Hey guys its FR0G, *NOTE* I play on the NA server
Currently Testing still with the release of Karazhan
Please Up Vote if you like the deck :) Thanks!
it could be a string of bad luck, everyone goes through it, but yes mulligan is the most important part. You must have a game plan vs each of the match ups you face. Should always be thinking of what your opponents might do on X turn and what you will need to counter it. If you don't have what you need, think of the next best thing you can do with what you have atm.
I think the weirdest part about this deck is proc'ing Tony. Theres only a couple of spells you can use on turn 10, or something from Cabalist/Conjurer. What do you think about this?
The way to play Tony, is all about the timing. Does your opponent show weakness such as, he is low on cards, he's already used lots of removals, he just had his board cleared (depending on what class they are).
For example, If you just cleared his board with say, Doomsayer or something and You have the initiative to play a minion onto the board first, and its vs ZOO. You just drop tony turn 7 end of story end of game. gg. How are they going to deal with it? Even if they they, they gotta charge maybe a doom guard? discard 2 cards in the process then buff it so its like 4-5 cards they are using to get rid of it. And that was their whole turn. Or usually just wait till their board is full and you Tony + Frost nova.
Vs. Monkey users. If you see anyone using Elise Starseeker, You never play Tony until they play the monkey, because thats your win condition. Without spells how will they ever deal with Tony?
Sometimes you just accumulate a big combo maybe off tome, got yourself some small cost spells and you got your emperor off.
Was really worth it after testing?.. I've always had bad luck with card like that..
Early game its great. But man.. yesterday night... I played Iceblock had Reno in hand and everything was gonna be good. And i play this card.. which Gave me the Ice block..But it gave my opponent flare... FML
Hey froggy what do you think is the optimal replacement for is? I can't afford to craft it for sure and don't have it ;-;
Senjin!
oh. duh/
Hi Bonek1994,
Freeze mage, Zoo should be probably The easiest match ups. Freeze mage is auto win, just need reno. Well I guess most match ups are determined by whether you drew reno or not. If you're having too much trouble I'd swap in a Panda, Youthful brewmaster or something but he's the 3/2 2 mana panda that returns a minion back to your hand. Against zoo, don't overreact to their board. Make sure you get value of your AOE's. If you're losing to zoo, it probably means that you're using your resources too fast. Set up plays, think a few turns ahead. Think about what your opponent might do on X turns, and how you would should prepare to deal with that line of your opponent's play when the time comes. V.S Freeze mage, always keep your ice block, Reno. From your discovers, always look for additional ice blocks. Usually they concede upon site of reno. Remember though that the freeze mage Usually will figure out that you are a Reno mage, and will try his/her best to hold onto their Alex until After you've reno'ed. I hope this helps you at least some what.
Best of Luck,
FR0G
Thanks for the deck!
Reno Mage is my favorite nonsense to play and the deck I was building just wasn't working so I finally bit the bullet and crafting Archmage and Thalnos. I'm only 2-0 with this one so far but it's already performing much better than mine (and I haven't had a chance to play either of my new legendaries).
^^ Thank you Vallaqan!
I'm glad you're having fun with my deck.
Just a few quick tips for your new legendaries:
I usually hang onto thalnos in mulligan especially if i have arcane blast. As for Archmage, If you can get a big board clear by turn 6 or 7, vs aggro, you can usually just drop him naked onto open board. Most likely you're opponent will concede. If you ever see any Elise being played, hang onto your Antonidas until the monkey is played. Usually its auto win in those situations as your opponent will not have any spells to deal with your Tony.
Good tips. Thanks.
I'm somewhere around 8-2 now. The losses are just not drawing the correct answers to super aggro decks. I think Antonidas is hiding from me though since I have only played him once in 10 games.
The classic example of why I love Reno mage decks just happened. Guy broke my ice block and starts spamming "Well played" on my turn while I think about what exactly I want to do along with Reno (these type decks usually involve a lot of thought which is why I like them). So naturally when I later drew two Pyroblasts with my Brann+Ethereal Conjuror and had him at 8 two turns later I returned the favor before wiping him out. Felt good. :)
I was going to write a guide for my Reno Mage, but I saw this posted here so I'll just share my list which is similar.
1 Shifter Zerus
1 Doomsayer
1 Fallen Hero
1 Jeweled Scarab
1 Loot Hoarder
1 Sorcerer's Apprentice
1 Kirin Tor Mage
1 Spellslinger
1 Refreshment Vendor
1 Water Elemental
1 Ethereal Conjurer
1 Emperor Thaurissan
1 Reno Jackson
1 Sylvanas Windrunner
1 Archmage Antonidas
1 Yogg-Saron, Hope's End
1 Frostbolt
1 Arcane Intellect
1 Counterspell
1 Forgotten Torch
1 Frost Nova
1 Ice Block
1 Mirror Entity
1 Cone of Cold
1 Fireball
1 Polymorph
1 Cabalist's Tome
1 Flame Lance
1 Blizzard
1 Flamestrike
I agree with Kelvoner1 that Yogg-Saron should be included, but Emperor Thaurissan is also key as freeze Mage players know.
Good luck.
Hello PsychicDog,
Thanks for sharing your list! I originally wanted the shifter Zeus, but sadly I don't have that card yet :( However, along with my reasoning for removing Yogi, I've now decided I do not want the crazy rng those 2 cards come with. Yogi usually was worse for me, especially since it often fatigued me. I also feel like since you are usually Reacting to your opponents moves, Most secrets are just a huge tempo loss. With the limited mana your given per turn, you usually have something more important to play, and secrets can be achieved via conjurer, tome, etc.
Heyo! I was just wondering what could take the spot of the cabalist tome and arcane blast, I don't have either and Im really short on dust... For now Im using shatter and pyroblast.
Hello Blue_cactus,
Sorry for the late reply, Arcane blast can be replaced with many things, however I believe Tome cannot be replaced. For blast perhaps Arcane missiles, Mirror Images, a loot horder, or YOGI! Yogi: Yog Sarran was originally replaced by arcane blast for me.
Alright, thanks! I did craft Cabalist Tome but ugh, I can't get myself to craft Arcane blast it just sounds like such an underwhelming card for 400 dust .-.
try any of the others i suggested?
Yeah! Im running Loot Hoarder and its working out pretty well, thanks :P
Hello theoempire,
Also Sorry for the late reply. Azure Drake is fine, Apprentice should be good too. I have no idea what arcane shift is, i'm going to guess typo for missiles? Please correct me if i'm wrong. Anyways Thank you for enjoying my deck^^
