INTRODUCTION
Hello fellow Hearthstone players! My name is Jonny and i go by the name "Gamer" in game, I'm from England and I've been playing for a few years casually.
The deck has made front page overnight! A massive response from the community, Thank you all!
Since the nerf on Small-Time Buccaneer and Spirit Claws this deck's winrate has increased greatly!!
The deck made the "Top decks list" :) - http://www.hearthpwn.com/news/2294-the-best-standard-decks-to-play-after-the
Winrate + Matchup's
Welcome to my Priest deck list that i've been having some success with on the standard ladder, When i created it i had the current violent meta in mind, and have built the list to withstand the early aggression you get from the likes of shaman's and warriors. But without sacrificing late game potential.
GENERAL STRATEGY
You're generally looking to get control of the board using your high stat minions such as Drakonid Operative to build up enough of a force until you can manage to find way to lethal, either through a surprise Inner Firecombo or just purely through minions out-valuing your opponent
GENERAL MULLIGAN
Keep the cards stated first. the condition cards after the -----> are to be kept if you already have the card stated first.
Northshire Cleric----->Kabal TalonpriestPower Word: Shield
Twilight Whelp----->Twilight GuardianDrakonid OperativeAzure Drake
Wyrmrest Agent----->Twilight GuardianDrakonid OperativeAzure Drake
CLASS SPECIFIC MATCH UP
DRUID (EXPECTING JADE)
You should expect to win this match quite easily just through pure pressure, Druid's struggle to deal with the threats like Drakonid Operative since they need to use a lot of resources to deal with it. Just keep the pressure on, Use cards like Blackwing Corruptor to kill minions and get board control.
Be careful of the opponent getting too much value from Fandral Staghelm and Brann Bronzebeard. Try to keep removal for them
HUNTER
No longer exists in hearthstone :D
Mass dispel on cards like Savannah Highmane and Rat Pack
MAGE (EXPECTING RENO)
The key to winning this match up is decided on value. Using cards like Drakonid Operative and Netherspite Historian in conjunction with Brann Bronzebeard can generate you some great end-game tools. Finding Alexstrasza and using it after the opponent uses Reno Jackson can really help too
You might just surprise your opponent if you can find a Ysera or a Malygos and make it stick one turn. Followed up by Inner Fire
NOTE: Since the patch. There has been an increase in Tempo mage on the ladder.
PALADIN
I've not seen many on the ladder. I'll update when i have more data
PRIEST
Value match, Try to determine weather it's a Reno priest or a Dragon priest and play accordingly. Look for massive value with Brann Bronzebeard Netherspite Historian and Drakonid Operative to find threats
ROGUE
If Miracle Rogue, it's the worst match up. You need to play everything on curve and get a little lucky with the discover from Drakonid Operative I've won a couple of games by getting double discover. and finding Cold Blood+Conceal
The water rogue is a little different. Try to mulligan for Dragonfire Potion and take out Finja, the Flying Star as soon as he drops it.
Deal with aggro Rogue the same as Pirate warrior. Just constantly fight for board. You are favored as long as you can survive.
SHAMAN
I've found that this match up usually comes down to a race for early board control. If you can manage to win the early game using cards like Twilight WhelpWyrmrest AgentPotion of Madness then you're usually in a good position to win the game.
NOTE: Since the nerf of Spirit claws aggro shaman has all but died out. Expect Jade. Be the aggressor.
WARLOCK
Against Reno. Mulligan for Shadow Word: Death to deal with the turn 4 Mountain Giant Get as much value from Brann BronzebeardDrakonid Operative and Netherspite Historian as possible. When using Drakonid Operative You're looking for Lord Jaraxxus which can be a great way to destroy a warlock at his own game :D
Against Zoo. Fight for board control. You are slightly favored so long as you can hold off the onslaught of cheap minions. try to clear the enemy board every turn to avoid Power Overwhelming out valuing your big taunts.
WARRIOR (EXPECT PIRATE)
Everything relies on early game. You need to keep pirate's off the board to stop any sort of Pirate synergy's happening.
Pirate warrior uses no removal. so getting your big taunt's on the board is Imperative!
Mulligan hard for Twilight WhelpPotion of MadnessWyrmrest AgentNorthshire Cleric Also consider keeping Twlight guardian as an activator
NOTE: Since the patch. Potion of Madness now destroy's pirate's early game. Woo!
CHANGE NOTES
With the violent meta finally calming down i've made a few changes.
+2 Dragonfire potion to deal with Finja + murlocs
- Potion of madness - Inner fire. These cards no longer hold enough value after the nerf.
+ Ragnaros + Argus + Book wyrm
Thank you to kiwiinbacon for another awesome showcase! :)
Legit question here. What are good replacements for the Blackwing Corruptor x2? I don't have that wing of the expansion and I figured I might as well wait for the rotation so I can craft it for 80 dust instead. I replaced one for Deathwing and it works decently as an activator, board clear, and possible win condition, but often times I find myself not being able to deal with damaging minions that I desperately need to remove without hard removal (like the SW Pain and SW Death
Deathwing is literally the only substitute that comes close to what the Blackwing Corruptor offers in my eyes. I usually find myself replacing the second Blackwing Corruptor with some tech choice, and it usually doesn't work out for me.
Guys why inner fire. Can someone explain me ?
Edit: The decklist not update yet ?
I'm playing a deck similar to this (I had to swap out a Blackwing Corruptor for a Deathwing and some tech choice that I forgot and switch often), and Inner Fire can sometimes be a great win condition. A lot of players never expect it, especially at the rank 15-10 range (im rank 11 currently) because that range is filled with uncreative net decks
To start, you have the Brann Bronzebeard + Kabal Talonpriest combo to help you out.
Another decent combo is getting something like discovering a Ysera or Malygos from Netherspite Historian. Ysera will be a top priority for your opponents to remove almost everytime, but some may be confused if you pull out a Malygos out of nowhere. Inner Fire those, boom 12/12 minion with benefits.
It works fairly well with Twilight Drake as well, but generally every single minion in the deck will benefit from Inner FireIt can help you squeeze out that extra needed damage. I wouldn't take two though since this deck by no means revolves around boosting the attack of your minions. It revolves around dragons.
This deck is my favorite to play, ty for the list & guide god speed
Sitting at rank 9, running into quite literally nearly 50% other dragon priest decks right now... anyone have some creative ideas on how to match up better against similar decks? A card or two to throw in that might be able to turn the tide in a control vs. control matchup?
Agreed. Makes a lot of sense.
In the mirror its important to remember how annoying it is for this deck to deal with 4 attack minions. Doing Brann + Netherspite/Operative gives you a ton of value and also gives you a better shot at Ysera or Malygos which are super difficult for the opponent to deal with.
I've actually removed the Defender of Argus and swapped for Ysera, because I was running into so many more mirrors than aggros, and it's doing quite well. I think that's just a small meta-based tweak that may need to change if the matchup breakdown shifts - just hit rank 5, we'll see how it goes from here.
Regardless - powerful deck. I love how it has a legitimate chance against any other deck type you encounter.
Crappy deck for naabs @ lvl10
I would remove one dragon potion and add 1 nova
I only have one Dragonfire Potion so I replaced it with a Mass Dispel and it seems to work quite well. Deals with that pesky Finja, the Flying Star and is a card cycle, while Holy Nova does not. Just food for thought.
How do you prepare to deal with druid of the claw or Azure? I feel I've only got luck getting jade lightning or swipe from Dragon OP instead of actually having a solid way to deal with them
still my favorite dragon priest deck without reno :)
here is 2 of my gameplay vs 2 kind of rogues, well maybe rogue is meta right now lol
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBe7ELz9-Cs&feature=youtu.be
I feel like 2x Dragonfire Potion is too clunky. What about swapping one for a Mass Dispel? Deals with finja and miracle rogues/vancleefs pretty well.
What about +1 Darkshire Alchemist and -1 Kabal Talonpriest?
Gz on Making it to the "Top Decks List"
Best Replacements for both Dragonfire Potion? Im currently going with 1Holy Nova and 1 Entomb
Edit: Removed Entomb for Ysera and 1 Wyrmrest Agent for Dirty Rat, because it doesnt rely on dragon activator and destroys some good combos. Just make sure you think about the worst possible outcome and got an answer to that.
Increased my Winrate against RenoLock and Mage a lot and also helps when it goes real late vs JadeShamans.
Currently like 25/10 with the Deck or something like that
Congrats on the front page again : 'The Best Standard Decks' 😎
Btw, [card]Emperor Thaurissan[/card] is my new toy, it gives me a lot of fun and let me go for cheaper Dragonfire 🙆♂️🙆♂️
Brann becomes more useful, too 😎😎
Silence is still in my deck, from an earlier version of this deck 😜😍😇
Because lots of Twilight Drake came from Warlock, Priest and Reno decks ☺️😁😃
Also works on Flametongue , Doomsayer or Brann etc. 😃😃
I agree, silence is just so good. Still running the previous version of this deck but still doing good at the moment.
Apparently as soon as i change to this deck, all my previous jade druid enemies become rogues... Fuck matchmaking.
