A Little About Me
I am a 19x Legend Player with 3x Top 100 finishes who goes by the battletag WingsOfWax or WingsOfWaxIII on other social media (Facebook, Twitter, Twitch, and YouTube). I have over 15+ Years of Magic: The Gathering Experience, but as of the release of Hearthstone: Beta been converted to this new and exciting card game.
Over the past year, I have been creating videos, articles, and casting live streams to help educate newer players about Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. As of right now, I am mostly known in the Hearthpwn.com community for creating a Naxxramas + 2,000 Dust Budget Guide 11 Deck series as well as putting Burst Rogue back into fruition.
These days I am working full time, go to school, and still create Hearthstone content whenever I find my schedule allows it. I love educating all types of players whether new or veterans about becoming a better strategy card gamer. I am creating this guide (and others) to help educate and grow the Hearthstone Community even further.
Introduction to my YouTube Channel:
Lets Begin:
To start us off, this is not a new idea of any kind. Reno Mage has been around for quite a while now and this is only here to inspire players to try it on there own. Reno Mage is in a great spot in the Meta since it has solid answers to everything and enough card advantage to out-do your opponent.
Why this version over the more Antonidas ones?
The Antonidas decks feel more like a Combo/Control deck, which is great versus opposing Control decks. I found myself losing more often than not to the Aggro decks because there were more dead cards to help trigger the Antonidas. After some tuning, I came up with a more controlling build that I liked and started seeing stronger results.
Top 100 Proof - Finished between 80-85 at the end.
Deck Stats:
Deck Variations:
The list proposed above is more suited for combating Aggro Decks. Earlier in the day I was running a more Anti-Control version that still had a solid Aggro matchup. Here is the more Anti-Control version I ran.
Anti-Control Version
The biggest tech choice was Big Game Hunter. I was using it to kill Alexstrasza, Mountain Giant, Flamewreath Faceless, Jade Golems, etc. I started running into more Aggro decks and decided I needed to cut the BGH for Mistress of Mixtures.
The next cut I made was Ethereal Conjurer. It is a great card in the Control matchups, but is extremely weak to the Aggro. Typically your Aggro opponents can just ignore it or clean it up easily with a 3 powered weapon. The next viable option in my opinion was Refreshment Vendor. It was a body that could deal with the early to mid game minions and restores much needed health versus Aggro.
Mulligans:
Versus Aggro - Arcane Blast, Babbling Book, Mistress of Mixtures, Acidic Swamp Ooze, Dirty Rat, Doomsayer, Frostbolt, Kabal Courier, Volcanic Potion, Kazakus, and Reno Jackson. Also consider keeping Polymorph versus suspected Flamewreathed Faceless decks.
Versus Control - Babbling Book, Mistress of Mixtures, Acidic Swamp Ooze, Dirty Rat, Doomsayer, Kabal Courier, Brann Bronzebeard, Kazakus, and Cabalist Tome.
Matchup Tips:
Versus Jade Shaman - You are in it for the long-haul of fatiguing your opponent. Be sure to prioritize your removal spells weakest first to strongest last. If you can't kill the Mana Tide Totem with a Frostbolt, Forgotten Torch, Arcane Blast or AOE try not to fret too much about it. I have won many games where my opponent has drawn 8+ cards from Mana Tide Totems. Your life total can be relatively low since they only runJade Lightnings for burn so be sure to prioritize killing the strongest minions on board. Most of the games won are by setting up a turn to safely play a Medivh, the Guardian and ride him to victory.
Versus Pirate Decks - Stem the bleeding as quickly as possible. Make sure your concern is about killing minions on board rather than drawing cards or developing board when given the option. If you get to 6 mana with a Reno and your at or around 15 health, more than likely you should cast it. Pirate decks tend to run a lot of burn spells and can easily kill you from 15 health with only one or two minions on board.
Versus Control Decks - You want to assemble combos as quickly as possible or just keep playing value cards. Try to save Reno for after your opponent Alex's you. Don't be afraid to burn weak cards (Volcanic Potion, Flamestrike, Arcane Blast, etc) in your hand to make room for Cabalist Tomes or Kazakus/Demon Potions.
Kazakus Potions to Seek:
This is a rough guide to figuring out your potion choices.
Versus Priate Decks - Deal X Damage to All>Transform All Minions (10mana only)>Gain X Armor>Deal X Damage>Summon X Friendly Minions that Died>Summon X/X Minion
Versus Jade Decks - Transform All Minions (10mana only)>Deal X Damage to All>Summon X Friendly Minions that Died>Deal X Damage>Summon X/X Minion
Versus Control Decks - Transform All Minions (10mana only)>Deal X Damage to All>Summon X Friendly Minions that Died>Deal X Damage>Summon X/X Minion>Random Demons to Hand> Gain X Armor

Epic High and Low for Top 100:
Here's to hoping this deck/guide is in some way beneficial to your Grinding Experience! The deck has performed extremely well for me and won games I thought were not possible to do so.

apparently innkeeper thought I had Alexstrasza and told me I could make this... weird. though after blowing up both nat pagles and princess huhuran i was able to make it.
QUESTION: In my first match up I had to fight a hand/buff warrior, it very quickly started dropping huge minions like Alley Armorsmith but with 12 health, and two of them, also some other pretty big stuff, What should my plan have been in this type of match? was it right to drag it down to fatigue using Kazakus Potion? or was there a better way to play that match?
In the end it came down to fatigue both of us with only one card in hand, his a useless 4/5 buffing minion, mine kazakus potion 10 mana summon an 8/8 and gain 10 armor. naturally I won.
Typically Midrange and Control matchups are better brought to fatigue as you dont have enough burn to race. Since ive played 0 buff warriors, i wouldnt worry about it and que back into your next shaman.
alright thanks. P.S. Kabal Courier is kinda insane, it just gave me Raza the Chained Feelsgoodman
Still don't have Arcane Blast.
Should i craft it despite it rotating out soon?
Or are there any good replacements?
Never crafted him as he should be rotating out at some point and i still had many good classic and newer set cards left to craft, but i never stopped considering crafting one because it shows up in all mage decks.
Waste of dust or still worth crafting for brawls?
It's the only real answer to Small-Time Buccaneer other than Frostbolt. So I believe it's worth it.
12400 dust. And i apparently have all the cards for it. *Goes on innkeeper*
Really good deck dude, thanks for sharing!
Is it worth it to craft Antonidas for this deck ? I mean, he is not on the decklist but on ranks 18-15 I'm facing a lot of slower decks (like priest, druid, warlock...), so I was thinking about playing an Antonidas version until I start to face a lot of shaman and then switch to this list. Or do u think this list is already good enough to face slower decks ? (last season I had some trouble playing Reno Mage, but I didn't have Alexstraza back then. So now I'm just curious about the non-shaman matchups).
67% of Waxes games were vs Shaman. That's insane.
This deck is pretty good, i had a good climb with it almost to rank 8, but suddenly i started facing jade druids instead of shamans and warriors... this deck is basically an auto concede against jade druid, your hands are way too heavy to play most of the time and even if you alextraza them, they will double feral rage and you will not have enough burn, another problem really is keeping their board clear while also putting on pressure which is basically impossible if they start getting jades 4/4+ for a few mana while your removal costs relatively too much to remove them. Also fatigue is not an option against jade druid so yeah.. it is like the old freeze mage vs control warrior matchup, where freeze mage had like a 5% chance to win, only tho that this reno mage has like a 0.1% chance to win vs jade druid...
So yeah overall the deck is pretty good and does it's job vs everything (various aggro pirate decks, rogue, mirros, renolock) except jade druid, which is an autoconcede.
Yeah if The Trinity Series taught me one thing , it's that Jade Druid is not by a long shot an auto-concede ...
really nice deck, i play "Wings Reno" and i have atm 12-2 :)
THX mate
i miss Medivh, any replacement? ( i dont have antonidas)
Ragnaros or Nefarian?
I've been trying my hand at reno mage through last season and into this one, but have only had limited success (rank 15, which I know this deck can go well past). I crafted Alex for the deck, but am only missing Thalnos.
Anyway, I like the list, but have a few questions, as I'm still relatively new to the Alex varient of Reno Mage.
I opened Inkmaster Solia about a month ago and have been dead set on using her. Unfortunately she's in almost 0 of these decks. I've been running her in mind and I don't see why she doesn't see any play? Is she worth putting in here somewhere?
Question 2: I crafted Alex and bought wing 1 of brm for Thaursan, but I'm a little fuzzy on when the optimal time to play them is? Obviously Alex can be used both for heals or for the opponents face, but usually I don't know what to do with her until it's too late. Should I just play her offensively when I can or prior to Kazakas? Obviously holding her isn't the best option. In regards to Thaursan is there a combo I should be holding out for, or should I just play him when I've got a big hand?
Solia is a bit win-more tempo oriented. You should have plenty of time casting your spells and a 5/5 body is mediocre.
I don't have Emp Thaurrisan in my list as there is no combo outside of Brann. Play as board controlling as you can, save as much of your life total as possible, try to setup Brann for value, and play around Acidic with your Medihv. In the control mirrors, you can be aggressive with Alex, but versus aggro I would try to save for heal.
Good deck...any replacements for Alexstrasza and Cabalist's Tome? I have yogg, archmage, maniac soulcaster, would any of them work? Or maybe ethereal conjurer?
Alex is a bit necessary. There's just nothing else that has as much versatility. Maybe Soggoth the Slitherer or Nefarian?
Cabalist Tome could be Ethereal Conjurer or Manic Soulcaster.
Have soggoth...ill use him for alex. If that does not work, im very willing to craft alex as she seems very necessary
alex is definetly a card worth craftin, she sees consisteent play since for ever
