Everyone hates this card. I thought it was a cool mechanic and wanted to find a way to make it work, so I put this deck together mostly as a fun building exercise. Then it started winning against some of the stronger meta out there.
I'm not going to tell you this will beat every deck out there. In most cases this deck isn't going to do that, but it will definitely frustrate your opponent and its got enough small minions and combos to keep that annoying Shaman out of your face for a bit.
Mulligan: Jeweled Scarab, Backstab, Argent Squire, Abusive Sergeant, Pit Snake, Eviscerate Also I tend to keep Conceal for my Boogeymonster.
Jeweled Scarab has always been an excellent card, and it usually provided an early answer to most problems I ran into. Had a paladin drop Stand Against The Darkness on me turn 5. I dropped scarab and drew into Fan of Knives. Problem solved.
Eviscerate is also an early solution to that annoying Twilight Geomancer every C'thun deck plays.
Backstab, Argent Squire, Abusive Sergeant combo is also a good solution to them as well.
Okay so why The Boogeymonster and how to use him effectively?
Pretend you're a Boogeymonster! Hide in the dark!
Usually by turn 6 or 7 The Boogeymonster ended up in my hand. I wait for turn 9, and drop The Boogeymonster and Conceal him. The opponent always panics. Once The Boogeymonster starts eating his minions, he's going to have a problem. Because when he's eaten all the minions he's going to start eating him.
Typically your opponent will drop as much AOE as they can to try to hurt The Boogeymonster while he's stealthed. So this helps get rid of your opponent's nasty board clears like Flamestrike. Sorry there's no counter to Equality + Consecration, but if your opponent is that desperate to get rid of The Boogeymonster, its a good thing for you. You're sitting on 10 mana and have a lot of options now that he's used up his two big board clears.
The Boogeymonster is really good at eating totems, Murlocs, and anything else that hasn't got an attack or a low attack value. But he can eat bigger minions too. Use him strategically to eat something the opponent needs and then you really make your opponent sweat by (hopefully) dropping The Boogeymonster 's best friend: Master of Disguise and stealthing him again!
Other ways to use The Boogeymonster would be to swap out something like the Undercity Huckster and replace it with Defender of Argus or Sunfury Protector. Your opponent will have to either trade a lot of minions (or one big one), or use a single target removal source to get rid of him them.
I suppose you could drop the Master and put in a second conceal for cheaper mana cost. But the Master provides another minion on the board and minions are still the best consistent source of damage in the game. Plus it doesn't mess up the Reno Jackson mechanic in case you got unlucky and need the life injection.
Most of the bigger cards are in the deck for denial, stalls, and just plain fun. Use your Shadowstep wisely because you only get one. I tend to save him for my Cult Apothecary when facing decks that run lots of minions.
I found Thistle Tea to be an excellent choice in the deck as 3 of anything in this deck is going to come in handy (I drew 3 Assassinate once. Fun ensued). Gang Up is also good for when you really need a lot of minion 3 more Boogeymonsters,Infested Tauren, or Jeweled Scarabs would be my choice. Infested Tauren is sort of the weaksauce version of Sludge Belcher but he's all we got for Standard play.
Oh and why is Yogg-Saron, Hope's End in the deck? 15 spells. If you draw him before you get your Boogeymonster, or even after. You might just win the game with it.
Any big creature can replace Yogg due to the randomness. If you feel that the deck needs more removal, add in a Vanish. If you feel that your deck needs some damage and a big body, use a North Sea Kraken. It's all your choice, but nothing can replace Yogg's uniqueness.
Yogg is in the deck purely because the amount of spells used in the deck make Yogg an excellent late game drop. But you can replace him with virtually any other card you choose. If you play it and want to experiment with another big drop, go ahead. Or maybe you have another card that would get you some mileage. Just be careful not to drop a duplicate into the deck, or it keeps Reno Jackson from working. The main thing in the deck you can't lose is The Boogeymonster. Without him, it's not a Boogeymonster deck. :)
Curious to see if new cards from the Karazhan set will affect how this deck plays.
Shame that Hunters don't have access to Conceal. I would think that Giant Sand Worm would be a lot scarier and worthwhile than The Boogeymonster and it's only an Epic.
Giant Sandworm is a great card! But This is a Boogeymonster deck. It just works well for rogues.
Wouldn't the deck be better if you replaced Boogeymonster with literally any other 8-drop?
Ragnaros would be much better, for example.
Ragnaros is a great card. But this deck is a challenge in using the Boogeymonster. If you take the Boogeymonster out, you have some other kind of deck, not a Boogeymonster deck.
Stealth doesn't work with Rag
The deck has generated some really fun games. It's not going to take down the top meta decks that are floating around. But, it has solutions for almost every deck you will run into. The truth is you could lose The Boogeymonster and change a few cards out to suit your strategy. But I enjoyed the challenge of building a deck around a new card that is almost universally loathed by everyone.
