This deck is almost completely minions to get maximum value from the hand buffs. I chose cards based primarily on card text, as the bodies will inevitably become large throughout the game; No need to worry about that. There is only Acolyte of Pain here for card draw, but if you make a point of buffing them at least once or twice you can get two draws each at least in most cases.
One thing i really like about this paladin deck is it can potentially manipulate stats of enemy minions just as much as it does your own hand. Eadric the Pure is a perfect card for this deck, and meta, and i am finally enjoying it's value.
This deck is expensive if you don't have all the cards, but it's just as fun (or more)! This deck has served me well so far against decks like pirate warrior, dragon priest and jade druid, but i don't have nearly enough games played to tell you to take my word for it. So try it yourself!
I am of course interested in any feedback or thoughts you may have, and will gladly answer any questions as well.
Mulligan
Note: On turn 1, consider not playing Smuggler's Run or Grimestreet Outfitter immediately. You should try and play it safe when you can and use your hero power until turn 3 or so, then you will have drawn some more minions to get the most value. Obviously if you are getting pressured early this will not be an option.
Card Breakdown
Smuggler's Run | This is the only spell in the deck, two copies that is. I serves one purpose, to buff as many minions as possible. You CAN play this early, but i prefer to wait and draw a few more cards usually. |
Grimestreet Outfitter | This is Smuggler's Run as a battlecry on a 1/1 body. What's great about this is it is a very powerful effect, and yet easily combined with Brann. |
Aldor Peacekeeper | The meta is pretty aggressive, and also Jade Golems. Use this to neutralize threats when required. You may decide to discover more copies with a Scarab. |
Wickerflame Burnbristle | This is the heart of the deck in my opinion. Divine taunt is exactly what we need, AND it heals you. I crafted it just for this deck. |
Grimestreet Enforcer | Although it can appear to be a little slow, the body is decent and the effect can continue until they deal with it. This is a high priority target for your opponent. |
Eadric the Pure | I remember when this card seemed so underwhelming. It has a great effect but there really wasn't such a need for this card. Until now. This is your ultimate test! In addition to nullifying a ton of damage, the body is excellent for this hand buff business. |
Grimestreet Protector | This is a really cool card and i like it a lot. The divine shields give free trades and keep them up longer. |
Ragnaros, Lightlord | Ragnaros is a healing machine. Usually you will save this for a while until you really need to start healing up, by which time it will be huge. |
Tirion Fordring | A class paladin staple, however it's also a classic and highly anticipated hard-removal target. It can take the heat off of some of your other big dudes, though. |
Acidic Swamp Ooze | As this is a pretty weapon-heavy meta right now having an ooze seems mandatory. |
Grimestreet Informant | I like how this card enables us to choose something relevant to the match, and that it could be any class card. As this deck doesn't really run removal spells, this could be a cheap way to find them, and a cheap minion to buff. |
Jeweled Scarab | This is a key card here because there are many fantastic 3-cost cards to choose from. Like a lot. Ideally you will pick up additional Wickerflames, but you can also snag Brann or Sergeant Sally |
Acolyte of Pain | A great card-draw engine that increases in reliability with each buff. You may want to play one early to start filling your hand. |
Brann Bronzebeard | Clearly in it for battlecries, but the body buffs well. |
Earthen Ring Farseer | Has always been a valuable healing tool and i chose to play this because it can also target your minions if you would prefer to keep them alive. |
Cyclopian Horror | Many decks lately have been playing several minions. This can be a handy answer to some faster decks that rush you with small minions, especially with more stats. |
Second-Rate Bruiser | This card fits well because it is nice against aggro decks, and also can just be insane if it costs 3 mana with +2/+2 or more. |
Fight Promoter | I really like this card to fit some nice draw into a single slot. The condition is very easily met in this deck, and will often trigger itself. |
Soggoth the Slitherer | I've always loved this card, but it didn't get too much use. Now with being able to buff it by targeting it indirectly, this will be that card that absolutely frustrates your opponent. |
I'm going to give this deck a go I crafted Eadric to try it out. I made a deck last season very similar but I could never get the nerve to craft Eadric. But even without Eadric it played really well. I too ran Soggoth and even Dirty Rats. But I'm thinking you are on to something here. Paladin has always been my "go to" class and I want Goon cards to rise up in the meta. A lot of potential here. And you are right, from what I learned last season, as long as you can SURVIVE, it usually snowballs into a victory against any deck!
I am also interested in seeing some goons throw some punches around in this meta. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, let me know how it goes!
Taking a quick break just played 2 games in casual so far and both crazy wins. It def seems to play well on curve! Game 1 was Pirate Warrior, they conceded turn 5 after Wickerflame and Mistress of Mixtures cleared some pirates and a Frothing, I dropped an Enforcer and Instawin!
Game 2 was a Reno Priest and this game almost went into fatigue and I thought I was gonna lose in all honesty. He Branned a Dark Operative and stole a Don Hon Cho and Eadric from my deck. After a long stale mate my board was just too much for the Priest. My Ragnoros Lightlord came down as a 15/15! That's when he played Eadric. But the big sticky minions were too much, even after Holy Nova/Excavated/ Dragon Potion!
GOONS the new Meta! Make Pali Great Again Kappa
That sounds epic man, glad you are enjoying it! I have a lot of fun playing this and dropping huge powerful minions repeatedly =D Also Eadric the Pure is a boss.
Played a few ranked games last night as well. Won all 3 games, Pirate Warrior and Reno Mage both destroyed. I see you changed the list up a bit. I'll stick with the one for yesterday for now and play some more ranked games and see how it goes. :3
In a couple games I was thinking a Fight Promoter may be a good idea, esp with Brann in the deck.
Will try today, I have a Paladin domination quest pending. I don't have Don, wicked, and Soggoth (I can craft them but I don't want to) any possible replacements?
For don you could sub in a second Grimestreet Smuggler. For wickerflame and soggoth, you can remove those instead of the 2nd bruiser and tirion for the two mistress of mixtures.
