Want to play Rogue and don't care for miracle? Try burgle Rogue! Not surprisingly the pirate package can make any janky Rogue deck work and while I could complain about the dominance of cards like Small Time Bucaneer and Patches the Pirate, they do make this seemingly forgotten and incredibly fun archetype work, so...whatever.
The thought process behind this deck is that it has enough gas and pressure to beat control decks and enough early game and tempo swing cards to beat aggro. While the burgle effects being mostly random hurts the consistency of this gameplan, the deck itself is still quite functional and effective the majority of the time.
Sporting a very respectable 55% win-rate against the meta, this unpolished gem has kept up with pirate warrior (4-5), obliterated jade druids (4-0) and even beat a reno priest in fatigue. While more testing and some obvious tweaking needs to be done, I figured I would spread the word about my findings and hopefully spice up the ladder a bit as we approach the next season.
Odd card choices:
- Edwin VanCleef: With the discounts from peddler and coins from pillager, you can get some massive edwins to close out games in a pinch. This might be one of the first cuts I make however as his performance has been underwhelming on occasion.
- Shado-Pan Rider: Great mid range tool to close out games and with cards like pillager and backstab in the deck it feels pretty strong.
- Lotus Assassin: I just wanted to test the card out and planned on making this the first cut initially, but it has exceeded my expectations. Much like shado-pan, it's just a really nice mid-range tool to close out games.
- Lotus Agents: They fit the theme of the deck, but seem a bit clunky. They can be a huge help in control match-ups, but consistency has been an issue. I'm keeping them in the deck at the moment until I can get a bit more data on these cards.
- Sylvanas: Good card and some deathrattle synergy to boot. Not crazy about it so far though as I tend to not need the effect. When I do need the effect though Sylvanas can carry.
Anyway, I will continue my write up when I get the opportunity, I hope you enjoy the deck and good luck on ladder!
I have been working on my own thief-Rogue deck for a while now. I just happened to come across this while reading one of your posts and noticed how similar our thought-process was on many cards. Your inclusion of Shado-Pan Rider in particular surprised me because they were in one of my versions of the deck and I didn't think anybody else would try them out.
I have to ask: How often do you feel you get Unearthed Raptor value? It's a card that I thought about including, but ended up going away from the deathrattle route.
I tried her, she worked sometimes and didn't work others. Basically she was great when I was losing and mediocre when I was winning. Additionally, this isn't a control deck; you just don't have the tools to hold her until she really shines. If turn six rolls around and she's your only real minion, even if your opponent doesn't have a board, you play her just to keep up tempo. This meant I was often just playing a 6-mana 5/5 that my opponent promptly removed. This is why I started to stray toward the Drakonid Crushers, because even if they are worse when you're losing they are worth more in an even fight and are utterly brutal when you're winning.
Any reason you don't have Shaku in the list? He's a wonder for the "play on curve" slot.
