is Lord Jaraxxus still viable? since Nefarian arrived any lucky opponent can get Sacrificial Pact and one-shot it
Almost every single match I end up with Jaraxxus as taunt. Is that the way im supposed to use him?
in most matchups yes, because the game has become so aggressive using Jaraxxus as a 4/16 taunt is actually very powerful, the only matchups where you actively want to cast Jaraxxus are against slow control decks like Warrior and Priest where you actually will have time to grind out a win by playing a 6/6 every turn.
What can I replace lord jaraxxus and the molten giants for?
I am so annoyed right now, because I got golden jaraxxus in a pack and disenchanted him for rag. Ever since I did that, I haven't used rag in any of my decks and have found so many good warlocks with jaraxxus :(.
There are no replacements for Lord Jaraxxus or Molten Giant. Their effects are too unique in what they allow you to do.
Really upsetting when the opponent silences or transforms Voidcaller and Sylvanas.
Is it worth cramming in Youthful Brewmasters just to counter silence?
I don't have jaraxxus but i use kel'thuzad instead
too bad i can't kel'thuzad + void terror same turn :D
Been trying this deck since the Leeroy nerf, it allowed me to craft Lord Jaraxxus and was looking for a good demon deck to play with him. Seeing your deck pairing him up with another one of my favorite legends, Illidan Stormrage, I was pretty stoked to try this out. I've been having a great run with it so far, have only been losing with bad hands or some craziness on the opponents' side (Got mad combo'd with Sludge Belcher/Baron Rivendare/Ancestral Spirit/Reincarnate....so many slimes.... @.@)
Voidcaller is the true MVP of this deck I feel, pulling out a 3/15 Jaraxxus, 5/7 Doomguard, or Illidan Stormrage feels amazing. Especially when you force it upon them by doing an Overwhelming/Terror combo on your Caller. Follow it up with Defender of Argus or Sunfury Protector and THE TRIFLING GNOMES ARE UNDONE.
Anyways, just wanted to let you know I've been having a blast with it and it's quickly become one of my favorite decks. Missing a few of the cards, I swapped a few. Still having good luck with it though, I feel like it's helped against Zoo quite a bit.
-Pit Lord
-2 Molten Giant
+2 Demonfire
+Mortal Coil
Not that I wanted to switch them, especially the giants, but it's been going well! Thanks! Oh, yeah...OBLIVION!!!!!!
Thalnos is good only if you're running Mortal Coils, and honestly they're just not that good in the current metagame due to the tremendous lack of aggro decks at higher levels of play. Bane of Doom however is a completely garbage card that you should only play with in casual games.
A common issue I'm facing with this deck is redundancy.
If I have both Voidcallers in my hand, a single Voidcaller's Deathrattle would be potentially wasted on the other one in my hand.
Likewise, if I have Voidcaller, Void Terror, and Jaraxxus/Doomguard/Illidan in the same hand during an early game turn (3-5) before turn 7 (terror + caller combo), Voidcaller suddenly has less potential value for that early game turn, possibly summoning an unbuffed Void Terror. I either play Voidcaller early, and risk the prematurely summoned Void Terror, or let Voidcaller stay dead in my hand until turn 7 while my opponent pummels me in the face with rush minions.
How do you deal with this? How did you overcome these mentioned obstacles?
Stop thinking that Voidcaller is only good when the dream play happens and you pull out the broken demon. Yes when that happens its almost impossible to lose, but even when it "whiff's" and you pull out a 3/3 Voidterror the card is still amazing. Think of it like a 4 mana 3/4 Harvest Golem that when it dies it leaves behind a 3/3. If such a card was printed it would be insanely good, just like how Voidcaller is insanely good, except Voidcaler has a WAY bigger potential for value than just a 3/3. If possible don't be afraid to play Voidterror on turn 3 as just a 3/3. Miracle Rogue has been playing vanilla Earthen Ring Farseer's and SI:7 Agent's for a long time and even though the play isn't amazing its sometimes exactly what you want to be doing.
Also please mulligan away your fat demons as suggested in the mulligan guide. You do not want them in your opening hand and the deck has enough ways to tutor them up that you don't want to start with them over higher value early game cards.
Is it ever a good idea to bluff by playing Voidcaller when you really no demons at all in your hand?
Sometimes, there's a constant feeling that I need to deter board clears, so would my Voidcaller bluff be appropriate if I don't have Loatheb in my hand?
That is a fine play when you're far ahead of your opponent, but it can obviously backfire and is risky.
Problem with Nerubian Egg: you activate it to play around Cabal Shadow Priest, and it ends up vulnerable to the Auchenai + COH combo.
If you try to minimize Auchenai's impact by leaving the egg un-activated, and you play right into a turn 6 Cabal Shadow Priest maneuver.
It's pretty much a lose-lose when playing Nerubian egg vs. Priest.
Also, when you don't draw your Watcher + Sunfury combo (or Hellfire) in time, you get killed by Zoo in a few turns (especially when they topdeck Soulfire and Doomguard for the last turn).
How do I deal with the above problems?
You cannot deal with these "problems". Every single deck in existence has unfavorable matchups. This deck has weak matches against Tempo Priest, Pre-Nerf Hunter, and Zoo if you don't draw in to AoE or your taunt givers (pretty much just like handlock with the exception that Handlock is strong against Tempo Priest.
Personally I have found the Tempo Priest and Zoo Matchups to be about 50/50. You win the priest matchup by playing fat minions they can't deal with outside of Circle Auchenai (which you try to bait out) or Shadow Word Death, as those are really their only answers to your threats. Zoo also just try and play as aggressively as you can, constantly getting a board presence and taunting it up if possible, try and use Soulfire for tempo plays as that's what's important here. As for Hunter, it's a crap matchup, expect to win it around 30% of the time, it's a reason to play this deck in tournaments where you can ban hunter and not really on the ladder.
But with everyone probably shifting to (mainly) control decks for the post-nerf meta (Control Warrior, Ramp, Control Pally, Deathrattle Priest, Deathrattle Shaman, Secrets Mage), will this Demonlock deck finally secure itself in the ladder?
The slower starts of those described opposing decks should allow for more time for me to set up my Voidcaller combos right?
Oh yeah this deck will be a fantastic contender after the nerfs to Buzzard and Leeroy. Warlock/Hunter Zoo are far easier to beat than the standard midrange hunter list that's going around now.
Doomguard is by far the absolute best card you can cheat in to play PERIOD. a 5/7 charge is a total beating especially after trading in for one of your opponents minions with the Voidcaller. Do not ever remove a copy.
Pulling Jaraxxus off of Voidcaller is not a bad thing, when taunted he's a 3/15 or 4/16 body that is insanely hard for opponents to punch through without silence or hard removal.
Fellguard is total garbage. Think of it like it's a shaman card with Overload except it overloads you by 1 every turn of the game after you play it until turn 11. In a deck that desperately needs to be using up mana efficiently to create tempo plays this is not exactly what you want to be doing just so you can get a quicker Sen'Jin Shieldmasta.
As for the amount of Demons, the only ones that are High Risk as you put it are Doomlord and Pit Lord, all of the rest are pretty solid whenever you cast them. Even Illidan can generate a dominant board presence in the late game when paired with a card or two, and Jaraxxus can obviously destroy slower control decks like Warrior in the late game if they whiff a turn on deploying a threat.
Also there is no such thing as whiffing off of Voidcaller. Even at his absolute worst when it puts a Voidterror in to play, think of it like a 4 mana Harvest Golem that starts as a 3/4 and then becomes a 3/3, a card that is in no way bad as it maintains your board presence. When the card works and cheats in a Doomguard, Pit Lord, Illidan or Jaraxxus though, the value is absurd and can win games by itself.
Depending upon your ladder metagame (in legend there's mostly hunter, super late game control decks, and tempo priest), so to combat the control decks and tempo priest I prefer double shadowflame, especially because of how attrocious the hunter matchup is anyway. Double Hellfire is only really preferable if you see a large increase in Shaman and Zoo. I guess you could run two of each if you really want to though.
While Sylvanas is certainly not a terrible card here I have to disagree strongly with cutting Loatheb. The goal of this deck is to make incredibly strong Tempo plays and Loatheb is the strongest tempo card in the entire game. You have a board and Loatheb protects it from your opponents spells which snowballs on your next turn in to victory (even if you don't immediately win the next turn you're much more likely to win the game than if you didnt play Loatheb).
