Maexxna uses her 0 mana cost hero power to return two minions to your hand. It is easy to exploit this in order to create conditions that it make nearly impossible for you to lose.
Mulligan: You want cards like Voodoo Doctor, Ice Barrier, and card draw in your opening hand. Don't keep single target nukes, and don't keep extremely high mana cost cards. You'll draw into them as you need them.
Get maximum value out of your battlecry cards. Starting with Voodoo Doctor is great because you can heal yourself for 2 every turn for 1 mana. Be very careful when these cards build up in your hand, however, because you don't want to burn draws. Burning Alexstraza would make you lose. If you have a Coldlight Oracle and a Novice Engineer, ping your own novice to kill it to get rid of the card if your hand is nearly full. Make sure you play enough minions that some stay on the board and you can kill them, always trying to ensure that you don't burn any draws.
Save your Blizzards, Flamestrikes, and Frost Novas until Maexxna plays Sea Giants, Spectral Knights, or other big cards. You can heal almost indefinitely vs 1/2 haunted creepers, so don't waste your board clears on those. If possible, use your Blizzards and Flamestrikes first and save your Frost Novas for later turns, because you can play more spells on the same turn as Frost Nova due to its 3 mana cost.
Eventually, you'll draw into Alexstraza. There are two ways to finish the match. Play Ice Block and freeze the board, then next turn Alex Maexxna down to 15 health, and kill her on the subsequent turn with Fireballs, Frostbolts, or Ice Lances. More reliably, you can clear the board first withBlizzard/Flamestrikebefore you Alexstraza. It takes Maexxna a couple of turns to develop her board, so clearing the board will give you the time you need to finish her off as long as you have >10 health. Also, don't forget that you can Alexstraza yourself indefinitely to stay at 15 health if you need to wait for card draws.
The hardest part of this is not overdrawing, honestly.
I c(h)illed ;) her with this deck today in 5th try. But I changed Ice Block (x2) to Unstable Portal (x2) as I don't have it. I was lucky with getting a 3rd Voodoo from the first Portal and also Voodoos really early in the game. Later I got freeze her Sea Giant and Knights, set her on 15HP with Alex. The sencond portal made the win to me, as I got Malygos (+5 Spellpower) for 4 Mana less (making int 6) , braucht me 11 damage (fireball 6+5) for 4 mana and a second fireball with 6 damage killed her. During the game I was down to 6 HP but made it up to 18 again (getting damage all the way including 2 ice barriers). Definitly lucky win, but finally done :O
Worked first try didn't have blizzard so i used a mech + goblin blastmage to help clear her board.
If you don't have an Alexstrasza, or want to try without using it...check out or video using a Healadin deck.
Beat her first try with this. Thanks.
I used something similar to this to beat Heroic Maexxna. No Coldlight Oracle, I was playing 2x Elven Archer and 2x Earthen Ring Farseer instead.
I originally built the deck with Earthen Ring Farseer and Elven Archer as well, but I realized that you didn't need those cards to win and the important factors for winning this fight are when you draw Alexstraza and when you draw your board clears. So yeah, this version has excessive card draw in it, but that's because it makes it basically impossible to lose. I tested the deck over 15 times and couldn't lose even when Alexstraza was the bottom card. So that's why it is the way it is. Of course, you can switch up many cards and still have a high chance of winning.
nice! just used this to beat her :) i switched out 1 Coldlight Oracle and 1 Arcane Intellect for an Ironbeak Owl and 1 Polymorph i found it to much card draw had alot of them sit in my hand because i always had to many cards haha, and the extra CC was nice, but thanks!!
