Updated for FIRST Wing of Karazan!!!

Hey, guys.

Today, I decided to put together and publish a priest deck that was brewing in my mind For a little while. It's definitely an off-beat deck, but with the early removal and buffs, it can generate some board presence and create some value from power plays. The first question I tried to answer when building this deck is, "how do I make something that can compete with aggro and other midrange decks that happen to go wide?" The big answer was Violet Teacher. From there, I tried to explore some of the cheaper priest spells that would work with this card.

Meanwhile, I took a look at removal and board control. Bloodmage Thalnos is key for cycling in the deck. Super strong with Holy Smite which can hit that crucial 3 damage mark, taking out a lot of early and mid-game threats. The dream would be getting these cards to boost Holy Nova. I put in two Shadow Word: Deaths and an Entomb for those big guys that you might not be able to trade up into.

The crux of the deck lies in the 4-drops , as well as a couple 3s, and the new Arcane Anomaly; Priest of the Feast and Shifting Shade are seen as relatively big threats in the deck. Opponents will look to remove these at any cost. Try to play those out and bait out removal, to pave the way for Violet Teacher. Giving her Divine Spirit is decent value. Makes her stickier, and can conversely lead into playing other threats which they might not be able to remove. Buffs allow you to trade up, and sometimes the opponent will either over-spend to remove her, or completely underestimate her.

Thoughtsteal was thrown in on a whim, but turned out to be actually half decent. Combined with Shifting Shade, you can possibly pull more spells (hopefully removal!) and synergies from other classes. A lot of what other people run seem to have more value than any priest cards. Plus, think of Thoughsteal like  Arcane Intellect. Token Yogg Druid has lots of activators, as well as Rogue, dragon warrior, and Shaman has many spells and cards that can help you go wide on the board.

Allright. If this deck shows any interest, we can talk about matchups and mulligans some more. I've made this deck without too much thought of the Karazan cards. In fact, I made this deck despite the Purify memes that have exploded as of late. Anyway, let me know what you guys think!

  • Made some swap outs--put in the Sunfury Protectors for early tempo and late game taunt
  • Some people have suggested that I go for Excavated Evil over Holy Nova. The former is a recovery mechanic, the latter a win-more card. Try either and tell me what works.
