Vlps went 17-6 over two heroic brawls with this deck for a 74% win rate.
Mulligan for cycle minions or other early minions and contest the early board. Ping your own Acolyte of Pain and get 2-3 cards off of it. Generally cycle first, then swing the board your way on a key turn.
Prepare for a big Flamewaker combo turn to clear the rest of the opponent board. It's ok to save up a few cards to "go off" with several cheap spells on the same turn you play it. Sorcerer's Apprentice can be played for tempo if need be or added to the combo turn depending on the situation. Mirror Image is great for protecting your assets to set up a devastating follow up turn.
Combo Freezing Potion with Ice Lance for burst plus 2 activations, or use it defensively to stall for time.
Barnes will give a useful 1/1, usually a cycle card but always good.
Be sure to check for potential lethal each turn. Turn 4 lethal is possible with this deck.
i cant get thru with Dragon Priest big hp minions.
I am sorry, but this decks WR not even close to 74%. My score with it is 0-7 at the moment. And all my matches were in casual.
You can argue with the skill statement, that its my bad or i am not skillful. But my current rank is 4 on wild so i really know how to play especially with mage. Never the less maybe its a rng thing.
I don't have arcane blast so I experimented with a couple subs. I'm having a lot of fun with Leeroy Jenkins andArcane Explosion. With all of the cheap AoE, freezing, and board control this deck can do, you can play Leeroy and sometimes keep him on board for 2 or even 3 turns.
Got a pirate warrior to use his face and heroic strike to kill Leeroy. Next turn, Frostbolt Ice Lance Ice Lance with Flamewaker out for lethal. Astonishing.
5 games already, 0 flamewalkers. If you don't draw it this deck is nothing special. Still waiting to check how good it is if the odds want to favour me drawing the flamewaker.
Amazing deck, and while it does struggle with dragon priest it is still good. I put in 2 babbling books instead of 1 freezing potion and bloodmage thalnos(don't have him yet) It still works good with turn 5 lethal every now and then. Best game was killing a pirate warrior on turn 5, the tables finally turned back on them!
No luck against Dragon Priest or Jade Druid.
I've tried Pirate Warrior and Aggro Shaman but could never make the rank 5 hurdle until this deck. Got from rank 7 to 5 with it. Thanks!
Easy loss if not draw Flamewaker.
Lost a mirror because of it. Turn 10 I had coin, freezing, both ice lances, roaring torch, fireball and apprentice.
20 dmg burst, 6 spells for another 12 from flamewaker, against his 28 health.
You can sub Cult Sorcerer or even Kobold Geomancer but in this deck the cycle can be as important as the spell damage.
any replacements for x2 arcane blasts?
I run double babbling book right now, and it does just fine. Usually you get a pretty cheap spell from them, and playing them during the "cycling" phase isn't too slow either.
Also, forbidden flame can replace these as well so it doesn't mess up your Barnes too much.
Leeroy Jenkins and Arcane Explosion. Explosion helps you beat up on pirates and can activate Flamewaker. Leeroy is always good in an aggro deck.
Or you could run Malygos and hope he gets pulled by Barnes for the memes.
This deck makes pirate warrior suffer! I've only played a few games but I'm already having a blast with this deck.
As "slow" as azure drake may be, I believe Antonidas is a good replacement for one of the acolytes. I have had great success with arcane explosion in replacement for one of the loot hoarders, it helps with aggro flood decks. Leeroy Jenkins is also suitable here.
amazing deck, just used Freezing Potion twice on face to kill finja, and then I won anyway, Barnes so strong .
VLPS was using a version with Azure Drake instead of Barnes but apparently felt it was a bit too slow for aggro.
The first 2-4 turns, you are just trying to stick a Mana Worm and clear the board with Arcane Blast, Missiles, Frostbolt/Forgotten Torch & Fireball. You want to hold onto cheap spells as much as you can. With Barnes you can pull a flamewaker, a Sorcerers Apprentice to reduce your spells, or card draw w/ the rest of your minions: Bloodmage, Loot Hoarder or Acolyte. Then prepare for a large Flamewaker turn with Sorcerers Apprentice around turns 6-8, you can go off with a Freezing Potion, Ice Lance, etc for super cheap.
You just play to the fact you can draw 4 - 3 dmg spells with Frostbolts and Forgotten Torches that then you have up to 4 - 6 dmg spells with Fireball and Roaring Torches. I've had to play a Freezing Potion to stop a Pirate Warrior weapon damage just so I could play to my outs and I top decked a Fireball for the win.
I hope you enjoy this deck, it's been good to me.
Do you keep Barnes, Arcane Intellect or Apprentice in your opening hand?
