This is the druid deck that Gaara used @ Dreamhack Bucharest 2014.
Gaara did take first place in this tournament using this deck and the hunter deck he worked up with Kolento.
Gaara went undefeated in this tournament up until the finals, where he went 3-1.
This is a "ramp up" style druid deck, and had a record of ~44-7 according to Gaara in an interview.
Gaara plays this deck EXTREMELY conservatively, and stated that he is adamant about using his Ancients efficiently, and not let them just rot in his hand.
(Updated this deck, all 30/30 cards are now completely known. Announcers said during the finals that he ran two Starfalls, but per the known casted games, this is unfortunately not correct.)
Going through old decks so i can be reminded of what was dominant back in the day. Can't wait to use this in the new classic mode.
This deck is unquestionably awesome in tournaments. One of the best players in the world uses it, he goes almost undefeated every time, he's probably the best druid player in the world, and I've seen other pro streamers go on 10+ legend rank winning streaks with it.
However, it seems to have a couple flaws at the lower ranks. First, it can lose hard to rush decks that get a good start. This deck only has 3 AoE damage cards, so the odds of not drawing one early are high. If you don't get an innervate and a big taunt, or if they remove/bypass it, you're screwed. It also seems to have problems against odd non-meta decks that have ways of bypassing taunts or "bad" control cards that don't see legend rank play.
The second flaw in my opinion is Sylvanas. Maybe I just suck, or I haven't had a good opportunity to use her yet, but she is a big fat dead card most of the time. Her mana cost is too high to play most other cards in the same turn, and good players will rarely let you steal something. She's more of a pseudo threat that usually acts as a weak 5/5 with taunt. I'm not sure what to replace her with, but I always wish I had something else in my hand.
Aye I'm dropping Sylvanas, don't really understand her place in here at all.
cairne is a lot better
I don't get how this deck is successful at all. Either you get really lucky with a huge early game ramp or you lose. You lose to even bad early game decks. Adding Senjin's did very little to stop this. Either I ramp or by turn 6 I'm on 10 or less life if not dead already. And the ramp seems to be really rare. If you don't mulligan into innervates or wild growths, you are screwed.
If your between rank 15-5, i would suggest getting rid of a facelss and throwing in a shieldmasta. Due to the lack of legendaries in these ranks you are probbably not going to run into as many good cards to copy. Also more zoolocks at this level, and shildmastas help alot
A few good replacements, expecially for grinding through ladder are:
Shieldamastas are great against aggo and zoo locks, and can be good replacements
Carine Bloodhoof is a good replacement for sylvanas
A rag okay too if you don't have cenarius
Cairne is probably your better bet there, or a shield masta
How does this deck deal with Warlock, Hunter, & Rogue? It seems like the deck is really geared towards beating a mid-range to control metagame, that you would be more likely to see in a tournament format, but not so much against an aggro to mid-range meta that you would be more likely to see on the ladder.
The deck seems REALLY dependent on drawing its ramp and a lot of taunt. If you don't get it, which happens a lot, you're just going to be too slow against the top decks of the meta. Doomguard is really hard for Druid to eliminate without making really bad trades. Hunter can easily bypass taunt with Hunter's Mark, Deadly Shot, Kill Command, or Ironbeak Owl. Druid is too slow to consistently put enough pressure on Rogue to outrace their Gadgetzan Auctioneer or their Saps. All three of which can easily draw way more cards than Druid to not worry about 2-for-1 trades. Obviously, there's something I'm missing here, and I just don't understand.
Don't get how he won a tournament with this, or he must be the luckiest guy in the world. This deck handclogs every other game and you get humiliated by a deck of aggro commons or op Hunter, good against other control, stinks in the current aggro meta on eu ladder
If you are having a lot of trouble winning with this deck it is highly likely that you are misplaying it (mulligan choices/strategy). It is extremely versatile and good at all levels of ladder. But, it can be very hard to play. It gives you a lot of options which, while helpful, can make it difficult for new users of the deck to pick up. It performs well against legend players, mid ladder, and bottom ladder. I was using a version very similar to this before he won and I have seen a lot of players pick it up since it won. And I can definitely tell you that people make huge mistakes all the time when using it vs me in the mirror that allow me to easily win. Definitely a choice driven deck, more so than most.
I agree I always end up with a dead nourish. but I think it does well against agro imo.
You literally can't fail a mulligan. Keep Wraths, wild growths, innervates, keepers. if you don't get at least 2, you are screwed and even if you do, you need some good draws.
Love this deck, but i think Mark of the Wild is a dead card in my hand more often than not. I believe adding in 1 force of nature + 1 savage roar to this deck is very powerful.
Mark of the Wild is actually used for removal as well, and not just bigger minions on your own board:
Deck is so powerful in late game and somewhat weak (if you don't draw Wrath or Swipe) in early game that I'm not sure it's worth it.
Alright, I've made a few changes to the deck that I think help it out at lower ranks (such as starting out in Season 2) where it's all a bit messy. Now I'm not a particularly adept player, highest rank is 8 or something so far, but I found that a lack of early game minions (admittedly I'd dropped the yeti) was causing me some problems. By the time I hit 6-7 crystals, when this deck really kicks in, I'd taken too much damage already (assuming unlucky with wrath etc.) so made the following total changes;
OUT : 1x Sunwalker, 2x Mark Of The Wild, 1x Cenarius,
IN : 1x Ysera, 1x Sen'jin, 2x Harvest Golem.
Ysera for Cenarius was mainly because I don't have the latter, though I do prefer Ysera (or Rag) as a card. Honestly I found Mark Of The Wild pretty useless for me with this deck, but I may swap it back out for a Golem. Not sure on Sen'Jin or Yeti yet.
Went on a 6 win streak until I came across a Legend card back Hunter, who frankly, top-decked immensely luckily and didn't really deserve to win.
I love Mark of the Wild with this deck. You can combo it with Black Knight to take care of anything, OR you can use it to essentially heal a minion. Also works with an enemy 5 attack minion to sink it with Big Game Hunter. I enjoy it. I do agree that there aren't many smaller early game creatures but that's why the focus on early game is wrath/swipe/take a few hits.
I may have to try your Sen'jin and Harvest Golems out though.
You guys need to try my version then. I have taken out Mark of the Wild and BGH because I found them to be dead draws most of the time.

I'm probably going to drop Sen'Jin for Mark. I do think two Marks is overkill and it often felt like a dead card in my hand, but I can't say Sen'Jin has done a lot for me either. Harvest Golem however has really helped with establish earlier control and not really at any really expense of late game domination.
