Tyrande was just released after Dragon Priest recieved a couple new interesting cards from Kharazan ( and who can resist putting Ysera in a Tyrande deck? ) so I tried this out and it has pretty insane potential. Netherspite Historian is the new card that has the largest impact, capable of setting you up with multiple Ysera's and combos very well with Ysera's dream card: Dream: Return a minion to it's owner's hand. 0 mana cost.
Season's just starting so I haven't done much with this yet but I'll post results of prolonged usage.
Edit: Climbing steadily, at about the pace I would with tempo mage.
Great against aggro, shaman, zoo, warrior. Also solid vs Reno Lock.
Goes even with tempo mage and token druid.
Weak to Ramp Druid, maybe control warrior too
Try it out and post potential changes, would love to hear feed back.
Enjoy~ <3

Dragon priest used to be my favorite before the rotation format, but today the issue is that Standard Priest simply doesn't have anything "unfair" in their dragon lists, compared to the potential power of Resurrect Priest.
Dragon priest has always been a tempo-ish midrange deck that heavily relies on curving out each turn with powerful tempo plays. But without Velen's Chosen, Dark Cultist, Lightbomb etc. All this "unfair" tempo is gone and will heavily struggle with keeping up against opposing Shamans, Warriors etc.
I've been trying so hard in finding a working Dragon Priest list, but in standard, it is just not possible. IF you want to play Dragon Priest and crush, go to wild. Otherwise, kinda reserve yourselves to the Resurrect lists. :(
2 holy nova and 2 excavated evil is one too many.
holy nova is bad as it is only 2 damage.
Two Twilight Drake? Two Book Worm AND a SW: Pain? Yet no Twilight Whelp or Wyrmrest Agents?
Why is this on the front page when it's a slightly inferior version of the standard Dragon Priest?
At night I mess with experimental builds and share them, I tend to post my best working version again the next day.
I made my own dragon priest and posted it but no one gave mine a look :/ I realised that a dragon deck should have those cards you mentioned
Fun deck, too bad priest is terrible still and everyone else runs so much removal you'll never get a minion to stick.
-1 x Book Wyrm >> Juggles/Toad/Technician or some cheap card which fits :/ and can kill one or two minions against midrange (remember you have heals)
-1 x Shadow Madness >> Excavated Evil
-1 x Entomb >> Shadow Word: Death
They are all too costly especially when you are dying and need a desperate clear and by all means , Excavated Evil >>>> Shadow madness,
Don't worry about the mana curve it will work fine until stuff are 5 and below. And also Ysera doesn't do much, maybe leave the meme value and go for something else?
Yeah tonight's all experimentation, so I'll probably mess with excavated evil at some point as well. Already traded entombs out and dropped ysera for rag lol.
Actually just posted a pretty big set of changes based upon the addition of excavated evil. More control oriented dragon priest, seems like it might be stronger.
Typical Priest quite unfit for ranking up. Probably you'll have a better chance if you play it on high ranks where people (for some reason) like their controls more. Even then, you'll need more threats and more ways to clear the board. I'd assume that control/resurrect priest is better than this in the long run.
Also...what's wrong with people asking 'WHAT CAN I REPLACE X with?'. Chances are that if you can replace anything in a given list with something inferior, then something's wrong with the initial choice.
For sure, I don't think there's any question that Res priest is the dominant model atm, but I certainly think that it was time to open discussion on dragon priest again with the new cards. I bet by the time this thread is dead there will be a better dragon priest than my first version, for sure. :D
Sure, I am not criticizing your choice. Just being honest.
Dragon Priest is a working deck, but it's quite unstable. Checking for cards in hand in order to play your cards isn't a good way to fight for board control against a field that tries to slaughter you as fast as possible.
If you are still up to the challenge, I'd suggest that you walk the way of 2x Excavated Evil.
Yeah, I've actually made some drastic changes for experimentation sake, that include 2x excavated evil, I'll keep updating this until it's dead for the dragon priest lovers. xD
"Tyrande" clickbait has worked for you ;)
Could you please name ranks where you are successful with this deck?
My opinion about your type of Dragon Priest:
-It is Decent anti-aggro tool.
-It doesnt have enough threats. So any control and (?) midrange will crush it.
-No way to deal with 4 attack. 5 cards to deal with 3 attack (too many).
-This deck has better temp, than Contol Priest.
-But there are no board clearers. So once you lose board control - you are dead.
If you'll note that on one of the deck showcases above it was shown doing fine at rank 12, but it's not without it's weaknesses for sure. No part of my post suggested instant legend, that's just not a thing. I'm not even amazing at the game, I just enjoy playing and like creating decks with some combination of playability and aesthetic or theme. (Old magic player habit)
I would note though that when falling behind on board control you have tons of removal, 2 novas, and chillmaw, to wipe with.
I will say that when you get a bad hand it can be kinda crippling in a way, but the deck is kinda combo oriented so that's going to be a thing.
Sorry if this wasn't what you're looking for, perhaps you'd like to post suggestions on a workable dragon priest. c:
I did post however, a new version focused purely on tempo. Check it out. c:
