PROOF OF LEGEND:
VIDEO EXPLANATION:
GAME PLAN:
We have a Tempo Mage here, so we need to gain as much Tempo as possible while being as aggro as possible, thanks to the extra mileage of the Ice Block for its main effect (of having us not die once) and the collateral effect: the mistakes that the opponent will make during the game, not really knowing what this secret will be.
You see, when people play an underpar turn, trying to proc our secret, playing crappy minions/spell, they are doing the correct play. But if we have an Ice Block out, they'll waste their turn in vain. All the while we build up Tempo and board presence. Or we shoot them in the face with our burn spell. Or both!
Play for Tempo, remove minions efficiently and let the PEW PEW begin!
CARD CHOICES:
This time around I'll go over only the "unconventional" choices
Really strong opening vs many classes paired with a Mana Wyrm and a Coin. Protects our board from weapons/minions and lets us unleash the sinergy of our deck. Often gaining a single turn could be game winning and don't forget that decks like a ZooLock that is a little behind could have trouble removing them efficiently. Playing Archmage Antonidas followed by this, gives you the first Fireball and could protect our Fireball's Santa from the minions that are trying to kill him.
There it is, the star of the deck. The Playmaker. The MVP. Just thinking the faces of our opponents while they struggle to guess which damn secret hides the little purple dot, makes my smile grow wider every second they spend wondering. Countless times the opponent tries to proc the secret with a crappy minion or an useless spell. You know what makes me happier? When they realize (usually too late for them) that is an Ice Block and they have thrown away their winning condition AND their turns trying to guess. But you know what makes me REALLY happy? When I play another secret and they start the guessing work all over again. Also pretty much guarantess the value of both Mad Scientist having 3 different Secrets in the deck. Yay!
SUBS:
The only substitutions that I could advise are this ones:
1x Mirror Image ► 1x Arcane Blast
if you really feel like you need some spells to board control early in the game.
1x Ice Block ► 1x Duplicate / 1x Effigy
if you don't own one or you simply don't want to run it. They can have a similar effect on the guessing works of your opponents, but they do have a negative synergy with the early game minions and 0/2 images... run them at your own risk.
MULLIGAN STRATEGY:
Try your best to have the smoothest mana curve possible. Try to exploit the Coin with the Flamewaker or Mana Wyrm synergy, or in the worst case with Archmage Antonidas to create an extra Fireball
Always keep Mad Scientist and Mana Wyrm
Vs Shamans, Druids, Mages, Paladins and Warlocks keeping also a Frostbolt to kill the early minions is also advisable.
MATCH UPS:
This is the record of my win rate from rank 4 3 stars to Legend. Yay for a meta full of Druids and Secret Pally to wreck really hard!
If you have any question feel free to post in the comments and I'll answer everyone asap, and don't forget to leave a like on the deck or on any of my socials! See you around ;)
Great deck! Obviously takes a bit of practice like most decks do. I found that subbing Pyroblast for an Unstable Portal worked well
I personally prefer the Unstable eSportals for the value they sometimes give, but if you feel safer/better with a pyro instead of one of them, go for it! gl hf :)
Don't u find Rhonin a greatlategame gard for this deck?
Sadly it's WAY to slow for my liking.... if it was a Battlecry instead of a Deathrattle I wouldn't have tought twice about it, but in its current state, I prefer much more Antonidas as a finisher! gl hf
thank you so much! gl hf
Been playing tempo mage since it first became popular, but having very little luck with this version. Aggro decks walk all over it, even at rank 18, which is odd since I've usually gone to 10 easily with the older versions..
the only aggro deck that it's hard if they have perfect hands is face hunter, the others should be not too much of a problem for this deck... play aggressively and nuke them in the sky ;) gl hf
I am doing very well with this deck apart from one match up. Secret Paladin. I cant seem to find the right way to play these guys, I tried playing my cards aggressively but i always seem to run out of steam when i attempt that, When i try to draw a bigger combo, i just get steamrolled. What are your suggestions on facing secret pally with this deck.
mulligan hard for your early game, use your removals efficiently and get the control of the board. I know it's easier said than done but you can do it :) gl hf
the guys beard gets a +1 from me
For the power of BeardGnaros, I have the power!
i got a beard aswel but not as powerful as yours! mine is weak atm :(
stay strong my bearded fellow, it will take time but it will grow. BeardPowa!
Played one game. Won against a Druid who did 18 damage in a turn. Ice Block saved the day!
I did run Ethereal Conjurer too. Got me a Spellbinder which caused a bad minion play and soaked up a swipe.
i like it.
I find Ethereal too slow, but if you like it why not! Ice Block isn't generally expected and bursty classes get their asses handed to them when you have it in play ahah
I can't understand why in a Tempo Mage variant Mirror Image is in the "Card Choice" section but Piloted isn't .
because I find Mirror image more unconventional than Shredder.... no one uses them now, while the shredders are used a lot :)
How do you play vs priests? Seem to be getting owned by them, only class Im having trouble with
it's a though matchup, it's a bit better vs dragon but vs control with their million heals and removals is complicated. try to stockpile nukes in hand and burst him down in 2 turns! gl hf
I do this if I'm stuck with bad cards in hand and a mirror entity. I've done it a couple of times vs Rogue and other Mages.. pretty cool right? ;)
