Update: Highest rank I achieved so far on Asia server with this deck (6/24/16)
Update 2: Also hit top 100 on EU server (6/25/16)
Hi everyone! This season I decided to try a F2P (free-to-play) challenge on Asia server since I don't have a very large card collection there. The rules were to use only basic/common cards (no rares/epics/legendaries allowed) and no adventure cards since these are typically very expensive for new players to unlock (700 gold per wing). The total cost is only 800 if you have to craft every single card but most likely new players will have opened a significant number of the cards through packs. Note that some of the deck costs on Hearthpwn are very misleading because they do not factor in adventure cards!! This is truly a F2P deck that can hit legend.
Proof of legend:
The strategy behind the deck as the name suggests is to OTK or one-turn-kill your opponent with Raging Worgen + Charge and activators like Cruel Taskmaster and/or Inner Rage. You generally do 16-20 damage on turn 6-8 to finish off the game. It has 2 copies of all combo pieces to help with consistency and plenty of card draw mechanics. It also has some anti-aggro cards like Mad Bomber and Ravaging Ghoul to clear the board and Bloodhoof Brave for taunt. Check out some of my instructional videos on this deck and other decks on my Twitch/Youtube channels!
Some example game play on the road to legend:
Basic Strategy/Mulligan
The mulligan is generally the same against all classes. You want Fiery War Axe all the time and your early drops like Mad Bomber, Loot Hoarder, Acolyte of Pain. Never keep combo pieces like Inner Rage, Raging Worgen, and Charge. Against slower control decks you can keep Gnomish Inventor for cycle if you already have the early game cards. Against aggro decks you'll want to keep Ravaging Ghoul for the board clear. Try to maintain board control early on with your weapon and early drops to allow you to fit in the face damage to put your opponent into combo range. Only start to go face if you have no way to come back on board or have the cards in hand to enable you to race for lethal. Kor'kron Elite is useful for punching in the needed damage or trading off minions like Frothing Berserker and Imp Gang Boss before they get out of hand. Bloodhoof Brave also allows you to stall out an extra turn to set up lethal. The key to playing this deck is always to know how much damage you have in your hand and when to start setting up lethal for next turn. Try to save Execute for getting through the taunts or removing big threats. Finally, one of your biggest swing cards is Battle Rage so always try to get good value from it to draw your combo. Happy OTKing my F2P friends! =)
Update (6/27/16):
Thank you all for the upvotes and feedback! Really happy to see a lot of new (and old) players benefiting from the cheap deck. Of course, I also see that many people are struggling, which is to be expected. I just want to make perfectly clear that a cheap deck does not mean easy-to-play or even "beginner-friendly." Why do I advertise it as F2P then? Well, it is F2P in the sense that you can pretty much craft the deck within a few hours of a fresh account. That means anybody can have access to it. The success of the player is then not limited to their card collection but by their skill, which is how I think the game should be. It also exposes new players to the depth of the game which may not be as obvious when you play face decks or curve decks like tempo warrior, c'thun druid, midrange hunter, etc. Although these other decks are much easier to play and are less punishing for misplays than combo decks, the sense of reward for playing a more complex deck is just on another level. This is naturally the case with any deck like miracle rogue or freeze mage that runs a lot of card cycle. Having more options and cards means more complex scenarios/decision-making than decks that naturally fall into play-the-topdecked-card-because-I-have-no-card-draw-and-rely-on-luck-to-get-my-curve-all-the-time-and-win-games-and-I-will-now-BM-emote-all-the-time-to-prove-that-I'm-not-a-bot-because-honestly-a-bot-could-play-the-deck-that-I'm-playing.
Okay, hopefully that was enough convincing to encourage newer players to try to learn the deeper aspects of Hearthstone gameplay even if it means some lower win-rates during the learning process. It's important after each of your losses to evaluate what went wrong in that game and if there were any points were you had multiple viable lines of play and made a wrong decision. Don't beat yourself up for losses to lucky players if you played correctly each turn. Learn to change the deck yourself as well! Deck-building is an important skill, and you understand a deck better when you are the one to build/modify it because then you know why each of the cards are in the deck. One of the common questions in this thread is about card substitutions for "upgrading" the deck if you have more cards. Here are some cards that you can think about including:
and the flex card spots are probably
It's up to you how you want to alter the deck to suit your play-style. You can make it very greedy to beat control or very anti-aggro. A middle-of-the-road upgrade that I like is
-1 Loot Hoarder
-2 Mad Bomber
Hope this helps! Good luck and please remember to have fun. It's a game after all!
Update (7/25/16): My newest preferred "upgraded" list:
-2 Mad Bomber
Blood To Ichor is a good anti-aggro card and good way to trigger Acolyte of Pain without giving up combo pieces. I decided against Frothing Berserker as being too slow to set up and not high enough impact without cards like Whirlwind. The focus is card-cycle and pressure to get turn 8 lethal consistently with the 2x combo pieces.
No problem, I will try to save money for first and second wing, thanks for the reply!
This is one of the best decks that can be crafted with low cost. It is not an easy deck to plait makes you think. Also it is fun to watch LokShadow get to legend with it. Thanks and keep it up.
No problem! Glad you were able to catch the legend stream ;)
Imust bu the worst HS player because I cannot go Upper than 20 and I try to follow the videos. Half times, my cards just won't come, other half, the rival picks 4 legendaries and bb. :(
This is a very punishing deck. You must play perfectly to win, so you definitely need to practice it.
as of this writing, this deck is rated 666
just sayin... :D
Haha, the memes ;)
Hi,
thank you for the deck LOK, it's really good for new players to actually learn the game.
I have a question regaring Sir Finley Mrrgglton:
Is this order of other hero powers correct?
Mage > Priest >> Warlock = Shaman > Hunter >> Druid = Paladin >> Rogue
Or maybe that depends on the class you fight against?
Also, I found shaman hero power may roll you spell totem that can really ruin your combo - is it worth to pick it anyway (maybe some kindo of matchups)?
Thank U!
Glad you like the deck! For Finley it depends on the match-up. Against control you value the life-tap. Mage ping is a very good power for activating your acolyte and for some board control. Against aggro decks you can go aggressive with the hunter power as well. The shaman totem power can be nice sometimes to activate battle rage, but yes, the spell power is bad sometimes...
Deck is really cool, way more interesting than aggro-decks.

№1 Legend with upgraded version of this deck.
Yup, that's the Korean variation of the deck =)
what's the different of his deck?
Many thanks to Lokshadow! It is probably the best F2P deck out there. As a F2Per, I reach R6 in Asia server last month with this deck. After playing this deck and watch Lokshadow's videos, I try my Shaman deck again and do some slight change on the deck, and able to keep arond R7 to R8, which is a great improvement since I get to R20 multiple times in June. Looking forward to more F2P decks! It would definitely be more fun to play different decks!
Great! Congrats on that success and glad it's also improving your gameplay with other decks! =)
Thanks you so much for this deck,i played HS last month and reached ranked 10 after 100 games with this. The only replacements 2 KronElite= 2 Rampage, so i can make 32 dame and use Cruel Taskmaster to control the board early. But i have some trouble againts handlock, can u give me some tips?? Should i add 1 Brawl ??
Congrats on the rank and yes, brawl can definitely help you against handlock when they have their taunt walls. Otherwise, the focus is on card cycle to get the combo.
Glad you're doing well with the deck! I would say brawl is more useful than gorehowl for clearing a large taunt board and is also useful against aggro decks unlike gorehowl. Definitely can think about -1 gnomish for the +1 brawl.
Love this deck... Made a new account a couple of weeks ago and just saw this deck last week... I was able to make it within a couple days (thanks lorewalker cho for your sacrifice of dust) went from rank 25-15 in about an hours time... Awesome job with the deck Lokshadow... So much fun to play and a great way to rank up... Also made your more expensive version of the deck on my main account and I've been having a lot of fun with it as well...
Glad to hear it! Nice to be able to craft something reasonable to play with in a couple days of a new account =)
After about 100+ games with this deck, I must say this is one of the most well built decks I have ever played. it is just perfect. Really admire your deck building skills. Every minion has a purpose and they do it so well to help me get my final win condition. I don't even need the upgrades, I have even greater win rates without them.
The only thing I added is 1xBrawl in place of 1x Gnomish to help me tilt the game.
Win condition is mostly 20 damage on 1 turn or 16 +20 damage across 2 turns.
1. By turn 8, you should have him within combo range. I also make sure I have Fiery War Axe equiped the turn before I do the combo.
2. Always try to get value from acolyte and always watch out for Stampeding Kodo.
3. Know the mvps against your opponents class and use them to build pressure. Against Priest, Kor'kron Elite. Against Druid, Bloodhoof brave. Against Hunter, Fiery War Axe or Loot Hoarder on turn2.
4. Also you have to outsmart our opponent. Know their removal spells, what taunts they can play (paladins do still run Tirion Fordring so watch out). Think of what they might do next turn and try to make it very awkward for them. Skill and tactics are the only way you can survive with this deck so be very cautious.
Hunters are a pain but now i've learnt to get decent wins against them so im starting to improve (14-17). Fellow worgen warriors have not been a problem because once I start pressuring and shut down their card draw, they cant recover and while they remove my threats, I usually have a 16 damage combo to finish them off.
Lastly make sure you watch Lok's videos and listen to how he plans out his turns. He is amazingly efficient and you will definitely learn a lot :)
