Hi, I'm Ismiel and I love Midrange Shaman. I repeatedly played Midrange Shaman to legend even before WoG, but it's only since WoG that I reach high legend.
Mulligan Guide:
Always keep Tunnel Trogg and Totem Golem.
Keep either 1 Lightning Bolt or 1 Rockbiter Weapon.
On Coin keep Tuskarr Totemic and Feral Spirit.
If you have the tools to flood the board (f.e. Tunnel Trogg and Tuskarr/Feral Spirit or more than one 1/2-drop), you can keep Flametongue Totem.
Against Warlock and Shaman keep Lightning Storm if you already have some 1/2-drop.
Why did you recently remove 1 valiant for squire? 2 valiants come in handy
Ragnaros is blind, which makes him inferior to Al'Akir in a deck with Flametongue and Rockbiter. I'd like Justicar if she allowed shamans to build two totems in one turn, but last time I checked she only allowed me to pick the totem I wanted.
Viable replacements for Al'Akir would be Bloodlust, Doomhammer or a 2nd Thunder Bluff Valiant, and I can't tell you which of them is the best at Lvl 9, because I'm not at that Lvl and hence don't really know the current Lvl-9-meta. Against Control Warriors a 2nd Thunder Bluff would be the best and Doomhammer the worst. Generally Bloodlust is good if you need to race decks that sooner or later allow you to have the board (f.e. Hunter, Aggro Shaman, Freeze Mage). Bloodlust can also work if you have to trade into bigger minions (f.e. against C'Thun decks), but it's bad against Zoolocks, because against Zoolocks you often struggle to get the board, and once you have it, you win anyway. Doomhammer is fine whenever you don't run into Harrison.
I suggest you try which works best for you while keeping these things in mind.
This is a sick deck, thank you. I'm not legend (yet) but I got 7 wins in a row with this deck just trying it out! Thank you!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I've been playing Hearthstone since it was publicly released, but I've never got legend....UNTIL NOW! Thanks to this deck, I finally made Legend on the last day of the season!
The meta right now is so heavy with Dragon Warrior, but Shaman counters its tempo so well.
The only changes I made to the deck were removing 1x Azure Drake and 1x Flamewreathed Faceless and replaced them with 1x Argent Squire and 1x Stormcrack. I found that if I didn't draw my Troggs or Golems early, I would lose to tempo. There were also a couple of times where I was awkwardly sitting with 2x Drakes or Faceless in my hand and I'm losing to board control. Squire helps with tempo and board control while Stormcrack was great additional removal against big minions/taunt.
Congrats! :D
Congrats!
Stormcrack is good against Dragon Warriors, because they have dangerous 4-health-minions. There's just a higher risk that you run out of cards with your version. For that reason I would rather replace 1x Lightning Bolt than 1x Azure Drake.
Nice deck. I'm trying it but with a few changes:
-1 al'akir, -1 faceless, -1 lightning bolt and +2 argent squire, +1 doomhammer.
I wanted to have a bit more early presence against hunter/warlock/aggro decks in general. What do you think?
Should be good against aggro. Doomhammer is fine as long as there aren't many Harrisons around. With 2x Argent Squire consider adding Bloodlust, unless you meet tons of Zoolocks. Bloodlust is super bad against Zoolock.
al'akir is one of the shittiest cards of shaman, better not using it lul
btw is there any replacement?
Well, the card helped me to get to Legend. There's Doomhammer as a replacement, but I find Doomhammer to be better in more aggro Shaman where you're really just trying to get damage to the face. In this midrange deck, you're looking for tempo/board control as you don't really have burst damage. I found Al'Akir great as it helped me to remove a minion or two, especially with Rockbiter, and it often lived to stay behind as a taunt. To me, Al'Akir IS for removal so that's why I didn't play him immediately and only used him to answer the board or when my opponent had little to zero cards left and no board.
Thanks dude, just made Legend with your deck. Was struggling to get past rank 2 with aggro shaman and midrange shaman. Breezed right through with this deck as-is.
Glad to hear it! At first I had some trouble adjusting it to the meta this season, but now I think it works very well, so I'm happy with the current version.
Congratulations on becoming Legend!
why doomsayer ?
I tried to get rid of some overload. Doomsayer is not bad when you lack 1-/2-drops. Atm I prefer Stormcrack, but I'm not completely sure yet.
