Guide and  Gameplay: 4 games vs Renolock, Dragon Priest, Pirate Warrior and Jade Druid are below.

UPD. Replaced Forgotten Torch for Flamestrike. Too many Shamans.

I play Freeze Mage every Season, got nice results versus Midrange Shamans in November, win rate more than 70%. In December I tried to play too, but it was very hard to win Pirate Warrior, but there were good results versus other decks. Especially high win rate with Priests, Warlocks and Rogues. I started to think: what can improve my win rate versus Pirate Warriors? Bingo! Mirror Image! Warrior needs two turns to pass through them, and that is exactly what Freeze Mage seeks.

Mulligan.

First of all we should divide decks on types: agro or not. My default is: Warriors and Shamans are - Aggro decks, other are Midrange.

Vs Aggro decks we keep: Mirror Image, Doomsayer, Loot Hoarder, Novice Engineer and Frostbolt. Acolyte of Pain with a Coin. You can keep Arcane Intellect with a coin depends on other cards. But it is too slow as for me anyway.

Vs other decks: we need maximum draw, so keep just: Novice Engineer, Loot Hoarder, Acolyte of Pain and Arcane Intellect. We don’t need Doomsayer, because we want to use him with Frost Nova in later stage of the game.

Gameplay.

Warriors and Shamans. Do not save your damage for their face. Remove all threats as soon as possible. You need to exhaust his hand to win the game. Alexstrasza is often the key win condition in this Match up. If you are still alive on 9th turn, play Alex on own face and Pirate Warrior can’t find 15 damage more to finish you. Extremely good versus Pirate decks are Ice Barrier. Do not forget that Pirate Warrior has big problems with Doomsayer, but Shamans can remove him easier, so play him on 2nd turn or on 5th with Frost Nova.

Druids are not easy match up, because of Raven Idol and Feral Rage. Win rate is about 50%. Try to draw fast and not waste your damage on single targets, keep it for his face. Remove minions by Doomsayer + Frost Nova, Blizzard and Flamestrike.

Hunters are not hard for Freeze Mage today. So, draw and use mass removals to find fast lethal combo or Alexstrasza.

Mages are hard because most of them are Reno. If he can draw Ice Block and Reno Jackson both, we will lose the game. Tempo Mages are favorable. Play 2 Ice Barrier for 16 additional Health and it almost win. Just Goldfish or Pavelbooks can help them.

Paladins. If it is agro – see Warriors and Shamans, if Murloc or N’Zoth Paladin, then you should find OTK Combo with Emperor Thaurissan and Bloodmage Thalnos. It is more than 30 damage.

Priests. See the Paladin’s strategy. Remove threats until OTK Combo. Alex is good in this Match up, because Dragon Priest doesn’t have any good heal. If Reno Priest see Reno Warlock below.

Warlocks. If Zoo or Discard – just remove threats and go face, it is very easy match up. Same as RenoLock or Reno Priest. Remove minions, play Alex to force opponent to play Reno Jackson, and then play OTK combo.

Rogues are pretty good too. They have no heal and not enough burst damage to kill Freeze Mage until 6th turn. After 6th turn we often have enough Freeze spells to play for time and find our Lethal. Frost Nova + Doomsayer is hard to remove for Rogue.

Replacements.

We have just one question about replacement.

Alexstrasza can be replaced just by combo: Escape + Concede.

Bloodmage Thalnos can be replaced by Cult Sorcerer or Kobold Geomancer.

Combos of Freeze Mage.

Frost Nova + Doomsayer to clear the board.

Blizzard + Doomsayer to clear the board.

Frost Nova + Emperor Thaurissan is good chance to reduce cost of card by 2.

Tips.

If opponent plays Sylvanas Windrunner and you have empty board, play Doomsayer and kill Sylvanas to clear the board.

If you see that Mage plays a Secret from Babbling Book, you can check it with Doomsayer, what if it is Mirror Entity.
