Greetings Traveler - and welcome to my ''math'' Hunter guide,
We all know that Hunter is one of the weakest (if not the weakest) classes in MSG, so I wanted to try and come up with a Hunter deck that could do some sort of broken stuff (let's just be honest, there doesn't exist a good constructed deck that doesn't do something broken)
After a bit of thinking i came up with the idea of playing Tundra Rhino and Scavenging Hyena with some small beasts in one turn in order to deal enough damage to kill my opponent.
I figured that Emperor Thaurisan would help me play more beasts in the same turn as the Rhino, and would therefore allow me to Otk my opponents.
After playing a bit with the deck i quickly found out that whenever i drew Emperor and had a Rhino and a Hyena in my hand i pretty much just won, so I added a lot of card draw to the deck to get the combo more consistently.

EDIT: This deck is no longer playable in Standard because of the loss of Emperor Thaurissan. - Therefore I have made a Wild version of the deck for those of you that still want to play/try the deck! Tips:
1. Think during your opponents turn: When you have played Emperor Thaurisan and you're about to do the combo you won't have the time to calculate damage on your own turn because of the animation-time, so you have to do it during your opponents turn.
2. Don't be afraid to use combo-pieces against aggressive decks: Against aggressive decks you shouldn't be afraid to play your Hyena's with a Unleash or to play your Rhino with some small beasts to clear up their board, your main win-condition is to remove his board and then kill him or to just run him out of resources.
3. Trading during combo: While doing your combo you can gain a lot of bonus damage from attacking into your opponents minions instead of attacking their face with your small beasts because of Scavenging Hyena.
This is also why i chose to call the deck for ''math'' Hunter - you often need to calculate how you get the most damage out of your minions, sometimes it's correct to play Timber Wolf after having traded all your other beast, just so you will have minions to trade into. :)
4. Use Tracking whenever you have a mana leftover: You should usually just try to use the card as a draw mechanism that can get you closer to your Emperor and other good stuff.
5. Dire Wolf: Remember that you have Dire Wolf Alpha in your deck so how you place your minions can be VERY relevant.

''Tech'' Cards:
Hunters Mark: Tired of losing to Mr. 4-mana 7/7? Well this might be the card for you then - works well with Unleash the Hounds.
Flare: Seeing a lot of Reno Mage? Do they always have Ice Block? Well then.. :P
Deadly Shot: Good card against Big minions.
Doomsayer: Now you can kill your opponents turn 1 coin Totem Golem - Yay!
Coldlight Oracle: While this card is very bad against Aggressive decks it's incredible against Control - It also has Curator synergy.

Let me know what you think about the deck and if I should try changing something - and if you enjoyed it please leave a thumbs up! :)
The three problems with Alexstrasza are:
1. You often don't get far enough into the game for Alex to matter.
2. If you get as far as turn 9/10 you often won't have a hard time achieving lethal.
3. Because of the Hunter Hero power and stuff like Explosive Trap you're likely to damage your opponent over the course of the game making Alex less effective.
- The only Reno deck that can give this deck trouble is Reno Mage because of Ice Block. :)
Is it possible to play without [card]Emperor Thaurissan[/card]?
No - not really, Emperor Thaurisan is the card that lets this deck do broken combo's without him it's just a bad deck with a lot of card draw.
The max dmg you can do without Emperor is 20 and it require you to have a very specific hand. :)
Always mulligan for Thaurissan :)
Me SMOrc what is math ?
You could choose to tech in Hunters Mark or Deadly Shot. - I find that I usually don't need it though, because at the point where my opponents can play big taunts I can usually just kill them with the combo (trading the small beasts into the taunt and killing it - then hit them with 1 or 2 giant Hyena(s)) :)
It's honestly not all that good for ladder because of the amount of people playing Pirate Warrior (I mostly use this deck to counter Control in tournaments), but I did manage to hit rank 5 with it. :D
- If you just want to reach high ranks, you'd probably be better off playing Pirate Warrior, Face Shaman or Miracle Rogue... :P
THANK YOU! I've been looking for a good and fun hunter deck FOREVER! Hunter is my favorite class and I was sad that this expansion didnt make it better. But you did :) Thanks again!
But one thing, any replacements for curator?
Glad you like it. ^^
Curator is a bit hard to replace as it helps thin out your deck very quickly, I would probably either choose to replace it with card draw like Bloodmage Thalnos or just with a strong card like Animal Companion. :)
LOVE THIS IDEA....I JUST LOVE IT AND THE IDEA OF BUFFING YOUNG D-HAWKS for a crazy powerful OTK is amazing....I'm experimenting as we speak.
While the Hawks deal a lot of damage, the real Otk potential is in the Hyena's - 18/10's with Charge is no joke ;)
Really enjoying this deck, i felt like the acolytes werent doing much for me so I teched out for +1 Sir Finley and +1 Coldlight Oracle, which also helps curator. What do you typically mulligan for - all draw? I also changed the young dragonhawks for a Flare and and Hunter's Mark against tricky early minions.
The Flare is a very interesting edition, as one of the worst matchups for this deck is Reno Mages when they draw their Ice Block. ^^
How you mulligan usually depends on your matchup (you often times just want draw though), but here's a few of the most common ones:
Reno Decks: Draw, draw and more draw - if you draw enough cards you can usually kill them very quickly - if you run flare you should try and keep it against Reno Mages.
Face Warrior: You really want to have Explosive Traps and/or Unleash the hounds, if you're on the coin you should keep unleash+hyena.
Face Shaman: You also want the Explosive Traps and Unleash the hounds here, but it's important that you also get card draw.
Miracle Rogue: Lots of card draw, you want to do your combo before they de theirs.
Midrange Shaman: Just as much card draw as possible, you also keep Explosive Trap.
Control Warrior: Only card draw can be kept.
Dragon Priest: Just keep card draw.
Jade Druid: As much card draw as possible.
So if I understand what you are saying.... I should always keep card draw... Got it. :)
Holy crap! I was nervous early on; the board feels a little naked in the early game for Hunter, but once you get the mana to do the combo, it's light's out. As you say above, Warriors are trouble, but I even clobbered a Warrior who thought he had me down on the mat, but then, ka-blammo! Good lord!
Glad that you enjoyed the deck! :)
The early game feels weak because of the amount of understated minions we play in order to draw cards for the combo.
- The best feeling is when you play Explosive trap against a Warrior and their entire board dies. ;)
