This deck aims to be on the aggressive side for a tempo deck and on the midrange side for a pirate deck. The idea is to use your weapons with your spells to clear the board then take advantage of the board control you have with your charge minions and your high attack threats like Frothing Berserker and Bloodsail Raider. Cards like Blood To Ichor and Slam have synergy with your weapons, giving them extra reach for board control. After turn 5 or 6 you'll hopefully have gotten in a decent amount of damage and controlled the board, at this point you go all face before the opponent finds their answers.
Please keep in mind the deck can have a high learning curve, so don't be too quick to judge. It can be difficult to know how to juggle your weapons and this is something that will only come through experience. Furthermore it's often difficult to know when you should board control and when you should go face. If you've played Midrange Hunter before, try and make the decisions like you're playing that deck.
General Mulligan Tips:
Keep: N'Zoth's First Mate, Fiery War Axe, Sir Finley Mrrgglton, Southsea Deckhand (versus non-ping classes), Bloodsail Raider, Loot Hoarder
With appropriate other cards (generally ones in the list above) keep: Blood To Ichor, Upgrade!, Bloodsail Cultist, Dread Corsair
And obviously if your curve looks amazing, keep it all.
I've had a few questions about replacements for Captain Greenskin (which is very understandable, I'm not even sure why I have the card). I think the best replacement is Leeroy Jenkins but if you don't have that my general advice would be to just put in a 'good' card. Here's some suggestions with a kind of ranking:
1. Fierce Monkey
2. Bash
3. Azure Drake
4. Obsidian Destroyer
Worth noting that if you go with Fierce Monkey this deck only costs 1320 dust!
Sir Finley Mrrgglton stuff:
If you don't have the card you can replace it with Flame Juggler.
For Hero Powers obviously the top three are Hunter, Mage, Warlock. Hunter wins if your hand is amazing, Mage wins if it's decent, Warlock wins if it's average or worse, to try and generalise it. Choices between the others are dependent on the situation and normally fairly easy to see which benefits you most.
Storytime:
I actually ended up playing Xixo with this deck. He was playing Druid and opened up with The Coin, Innervate, Innervate, Fandral Staghelm, Power of the Wild. I Fiery War Axed down the Panther, he played Druid of the Saber and kept it stealthed. I played Upgrade!, Dread Corsair, Dread Corsair, Loot Hoarder and we both ended up with one card left in hand on turn 3. Just wanted to share that insane opening from both decks. Most importantly, I won. :P
If you've enjoyed the deck please give it an upvote.
What do you think of replacing 2x Loot Hoarder with 2x Battle Rage? I find the deck runs out of steam sometimes and draw becomes a problem. Currently 14-7 with it
I mean, the reason I didn't include them is that I didn't think there were enough activators and I didn't want to add any activators. The deck isn't really meant to be able to keep going that long, but make the change and let me know what you think. :)
I'll try and make sure that I write a mulligan guide when I get a chance. I always keep Fiery War Axe even with N'Zoth's First Mate, just got to play the deck enough that you don't feel bad going face with it. :P
In terms of other mulligans it really depends on what you have in your hand already. Once you have a N'Zoth's First Mate you can keep Slam, Blood To Ichor, Upgrade!, Southsea Deckhand and the same kind of goes for Fiery War Axe.
Fiery War Axe is always good no matter what warrior deck
Hey , guy! Any good replacements for sir finley?
I'd just put a Fierce Monkey in probably.
EDIT: Just realised you probably don't have that. In that case I'd go with Bash or Sparring Partner.
Sounds like a more midrange version. What have you cut for those cards?
I think Upgrade! is really important for the deck. It's the only weapon you can play that's still good if you already have a weapon.
Question I have is if you are going against a C'thun Warrior, is it basically a lose if you don't get them down turn 6-8?
BTW synergy in this deck is AMAZING, great job with the build!
*Update! So even losing to crappy Shaman C'thun decks. Should of had the win, it was 50/50 at the end basically. But yeah any advice, especially against good ones?
Also I don't believe this deck can beat the divine shield tempo pally deck, not enough board clear. Thinking of adding some sort of board clear to this deck.
It really depends on how strong their removal is and how well you can play around it. My general advice would be to disregard taking value trades quite early on and just start pushing face damage. They win if they have good removal, so you need to make sure they don't have the time to find it.
Do you mean any advice in general or any advice for versus C'Thun?
C'thun decks in general. I'm making a good push now. 50/50 vs C'thun now, 60%+ win vs pally tempo /w divine shield.
General advice versus C'Thun decks is to play like they don't have C'Thun in hand but do have Twin Emperor Vek'lor. So hold an answer for the taunts, or know how you'll deal with them but otherwise kill them before C'Thun.
As for Divine Paladin, while I don't encounter it much it is true that divine shields normally ruin weapon strategies, however N'Zoth's First Mate and Blood To Ichor help a lot.
It's in the deck. :)
Yeah, in my opinion he isn't good enough to make the cut. Might not be far off though, I haven't tested with him much.
I wouldn't go for Gorehowl. Generally in the later turns your weapons will be going face so Gorehowl is a bit slow for the deck. Leeroy Jenkins is probably the best replacement but if you don't have that just any good card is fine. Fierce Monkey would certainly do a great job. I've updated the writeup to talk about replacements for Captain Greenskin now.
Really enjoying this deck! thanks
If you have Leeroy Jenkins that's a good replacement, if not just go for a good card, Fierce Monkey comes to mind.
