PROOF OF LEGEND:
VIDEO EXPLANATION:
GAME PLAN:
We have a Tempo Mage here, so we need to gain as much Tempo as possible while being as aggro as possible, thanks to the extra mileage of the Ice Block for its main effect (of having us not die once) and the collateral effect: the mistakes that the opponent will make during the game, not really knowing what this secret will be.
You see, when people play an underpar turn, trying to proc our secret, playing crappy minions/spell, they are doing the correct play. But if we have an Ice Block out, they'll waste their turn in vain. All the while we build up Tempo and board presence. Or we shoot them in the face with our burn spell. Or both!
Play for Tempo, remove minions efficiently and let the PEW PEW begin!
CARD CHOICES:
This time around I'll go over only the "unconventional" choices
Really strong opening vs many classes paired with a Mana Wyrm and a Coin. Protects our board from weapons/minions and lets us unleash the sinergy of our deck. Often gaining a single turn could be game winning and don't forget that decks like a ZooLock that is a little behind could have trouble removing them efficiently. Playing Archmage Antonidas followed by this, gives you the first Fireball and could protect our Fireball's Santa from the minions that are trying to kill him.
There it is, the star of the deck. The Playmaker. The MVP. Just thinking the faces of our opponents while they struggle to guess which damn secret hides the little purple dot, makes my smile grow wider every second they spend wondering. Countless times the opponent tries to proc the secret with a crappy minion or an useless spell. You know what makes me happier? When they realize (usually too late for them) that is an Ice Block and they have thrown away their winning condition AND their turns trying to guess. But you know what makes me REALLY happy? When I play another secret and they start the guessing work all over again. Also pretty much guarantess the value of both Mad Scientist having 3 different Secrets in the deck. Yay!
SUBS:
The only substitutions that I could advise are this ones:
1x Mirror Image ► 1x Arcane Blast
if you really feel like you need some spells to board control early in the game.
1x Ice Block ► 1x Duplicate / 1x Effigy
if you don't own one or you simply don't want to run it. They can have a similar effect on the guessing works of your opponents, but they do have a negative synergy with the early game minions and 0/2 images... run them at your own risk.
MULLIGAN STRATEGY:
Try your best to have the smoothest mana curve possible. Try to exploit the Coin with the Flamewaker or Mana Wyrm synergy, or in the worst case with Archmage Antonidas to create an extra Fireball
Always keep Mad Scientist and Mana Wyrm
Vs Shamans, Druids, Mages, Paladins and Warlocks keeping also a Frostbolt to kill the early minions is also advisable.
MATCH UPS:
This is the record of my win rate from rank 4 3 stars to Legend. Yay for a meta full of Druids and Secret Pally to wreck really hard!
If you have any question feel free to post in the comments and I'll answer everyone asap, and don't forget to leave a like on the deck or on any of my socials! See you around ;)
Fantastic deck, just hit legend (EU) running a version of it with Ice Block swapped for a second Counterspell. Reason being the only matchups where the effect of the iceblock itself would really matter was face hunter and shaman, both already good matchups IMO. Besides the mindfuck effect still applies because hardly anyone plays around the second one. Warrior, Paladin and Warlock matchups are so much more favorable when you can deny AoE more reliably.
That said, in an aggro heavy meta the Ice Block is a great inclusion.
Gran bel deck Royal, attualmente sono 670 in EU e penso sia il tempo mage più performante.Bel lavoro :)
This deck is really funny to play, thanks!
hey royalmail is there any way to fit Echo of Medivh i think it would be crazy good if your ahead and no way to run out of steam after what do you think? Not a lot of minions in this deck so idk.
the only way to find space would be to remove the Ice Block. The problem with the Echo is that if you're winning is a good card, but if you're losing it's absolute garbage, especially as a Top deck! Try it out if you want, and let us know how did it go!
6-2 atm small portion but still working well without iceblock so fun too i got 2 Archmage Antonidas this one game xD
So far going good! Just having a hard time with control priests and face hunters :(
Replaced 1 Azure Drake with 1 Ethereal Arcanist.
Face Hunters are a bad matchup, not much you can do about it, except try to get aggressively on the board and go from there. Control Priest shouldn't be too bad because you can "stockpile" nukes in hand and try to kill the Priest in 2 turns, hoping that he doesn't have or run Flash Heals and Justicar! Keep at it and you'll reach your goal! gl hf
Started playing this deck at rank 11 and I've dropped a few now. Any advice on how to deal with face hunters and secret paladins? I never seem to get any tempo between all the secrets and the lack of wave clears has me taking lots and lots of damage.
Against hunters any minions I drop on the first few turns always seem to insta-die to explosive traps/quick shot or get sent back via freezing trap and i've taken too much damage by then. Against paladins, secret keeper and muster for battle ruin my day on top of all the extra secrets.
On the other hand, warlock decks are the easiest things in the world at the moment.
Secret Paladin should be a decent match up, in the starting hand look for early game spells and minions and play aggressively for the board. In case you can manage to get Flamewaker with some spells, keep them and use them to board clear and keep the control of the board! Let us know how it goes gl hf
Hey!
great deck, thanks for taking the time to put this together and share it with the community.
I was wondering if you think it'd be a big mistake to replace 1 fireball by flamestrike?
Thanks
My pleasure! It should be doable, but you shouldn't need the Flamestrike, because if everything went according to plan you should be in complete control! Try it out and let us know! :) gl hf
So far went from rank 6 to 4 without losing a game, and only one of my games was even close. +1 for the insane deck!
Happy to know that is working for you! Legend here we come! :)
amazing job! I really appreciate the time you took to write the post and I find that the results are as expected, except the warrior should be a bit lower and the druid should be higher on your favor... Druid REALLY suffers Tempo Mage and Patron can be a pain in the ass for you.. but yes, you should go aggressive with this deck as soon as you have board control/burn spells ready.. I'm happy that you liked the deck and ran it with success (60% is a really good WR if you ask me!). Keep on playing it and you can easily Legend with it! Have fun and good luck man! ;)
amazing! let us know how it goes! :)
Awesome deck! Keep up the great work!
I'll keep on doing my best ;) gl hf! Enjoy the deck!
non mi piace un gran chè francamente troppo random e non sinergizza con i Wyrm e le Immagini :/
or maybe that you don't know that Tempo Mage is reliant from a good starting hand like all tempo decks. if you think EU Ladder is full of retards, sure, feel free to bash on the hardest ladder out there ;)
