This deck is not mine, I'm just reporting the deck Kolento used to reach rank 1 Legend, all credits go to him!
Enjoy!
User giveahoot18 is reporting a recent change to this deck, -1 Defender of Argus +1 The Black Knight
Whats the point of azure drake if you only have 2 consecrates as spells?
Hammer of wrath is also a spell. But mainly they are for the card draw, 4/4 body and something to play on Turn 5.
Kolento made 2 more changes as of 8/1/14:
2x Sludge Belchers for 2x Knife Jugglers
1x Loatheb for 1x Azure Drake
I would play him when you feel like your opponent is going to drop an AoE, or perhaps to setup lethal for next turn to avoid removal spells.
loatheb might probably be the best card in the game. it's like silencing a player for 1 whole turn and is a 5/5 body to boot. just got a huge board? use loatheb to avoid board clear and deal huge damage with your savage roar next turn! rouge puts down auctioneer? play loatheb to prevent him from drawing his deck next turn! down to 15 health? play loatheb to buy extra time before a mage bursts you down!
Sunwalkers are irreplaceable, Kolento removed 2 Knife Jugglers for 2 Sludger Belchers on his updated deck, here: http://imgur.com/a/I44YC#7
With the new Naxx cards, I recommend replacing the 1x Guardian of Kings with 1x Loatheb. There's plenty of healing between Lay on Hands and Holy Light, the only way that won't be enough will be against Miracle, and Loatheb is as hard a counter as you can get for that. Loatheb's especially good in this deck, as it's pretty taunt heavy, and Loatheb forces your opponent to play into them, even outside of the Miracle matchup.
This deck crushes zoo with the board clear. This is a reliable deck against all decks except maybe token druid and hunter
How is this deck supposed to be played in comparison to Control?
... it is control
hey guys, with the recent cards added this week- do you think a change is needed for this deck?
like putting in an owl or maexna instead of TBK?
Amazing deck!! Took me from rank 7 to LEGEND!!!!!
Congratz! And did you use same exactly deck above or you make few changes? :o
Thx! Switched out Defender of Argus for The Black Knight (as the poster said) everything went smoothly after that.
Ah, I see.
Control, super conservative, go watch Kolento's past streams: http://www.twitch.tv/kolento/b/545044389
I have played this deck from r20 to r14. Rank 15 was so frustrating, between all the shamans rogues and mages. I just got to 14 and I'm still losing to mages, any thoughts?
Both strong ragnaros is a winning condition while black knight can get a lot of value destroying big taunts, sooo it's up to you
Ragnaros is a situational winning condition, it isn't mana efficient and we're not Amaz, so RNG will not always be favored. The best winning condition this deck can have is absolute board control in late game, that's when you go for face. If you have to rely on Rag to win, most likely you've failed to maintain board control. TBK is a better choice to craft because of his straightforward impact.
Got to rank 9*, using a slight variation of the deck:
- 2 knife jugglers, -black knight (swappable when fighting handlocks/druids)
+ acidic swamp ooze (from 16-12, i was fighting a lot of warriors, rogues, and shamans, good for their weapons)
+ironbreak owl (this is a tricky one, subbed it in because of gadgets, and warrior legendaries, overall pretty useful)
+ragnaros (won me so many games, though i wanted to break away from the rng randomness, but this is an exception)
*beware of coldllight+shadowstep rogues, this deck emphasizes late game - thus holding more cards.
edit* as writing this i got 9.
