Strategy

Mulligan Guide: You shouldn't worry too much about getting minions out right away because he will immediately kill anything that you play. Your main concern should be taking care of Lady Blaumeux, Thane Korth'azz, and Sir Zeliek as soon as possible or preparing to destroy his Runeblade. Shadow Word: Pain, Power Word: Glory, or Acidic Swamp Ooze are all good to start.

Baron Rivendare only has 14 Health to begin with and you would think he would be easy, but he's a little more challenging than expected. His deck is completely filled with removal and direct damage spells, but he does not have any additional minions. Once you destroy his weapons and minions he will not be able to defeat you, so you only need to take care of five cards. (Two Runeblade, Lady Blaumeux, Thane Korth'azz, and Sir Zeliek)

If he is able to cast Mark of the Horsemen it will definitely make defeating him more challenging. Don't hesitate to take out his entire board with Shadow Word: Horror, even at the risk or getting hit with his weapon. You can still manage to survive if you're smart about utilizing all your heals to get their full potential.

The Shadowforms are in the deck because it is very difficult to keep your own minions alive for more than a turn and they allow you to start chipping away at his low life total. Ideally you don't want to have anything on the board (he won't cast anything) and just start pinging him down. He'll eventually use a couple of Drain Life, but it won't be enough to save him.

Deck Notes

You can always add more heals if you need to switch anything out, but I would try to hang on to the Shadowforms because they are the best way to finish him off. If you would like to see a different approach to this encounter try one of the decks below.
