Introduction

This is the final list I've come up with after some attempts at making a no-quest midrange hunter that doesn't fall short. I have crafted this list having an aggressive approach in mind so that it can beat quest decks.

Update: rank 3

Card explanation

Because I have an aggressive approach in mind I'm not playing cards like Rat Pack and Infested Wolf, as they do nothing when played nor are that much of a threat by themselves. Therefore, I think it's not worth it to run Dire Wolf Alpha, Tundra Rhino, Barnes or Nesting Roc.

Tracking: you can always find an answer/good minion to play thanks to this card. It also thins your deck and fills the curve at times. I'm running 2 copies because my hand is usually empty by turn 6 and I need to consistently draw Tracking in case I don't draw highmane or tiger.

Hunter's Mark: I feel like running 2 copies is absolutely necessary because of taunt warrior. It's quite useful in other matchups too, as hunter lacks good comeback mechanics and can be used to mantain board control at low cost.

Playing Golakka Crawler rather than Kindly Grandmother because I feel it causes a greater impact imo

Scavenging Hyena: has a lot of potential, and not every deck nowadays can deal with it easily.

Eaglehorn Bow: board control and damage, I think it's kind of good right now. I prefer to run 2 copies for consistency and because I can play it in case I don't draw Animal Companion, as I don't run any other 3 drops atm.

Unleash the Hounds: you can get value out of them by clearing the board, comboing with Scavenging Hyena and/or Hunter's Mark. I think having 2 copies is better right now, but you can cut 1 if you face too much control

Stranglethorn Tiger: the star of the deck. Allows to push a ton of damage. Playing this and highmane afterwards is just too much pressure. Other decks play Nesting Roc in the 5 mana slot, but I prefer to be aggressive and I cannot always guarantee to have 2 minions on the board as I'm not running Infested Wolf (already explained why)

Matchups and winrate

I have not recorded winrate simply because the meta isn't settled yet and therefore the win percentage would not be all that representative. As an estimation, this deck wins about 7/10 games.

General strategy:

If you go first: hard mulligan for one drops (only keep one though or you'll run out of steam)

If you go second: keep 2 drops and Animal Companion/Eaglehorn Bow depending on the matchup

Tracking: against aggro look for answers, against midrange/control look for Savannah Highmane, Stranglethorn Tiger or Houndmaster (removal too if you need to switch the state of the board/remove a threat that cannot be left up)

Adapt: if you need to race, do it in your big minions, attack first and then go for windfury/stealth. If you need to remove a huge threat, do it in your small minions and go for poison. In general, try to use whatever suits your board, your opponents board, and the read you have on your opponent's hand.

  • Quest rogue: hit face as much as you can. Only trade into the minions they can bounce back, and only if you do it with minions that have 2 or 1 attack (it's better to go face otherwise) and you know they might have bouncing tools in hand. Once they got the quest and they are going to use it next turn, not killing their minions is correct if the rogue player's hp is low enough, although trading to avoid 5/5's is usually recommended.

  • Quest warrior: try to be mana efficient at all times and only use Hunter's Mark in taunt minions that have +6 health (you can kill them with Kill Command/the board otherwise)

  • Elemental shaman: try to pressure them as much as you can. Watch out for AoE

  • Token/aggro druid: keep the board clear at all cost and only then you can go face. Don't worry about using Hunter's Mark on not-so-big minions

  • Midrange hunter: most of the time this turns into a race, and going first or second is a huge factor (playing Savannah Highmane first and so on). Most other midrange lists play Nesting Roc, so keep Hunter's Mark to kill it. Try to deny Houndmaster and Unleash the Hounds value from your opponent. If your opponent goes first and plays Alleycat, only play your Alleycat (if you have it) if you're convinced they don't have Scavenging Hyena in hand (can be guessed by seeing how many cards they kept in their mulligan)

  •  Purify priest: always keep Hunter's Mark and kill their "can't attack" minions as they play them. You might want to keep bow to do this, don't worry about facetanking damage.

Some archetypes/decks are missing here because I haven't played much against them and I don't feel confident writing a guide on how to approach them.
