You've activated my trap card! Hey there, I'm Shadow and this is my semi-competitive secret mage deck.  If you want to have a fun time in casual, or want to surprise and annoy your opponent in competitive, this deck is for you!

Reasons for cards:

  • Open the Waygate: This deck is all about value plays, this card here once completed gives you some great value and allows you to set up your secret interacting cards with each other without worry.
  • Babbling Book: If you don't have your Arcanologist in your hand, this can be a useful turn 2 play, or you can play your quest on turn 2 and play this turn 1 to develop an early board.
  • FrostboltSmall-Time Buccaneer getting you down? Here's your answer to that and any other dangerous turn 2-4 plays. Great at slowing your opponent down too.
  • Arcanologist: The most difficult part about running this deck is not having secrets when you need them. This allows you to play into curve with a secret or Kirin Tor Mage on turn 3, or grab a late game secret.
  • Kirin Tor Mage: A great turn 3 play that provides a great tempo boost. You can get out an early secret and a well stated minion at the same time.
  • Arcane Intellect: You'll often run low on cards with secret mage, this will keep you up on card count. It also happens to be an amazing piece of card draw.
  • Mana Bind: This is a wonderful secret that will aid you in the completion of your quest. It also provides you with a free spell that could come in handy later on.
  • Mirror Entity: Typically your opponent will play a weaker minion to counter this secret, none the less it's a tempo gain for you typically no matter what they do.
  • Counterspell: This can be a real life saver, just try to play it after The Coin if your opponent has it.
  • Spellbender: Similar to the above secret, except it can steal buffs! If buffadin becomes a thing (and I think it will), then this will be fairly useful.
  • Vaporize: A very dangerous secret, a great play when your opponent has little to no small minions.
  • Ethereal Arcanist: A powerful card for secret mage, try and play it on turn 4 after you've played a secret on the previous turn. You can also play it on turn 7 to guarantee the boost.
  • Kabal Chemist: If you're in a pinch a potion may help. Also works with your quest and is one of the few turn four plays you have.
  • Fireball: Use it to finish off your opponent or to control their board. An overall amazing spell.
  • Cabalist's Tome: This will give you a huge boost to your quest and will leave you with 3 typically useful spells.
  • Blizzard: Provides some board control and gives you more time if needed.
  • Flamestrike: Best board clear in the game, can single handily save you from defeat or let you win the game.
  • Avian Watcher: A strong taunt when played with a secret, comparable as a late game Wyrmrest Agent for secret mage.
  • Kabal Crystal Runner: With all the secrets you'll be playing, this will provide great value in its cost reduction effect.
  • Medivh, the Guardian: If you couldn't tell by my avatar I love Medivh. In a deck full of spells he can give you some great tempo plays, especially if you use Blizzard or Flamestrike. Just watch out for Acidic Swamp Ooze.

I can't wait to test the updated version of this deck this Thursday! I hope you're excited too. Once the deck has been played I may offer a lot more info on how to play it effectively, till then, have fun!
