Welcome to Soulbound's Guide to Expert Level Priest. Here we will be Discussing Priest in Rank Leveled Play and go through some Specific Card Choices and how the Meta works.
- Pros
- Priest is incredibly versatile, more so than other classes
- Getting into a Late Game Match will usually be in your favor.
- Priest is Infamous for the amount of Control it has.
- Turtle your way to victory (Heal, till the late game)
- Hard to counter a Priest
- You are cool for not being Meta
- Cons
- You need certain card draws, don't get some? GG.
- The best cards are usually the most expensive to craft
- Minions with 4 Attack will counter you... *Sobs Quietly*
- Can be killed before you establish a board presence.
Introduction
First a little into me and Soulbound in General. Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, I go by the Name Lux and I am the Owner of Soulbound, an Infamous Deck Building team with some of the Best Players in the world. I have been playing Hearthstone since the closed beta. Although I personally spent most of my time playing casual being far to busy to sit down and dedicate time to rank play I have a large knowledge of the Meta and what works and what doesn't.
So no more delays this is Soulbound's Expert Leveled Rank Priest Guide. This will be a long detailed guide and since Soulbound releases not everyone has the fastest internet I will put stuff in Spoilers.
Now on with the show
About this Deck and Priest in General.
Although there are a huge amount of different Priest styles, Ancient Watcher Style decks are the most common and regarded as the best out there, This deck is a mix between Ancient Watcher (Often seen in Handlock) and a Circle of Healing deck. The idea of this deck is to Control the Board, Put up those Early game Ancient watcher and get ready to clear the board setting up for your Damage dealers like Ragnaros, Since you will want to be able to hold your own against Control Decks such as Handlock Alexstrasza is there to pull that victory from your opponent.
Main Strategy - Control
The aim with this deck is to set up board control early in order to shut your opponent out and get the game to the late game, Where your cards will naturally excel we do this by putting taunts on Ancient watchers and keeping them alive. We can also use our Board Wipe spells such as Soulpriest + COH or Holy Nova in order to keep the board clear.
As you progress to the late game you want to make sure that your opponent keeps any big threats off the field such as Ragnaros etc, You can do this Via Mindcontrol, SW:D or Faceless Manipulator and RNG it.
You will want to out last your opponent so all those Hunters using tracking will cry when they run out of cards.
Win Condition -
This Priest Deck win condition is mainly focused around board control and to keep a board presence in order to get to the later game where your deck will excel , We use Ragnaros and Cairne for Damage dealers and Ysera for late game sustain and Card Pull.
Mulligan Strategy-
There are two Mulligan Strategy for This deck.
Cards you generally want to keep: (Method 1) - Early Game Board Presence
Circle of Healing
[card]Power Word: Shield[/card]
Cards you generally want to keep: (Method 2) - Early Game Taunt
[card]Power Word: Shield[/card]
Cards you don't want to keep:
Auchenai Soulpriest
Shadow Word: Death
+ Most other Big Minions
Yeti is Ok.
Popular Combos -
Some of the popular combos of this deck include:
[card]Ancient Watcher[/card]+ Sunfury Protector+ Power Word: Shield For that Early Game Taunt Wall.
Northshire Cleric + Injured Blademaster + Circle of Healing For that Super Yeti of a Card + Card draw.
Auchenai Soulpriest + Circle of Healing For that Buffed Up Board Wipe
Cards to Swap or Consider-
Although there are many small tweaks you can make to this deck the most Viable ones in my Opinion are
Adding some silence (I am currently running one silence against Cairne Bloodhoof
Adding a Big Game Hunter to replace a Shadow Word: Death - Although a Bit risky unless the Meta Shifts to a lot of Handlock and Druid Play.
Running into a Lot of Early game Aggro/Zoo? Change the Chillwind Yeti for Wild Pyromancer and watch the world burn with that for Wild Pyromancer + Power Word: Shield

This Deck is Dedicated to All The Members of Soulbound who make Playing Hearthstone an Thoughtful and Enjoyment experience.
Somewhat of an oddball and it takes getting used to, but so far it's very solid as a deck, especially given that new metas typically involve aggro decks and this is a straight counter to aggro. Been a while since I saw a similar Priest deck with stuff like ancient watcher so it's also refreshing to play. lol
Had a turn 3 DOUBLE ancient watcher with taunt against a generic aggro deck and just laughed. Most aggro decks are about having the cards and being boring, rather than actual play.
EDIT: As someone who loves Priest in theory but not in practice...holy fuck this deck is awesome and fun to play. The only change I would suggest is removing a card (possibly Cairne) in favor of a Azure Drake. While the deck doesn't have many spells, the 4-cost with a card draw is the primary reason, because Thoughtsteal is...well...random. Yes, I've had legendaries 2/3 times with it but that was luck. You can also face a rush deck and get 1-cost minions for 3 lol. However, it's worth noting that replacing Cairne means your degree of board control is reduced as well, but since Azure Drake is essentially a soft-taunt you could argue that degree of control remains the same.
This deck is loooootsa fun though, and it absolutely CRUSHES the current meta so long as you don't get unlucky.
Also, it's universally very adaptable. I watched a Warrior, in one turn, fill his board with grim patron charge and a 21/2 Frothing Berserker but I survived death and won the match because I had earlier used Mindreader along with a cost-efficient taunt wall to nab several cards that were retrospectively counter towards his own.
This deck is probably the best I've ever played. At the very least, it's my absolute favorite now. It requires good experience and knowledge with the game mechanics especially concerning control style gameplay because while this deck has plenty of healing, if you fuck up too many combos you will likely lose.
Concerning Priest experience requirements, it only requires rudimentary knowledge of good combos such as Healer + Injured + Circle of Healing, etc. It also requires as noted previously a good sense of "how" to play control decks.
The only downside is the card draw as mentioned above, but because you are a priest you can generally outheal heavy rush damage if you get a shit starting hand. Your early game (T2-T3) can be pretty shaky if you don't get a combo in your hand.
Overall, if you like control decks, stop what you're doing right now and try this deck out, because this is a MUST HAVE for control players. Even if you don't play control, this deck is amazing against the current rush meta.
Lost 5 in a row! Lucky draws only!
Love this deck! All you have to do is not die early and let your big guys poop on their faces!
Can i replace Rag, Carine, and Ysera with: Alex, Black knight and something else?
can replace ysera foe alexstraza and cairne for sylvanas? but I don't have ysera and cairne :D
0-8 unranked games so far.
im sick of editing this post. I will call this a terrible deck, sry mate :(
this is my new favorite deck for when i keep hitting obnoxious control over and over. it outlasts anyone.
This deck is crap now with current aggro meta, most game you hardly get to 10 mana. Plus this deck and shit for clear card. You really need those draws.
Plus if you run into paladin deck, you will get wreck my turn 6
I tweaked this Deck to make it more versatile and fit perfectly in the current Meta, since there are a lot of Aggro in some Rogues, Warlocks and Hunters i still have removal and added Wild Pyromancer just in case, and since i've been seeing an amazing amount of Handlocks, late game Druids, Combo Freeze Mages, Miracle Rogues and Hunters, I can have an earlier impact on the game with Ancient Watcher silenced and Injured Blademaster, plus Handlocks and Druids carry heavy Taunts i changed Cairne for a Deathknight, also changed a Sunfury Protector for another Defender of Argus couse it also buffs up your minions and makes your opponent hesitate to deal with them with ex: Polymorph, so instead of just waiting out the game with your opponent your actually going to be dealing damage or trading
A good draw and also a weak draw from the opponent is needed. Indeed since the deck has poor early presence and poor late presence limited late presence. Since it relies a lot on copying the opponents deck and given a lot of the decks are zoos it means chasing after their minions until they finally deliver the final blow...
"You need certain card draws, don't get some?"
You got that right havn't seen a win in 6 games now but least I get a mind control and ysera on turn 1
I would toss Cairne and one of the other two legendaries. You can do far more damage with lightspawns and they catch the enemy by surprise within 2 turns. Legendaries are instantly targeted and destroyed as fast as possible.
Edit: add double minion health to maximize damage. Delete power word: shields to add them in.
I dont have Ragnaros and Cairne, are there any alternatives?
I would love to see your iteration without Watchers and taunts tbh. Check out my "Time Heals All" deck right now without them. Pretty decent success rate so far, up to Rank 13.
Thoughts on trying to put in Sylvanas? I don't actually have Cairne and I feel like she's a solid card to have in a priest deck. So I'll probably run her as a replacement, but I'm curious if she's viable to have in the deck along with Cairne, or would it be better to use her if the meta shifts to more druid and handlock styles of play?
The downside for this deck is against Zoo. There is an increasing amount of Zoo decks this season, which makes this deck less effective and efficient as compared to the previous season.
random number generator (A.K.A Ragnaros)
What would you replace with Cabal? That is the one card in the deck I have yet to obtain.
Thank you!
I played this deck last season and it was very FUN! I got to rank 8 but I did not play too ranked more than a few hundred games. I also am not a great player so I think this deck has great potential - more importantly the deck is so fun.
thanks
