Update: Highest rank I achieved so far on Asia server with this deck (6/24/16)
Update 2: Also hit top 100 on EU server (6/25/16)
Hi everyone! This season I decided to try a F2P (free-to-play) challenge on Asia server since I don't have a very large card collection there. The rules were to use only basic/common cards (no rares/epics/legendaries allowed) and no adventure cards since these are typically very expensive for new players to unlock (700 gold per wing). The total cost is only 800 if you have to craft every single card but most likely new players will have opened a significant number of the cards through packs. Note that some of the deck costs on Hearthpwn are very misleading because they do not factor in adventure cards!! This is truly a F2P deck that can hit legend.
Proof of legend:
The strategy behind the deck as the name suggests is to OTK or one-turn-kill your opponent with Raging Worgen + Charge and activators like Cruel Taskmaster and/or Inner Rage. You generally do 16-20 damage on turn 6-8 to finish off the game. It has 2 copies of all combo pieces to help with consistency and plenty of card draw mechanics. It also has some anti-aggro cards like Mad Bomber and Ravaging Ghoul to clear the board and Bloodhoof Brave for taunt. Check out some of my instructional videos on this deck and other decks on my Twitch/Youtube channels!
Some example game play on the road to legend:
Basic Strategy/Mulligan
The mulligan is generally the same against all classes. You want Fiery War Axe all the time and your early drops like Mad Bomber, Loot Hoarder, Acolyte of Pain. Never keep combo pieces like Inner Rage, Raging Worgen, and Charge. Against slower control decks you can keep Gnomish Inventor for cycle if you already have the early game cards. Against aggro decks you'll want to keep Ravaging Ghoul for the board clear. Try to maintain board control early on with your weapon and early drops to allow you to fit in the face damage to put your opponent into combo range. Only start to go face if you have no way to come back on board or have the cards in hand to enable you to race for lethal. Kor'kron Elite is useful for punching in the needed damage or trading off minions like Frothing Berserker and Imp Gang Boss before they get out of hand. Bloodhoof Brave also allows you to stall out an extra turn to set up lethal. The key to playing this deck is always to know how much damage you have in your hand and when to start setting up lethal for next turn. Try to save Execute for getting through the taunts or removing big threats. Finally, one of your biggest swing cards is Battle Rage so always try to get good value from it to draw your combo. Happy OTKing my F2P friends! =)
Update (6/27/16):
Thank you all for the upvotes and feedback! Really happy to see a lot of new (and old) players benefiting from the cheap deck. Of course, I also see that many people are struggling, which is to be expected. I just want to make perfectly clear that a cheap deck does not mean easy-to-play or even "beginner-friendly." Why do I advertise it as F2P then? Well, it is F2P in the sense that you can pretty much craft the deck within a few hours of a fresh account. That means anybody can have access to it. The success of the player is then not limited to their card collection but by their skill, which is how I think the game should be. It also exposes new players to the depth of the game which may not be as obvious when you play face decks or curve decks like tempo warrior, c'thun druid, midrange hunter, etc. Although these other decks are much easier to play and are less punishing for misplays than combo decks, the sense of reward for playing a more complex deck is just on another level. This is naturally the case with any deck like miracle rogue or freeze mage that runs a lot of card cycle. Having more options and cards means more complex scenarios/decision-making than decks that naturally fall into play-the-topdecked-card-because-I-have-no-card-draw-and-rely-on-luck-to-get-my-curve-all-the-time-and-win-games-and-I-will-now-BM-emote-all-the-time-to-prove-that-I'm-not-a-bot-because-honestly-a-bot-could-play-the-deck-that-I'm-playing.
Okay, hopefully that was enough convincing to encourage newer players to try to learn the deeper aspects of Hearthstone gameplay even if it means some lower win-rates during the learning process. It's important after each of your losses to evaluate what went wrong in that game and if there were any points were you had multiple viable lines of play and made a wrong decision. Don't beat yourself up for losses to lucky players if you played correctly each turn. Learn to change the deck yourself as well! Deck-building is an important skill, and you understand a deck better when you are the one to build/modify it because then you know why each of the cards are in the deck. One of the common questions in this thread is about card substitutions for "upgrading" the deck if you have more cards. Here are some cards that you can think about including:
and the flex card spots are probably
It's up to you how you want to alter the deck to suit your play-style. You can make it very greedy to beat control or very anti-aggro. A middle-of-the-road upgrade that I like is
-1 Loot Hoarder
-2 Mad Bomber
Hope this helps! Good luck and please remember to have fun. It's a game after all!
Update (7/25/16): My newest preferred "upgraded" list:
-2 Mad Bomber
Blood To Ichor is a good anti-aggro card and good way to trigger Acolyte of Pain without giving up combo pieces. I decided against Frothing Berserker as being too slow to set up and not high enough impact without cards like Whirlwind. The focus is card-cycle and pressure to get turn 8 lethal consistently with the 2x combo pieces.
Aww, thank you for taking the time to contribute your thoughts, experiences, and tips for new players! This post made my day and makes contributing to the Hearthstone community feel really worthwhile! Glad you find the stream/videos helpful and best of luck with finishing up the season! <3
I started playing HS late June, built a shaman deck with try and error, bounding mostly between R20 to R15(get to R12 once by luck). This F2P deck is really great , improved my skills and understanding of the game. Strongly recommend lokshadow's videos, they are really helpful. I get to R8 this month using the original deck -1 Mad Bomber, -1 Gnomish, +1 Ichor, +1 Frothing in Asia Server. Get running out of steam is the No.1 reason of my losing games. Any suggestions when playing against Aggressive OTK Noface Warrior, C'Thun Warrior(tons of shield, 16-20damge is not quite enough, but when I put more minions on board to strenghen damage, Brawl would take them all) and Hunters(Kodos eating my Bloodhoods is painful)? Shaman is hard to deal with too, feral spirits, 234, 477, 655 and lightning storm are so OP, 2 excutes are not quite enough.
Test out the ichor upgrades mentioned at the very end of the guide. I think that should help out a bit against aggro and also allows faster cycle against control decks. Glad you found the videos helpful and are improving your gameplay!
Hi, I just wanna know what card can i replace to put in a Sir Finley. And i also wanna ask if the 800 dust deck still work and go to legend or it requires upgrades.
Try the wild pyro and ichor upgrades mentioned at the end of the deck and sub out a gnomish inventor for Sir Finley. It can definitely hit legend.
Thanks man, will try it when the ladder resets. Really appreciate your deck.
Hi, i'm back again after trying to climb with this deck :) Thanks for the fun deck, love to see unsuspecting enemies getting otk-ed from relatively 'safe' health :P
So apparently...trying to climb with this deck under rank 15 kinda hard. Well, at least for me. But its getting better above rank 15. My winrate kinda 60% ish with this deck. I made some adjustment by tech-ing 1 rampage and thaurissan. And i have question. Is it worth to switch 1 of the card on the flex spot with only 1 frothing? I dont have the dust to craft 1 more actually, and kinda wonder...is it worth to put in only 1 frothing? Or should i just stick with the original list?
And also, now i face another problem... Hunter... Somehow they deal face damage faster and i kinda dunno how to deal with hunters i met... Any suggestions?
If you check out my most recent video with the F2P list, I run 2x ichor instead of frothings to have some more early game and acolyte activators. I think it works pretty well, so maybe you can give that a try =)
I found climbing with this deck below rank 15 super easy... On a new account I went from rank 25-15 with only one loss at rank 17... Lower rank players don't expect 20 damage with nothing on board in one turn...
Hey dude!
All time favourite deck here and I'm huge fan of you. But I have a lot of trouble vs any form of warrior. Any tips?
Also, what do you think of Whirldwind in the deck?
Glad you're a fan! I'd say really focus on card cycle against any control form of warrior. Make sure to get value from acolyte and battle rages. Against tempo you want to fight for that board control. Use execute wisely for that board swing and know when to start going face when you have the combo. Whirlwind is too low curve of a card. You'll run out of steam if you include cards like this.
this deck is super fun even when I lose I have a fun game.
Glad you like it! =)
Welp, time to nerf Charge.
goooooood damn this deck blows. By the time you get a combo off the enemy has like several taunts up or some legendary knocking your skull in, then you finally get like 15 maybe 20 damage in and you wind up losing anyhow because you waited too long for a simple combo.
ill stick with pirates or patron thank you.
Where are you on the ladder? Taunts seem to be fairly bad when it comes to high levels. Also, the combo in this deck does 24, not 15 xD. Are you playing Battle Rage to draw 1/2 cards? It's much better if you save it until you draw 3 or more. If you need to deal 30 damage, rampage is an easy fit.
Enjoy the pirates and patron!
THIS DECK IS AMAZING. this just proves people dead wrong on how you can never win unless you feed like hundreds of bucks to it. good on ya for it mate.
now correct me if im wrong here but im just wondering. i think a grim patron isnt such a bad idea here. i mean there is quite a bit of AOE in here and mad bomber is a goo combo with it, however maybe only one for that extra push and not affect the strangth of this deck by very little if not at all.
Thanks! And you're absolutely right about grim patron: http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/529774-legend-lokshadow-aggressive-otk-warrior
I already had experience with this deck (dropped some comments at this topic before), but because of the new Hero, I started a new account and got some cards that are used on this deck, so decided to give it a try using a new f2p account.
The 13 free packs from WToG do not exist anymore, so it is harder to make good decks quickly using f2p. I do not have all cards yet nor dust or cards to dust (got one Epic that I dusted, the other only rares and useful).
My deck has Shieldmasta in place of the Brave, one Slam, one Wild Pyro, one Frothing Berserker, one Cruel Taskmaster, no Mad Bomber. Im using subpar cards like Elven Archer and Novice Engineer to compensate somewhat. But I am already at level 18!
I had the most memorable game at my history of Hearthstone yet (3 months playing): was playing against Cthun Warrior, the guy got two Armbearer, Twin Emperor, Brann with a minion. At a time, I had only one card in deck, and at hand I had - FWA, 2xWorgen, 2xCharge, Inner Rage. The last card was Inner Rage also. I had Shieldmasta and Ghoul at play. Cleared his minion (second Armbearer), got the combo for 16, eqquiped FWA, attacked, got 2 shield and ended my turn. The guy put Cthun and let me with 1 life, him at 17. He said two times "Well Played", which I replied Thanks. My turn, drew last Inner Rage, comboed again, put him at 1 health, attacked with FWA and won!
My adversary added me and called me names for like 5 minutes, which I only laughed at.
