The patch is here and Small Time Buccaneer is nerfed. So what's the state of Pirate Warrior? Obviously the early game is far worse than before, and that's the weakness of the deck now, it's much harder to get good draws early, but that leaves room for some stronger cards later like Naga Corsair and Southsea Captain, so even though you no longer have a god tier 1 drop the deck is still very viable.
But who am I to talk all big and mighty? I might not be an amazing player, but ever since beta I've mained Warrior, with two small tournament wins playing mostly Control Warrior. So I've played every Warrior archetype there has been, during every patch. So trust me when I say Pirate Warrior is NOT dead, and will probably continue to sit among the most played classes.
Mulligan is very similar to before, you just have a bigger focus on getting 1 or 2 drops like Southsea Deckhand, N'Zoth's First Mate, Sir Finley Mrrgglton, Bloodsail Raider and Fiery War Axe. Also keeping a Dread Corsair with a Fiery War Axe is a really strong start, especially with the coin.
Edit: Hobart Grapplehammer is probably a good card to run since the buffs he gives are very strong and synergise very well with the deck, and would help a bit with the early game. I just don't have the card, because I don't want to craft a non-golden version (I have almost every Warrior card in gold) and therefore don't play it myself. It is definitely not needed for the deck to work, but if I had it I would replace it with a Naga Corsair or Mortal Strike
Post KOTFT Edit: As much as I hate the deck at this point, it's probably still viable. Replaced Sir Finley Mrrgglton with a second Southsea Captain, but you could put in Hobart Grapplehammer, Acherus Veteran, Bloodsail Corsair or almost anything else. It's almost unchanged, and it's as braindead as always. (Actually even more braindead, since you don't get to choose a new hero power). Looking forward to next year when the cards rotating out hopefully kill pirate warrior once and for all.
Well its boring archetype, but climb is boring always.
This deck is really still working - if You have great stard hand, is almost impossible lost game, because its over before turn 6 and Reno Jackson. After next patch, when Reno will be wild, ohooo, this archetype will be much more valuable
I guess, another nerf on way...
you don't even know what will be in the next Expansion lol
Im 100% sure that there will be some new card(s) to replace Reno.
I doubt the devs will let the decks with no duplicates die so easily...
So stupid to promote this cancer!!! Are you serious? "is still strong?" ????????????????????? if you have some self-respect, delete this cancer!
Why the hell are you on a netdecking website?
shocker!! the best deck in the game is still strong???? i cant believe it!!
Sure. Not if you have a life though. Farthest I was able to do was Innkeeper (rank 1) with 2 stars left until legend.
Note: That was not with Pirate Warrior, that was with Combo Druid and Patron Warrior. Highest I've gotten sense the release of Gadgetzan is rank 4, but that's because I haven't been enjoying Hearthstone lately. You could probably do it with this list or a list similar.
Been playing this deck since i picked Patches from a pack last week...
Feels a bit like a Zergling rush. Hope for a good hand and then blow out as much dmg as possible in the first turns.
it works pretty well, but it's not why i play Hearthstone. It's pretty boring, most of the time it's just "in ya face", no hard decicions to make...
Still hoping for Control Warrior becoming great again. Won't craft Kazakus for a few weeks
ez game ez life
Awesome deck. 18 to 10 in 1.5 hours
The nerf has failed. As has been pointed out, the decline of Shaman has only led to a marked increase of plunder on the high seas in season 36. Few have the massive resources required to assemble a Reno-based counter and that window is closing quickly. In contrast, this deck only loses Sir Finley which is easily replaced. Short of strong anti-aggro tools in the expansion, pirates will rule the high seas for some time.
Replaced 2x Naga Corsair with Hobart Grapplehammer and Captain Greenskin
replacement for patches... Kappa
Stonetusk boars.... Kappa
There really isn't one. Patches gives you a huge tempo swing and also allows you to thin your deck.
I have to say the version running 2 x Bash is actually the better one
Wich one?
I though it helped mainly to beat mirror matches. Is it useful is other match-up ?
sure, 2 bash and 2 mortal strikes help a lot in druid match up for example since you can better ignore or get through the taunts.
edit: it is also running ooze to win the mirror match up
