Hi, I'm a casual player who plays a lot of Priest and Warrior decks, throwing dragons in for the funsies wherever possible. I've been having a lot of success with this Dragon Priest list on EU ladder and I wanted to share it.

Excellent matchups:

  • Aggro Shaman
  • Midrange Hunter
  • Tempo Mage
  • Malygos Druid
  • Control Warrior
  • Anyfin Paladin
  • Resurrect Priest

Okay matchups:

  • Midrange Shaman
  • Malygos Rogue
  • Beast Druid

Bad matchups:

  • Dragon Warrior
  • Secret Hunter

I've not seen any Freeze Mages in the last 50 or so games so I don't know for sure how that is favoured. I got stable at about Rank 5 at the end of last season so I wasn't able to take it to legend, but I intend to this season.

Mulligan:

Unconditional keeps: Northshire ClericTwilight WhelpWyrmrest AgentTwilight Guardian.

Conditional keeps: If you have Twilight Whelp or Wyrmrest Agent but no other dragons, keep Azure Drake or Book Wyrm. If you're against a Shaman, keep Shadow Word: Pain for the Trogg or Golem. If you're not against a Shaman or Hunter it should be safe to keep Netherspite Historian since they'll likely have a slower minion discharge.

Early Game:

Trade favourably with your opponents minions, use your hero power and Power Word: Shield to make your minions harder to remove. Play your dragons on curve and use your removal spells aggressively.

Mid Game:

Establish a board presence with huge tempo plays with Book Wyrm and Blackwing Corruptor. Anticipate what threats your opponent might be holding, ensure you keep an answer handy.

Late Game:

Once you have found Medivh, the Guardian, try and make a safe turn to play him on. There are a lot of very expensive AOE and removal spells in this deck, and by waiting until after Medivh to use them you also get a free minion. Both Medivh and Ysera can easily generate enough value to win you the late game against any deck, just be careful not to use the cheap Dream spells when you have Atiesh equipped.

Card choices, possible substitutions:

The first iteration of this deck had 2xShadow Word: Pain and 1xBook Wyrm. I was finding that I could never use the second Pain in some matchups, and I was not finding dragons for activators consistently enough so I make a substitution.

The deck that I took inspiration from had Brann Bronzebeard. I wasn't finding him to be very synergistic with the rest of the cards in the deck, the best synergy being Netherspite Historian. I ended up taking him out in favour of the Excavated Evil, which works wonders against the 3 health Shaman minions that don't die to Holy Nova. There's only one copy though, since this deck relies on having board control, so it's a last resort kinda card. It also works with Atiesh.

The Mind Control and Entombs are incredibly important for the late game. They are incredibly synergistic with Atiesh, and there's huge enjoyment to be had from crushing your opponent's soul by MC-ing their Grommash Hellscream or Ragnaros, Lightlord.

It might be possible to replace a Book Wyrm with a Cabal Shadow Priest, but you run the risk of diluting the deck with non-dragons, and only one of them kills a Thunder Bluff Valiant.
