Hello!
There are almost no priests playing something other than "Reno" (Razakus) in the ladder. So, for fans of the archetype, let me introduсe an old school control-priest. The deck is tested now, but the preliminary results are listed below.
This deck plays very well against aggro, which are popular at the start of the season, such as:
- token-shaman,
- mid-hunter,
- aggro-druid,
- pirate-warrior,
- aggro-paladin.
But if you meet tempo-rogue, you should be understand - the game will be lost. This words are true about Jade-druids too. But you can always add a Skulking Geist. Against other priests and control decks this one has a chance to win.
Next words are a previous guide. NOT ACTUAL NOW!
Replacements:
The deck has 4 slots on which I`m working. There are 1 copy of Entomb, Acidic Swamp Ooze, Dirty Rat, Priest of the Feast.
I`m thinking about replacement 1 copy of Entomb. 1 copy of Greater Healing Potion plays well vs aggro warrior and shaman. And I`ve done it because I faced aggro-decks. 5 match in a row I met only pirate-warrior =(
Why did I choose these cards?
At first, the deck is not meta-crusher. But if you want to play something interesting, unexpectable and competitive, you should try this one ;)
AOE:
Circle of Healing with Auchenai Soulpriest, Excavated Evil, Holy Nova, Dragonfire Potion are the AоE. I think, this set is the most powerful combination of priest`s AoE till meta become stable.
Win condition:
Elise Starseeker, Ragnaros the Firelord and combination of Auchenai Soulpriest and Flash Heal with Hero power are the win conditions in such meta.
Elise Starseeker helps you vs Reno-Priest, Control Warrior, Reno-Mage and Mid-Shaman.
Ragnaros the Firelord and combination of Auchenai Soulpriest and Flash Heal with Hero power can help you against Jade-decks and Reno-lock. They just don`t expect burst damage from your hand.
Other cards:
Kabal Talonpriest and Injured Blademaster work well with and without other cards. Of course, these minions can help you to control board and provide pressure on Jade-decks. It is not bad move to play Kabal Talonpriest without battlecry, when you must hurry against Jade Golems.
Justicar Trueheart, Sylvanas Windrunner and Priest of the Feast have powerful effects in the control-priest conception.
Acidic Swamp Ooze has essential battlecry vs aggro-decks and Jaraxxus.
Mulligan and Game plan:
This part of the guide will be improved. I am working on it. If you know, how to make section better, please leave your comment below or send me a PM. After all, your strategy can be better ;)
I. Against Druid try to catch these and similar combinations in your start hand.
The idea of this type of mulligan is a tempo-capture the table and support your minions to deal damage, control table and draw cards.
With coin:
- Acidic Swamp Ooze + Power Word: Shield + Shadow Word: Pain + Northshire Cleric;
- Northshire Cleric + Power Word: Shield + Injured Blademaster + Circle of Healing;
- Kabal Talonpriest + Kabal Talonpriest + Northshire Cleric + Shadow Word: Pain;
- Injured Blademaster + Circle of Healing + Shadow Word: Pain + Northshire Cleric;
- Kabal Talonpriest + Injured Blademaster + Circle of Healing + Northshire Cleric...
Without coin:
- Northshire Cleric + Power Word: Shield + Shadow Word: Pain;
- Northshire Cleric + Power Word: Shield + Kabal Talonpriest;
- Kabal Talonpriest + Power Word: Shield + Shadow Word: Pain;
- Acidic Swamp Ooze + Kabal Talonpriest + Shadow Word: Pain;
- Injured Blademaster + Circle of Healing + Northshire Cleric...
Try to exert maximum pressure. Сlean the board and play as you are tempo-deck. Ragnaros the Firelord and unexpectable damage from Auchenai Soulpriest`s combo win the game.
II. is writing...
Results and Proof:
- There is a control deck.
- This one is the average cost.
- Unfortunately, the deck has failure math-up vs Dragon-priest.
- Games vs Renolock and Jade-Druid are still not favorable matches.
- The deck is interesting and uniform, so control-priest requires skill to play well.
- You can beat 10 rank by this one exactly. But this is only the beginning ;)
Gawd, the Twilight Drakes on Ctrl-warlock are tough to deal with, i have to force him to actually attack with it until it gets into aoe-range ;D
Unfortunately, such Warlock`s tempo-move is always a Priest`s problem.
Didn't have Ysera so i put a dragonfire potion. Match with a Mid Shaman and 4 P-Warrior in a row a only lose 1 time so needs to be tested a bit more but seems pretty good.
I miss Justicar but I really want to try a deck like this. Should I try to replace her with another healing potion or something else? Any suggestion?
Hi!
Healing potion or Entomb could be taken.
Hey dude, this kind of deck is definitely my favourite to play. Perhaps end game Ysera could be added. Sorry to say but Dirty Rat doesn't belong in this deck mate, you probably want 2 entombs and may want to consider adding Cabal Shadow Priest. I feel like 5 board wipes is too many, Holy Nova probably could be dropped or Dragonfire. Excavated Evil is good because it fucks up your opponents draws. Maybe you could swap Swamp Ooze for a Harrison Jones? It adds card draw and you really want to hit Reaper with it. Just my two cents mate. Good luck in the cancer meta.
Btw people complaining this deck can't beat Jade Druid? No control/reno priest can. Dragon Priest can sometimes IF you can play on curve and druid doesn't get God draw
I'd agree that something late game would be nice but there are plenty of threats. Ysera like you said would be my first choice, but with the meta the way it is I kind of like it the way it is. I think I'm going to cut Dirty Rat, Excavated Evil and Dragonfire Potion but I'm not too sure what to put in their place. Probably a second Holy Nova, maybe some other minions but it's up in the air right now.
Hi!
It is good, but not as a control-shaman.
hi why dirty rat?
Hi, thank you for your question!
Because dirty rat sometimes good against unpleasant battlecry such as Reno, N`Zoth and Kazakus. And this one is a low-cost taunt.
I am thinking about replacement
OK vs Aggro/Jade shaman, aggrowarrior but no chance against jadedruid
I'm sorry, but you need to test this in higher ranks. At rank 10 and in the last few days of the season, your opponent will make a lot of misplays and you won't even realise; giving the deck a false image of reliability. I think the deck has promise, but you need to at least reach legend with it to get an accurate view of it.
You are right.
But Idea of this deck came at the end of last month. Besides, I had not time for persistent testing. There is just a preliminary results, as I said.
Great Deck, love it just the way it is. Upvoted
Its is great :)
There's no way this deck is better than Reno Dragon Priest, just a lower dust inferior version of it.
DAAAAMN!!!1111 ROASTED
Thx bro from rank 10 to rank 11......
pfff from 2 to 9 carl (but not because of this deck)
Oh my god... did you drop 1 rank after playing at new deck? What a disaster. Hope you will recover from this and eventually climb bac and reach rank 10 again.
