If you like this deck and guide, don't be shy and hit the [+] button. It is super easy to find it, and I spent like few hours making this guide for you folks, not even counting the hours I spent playing and refining this deck.
Introduction
Hello everyone. I am just a random guy that loves Renolocks and Dreadsteed. This and last season, I played in total more than 150 games with Renolock on ladder, but I always felt like it is missing something. Sometimes, enemy was just able to constantly clear all my threats, sometimes I lacked removal against zoo or aggro. So I was thinking, what is almost unremovable and it can endlessly clear the board when facing zoo and aggro? Yes, you are right. It is Dreadsteed. Right now, I have around 120 games with Renosteed played. Currently, In S22 I climbed from rank 17 to rank 6 ONLY with this deck, so that is in total 11 ranks climbed with Renosteeds. Right now, I am in LEGEND, playing this deck.
This deck works really well in this meta. Secrets? You have all removals you need and Dreadsteed works really well in triggering secrets. Aggro? This deck runs Reno Jackson and a lot of board clears. Control? You cannot lose control matchup, only if you are extremely unlucky and enemy is extremely lucky. Freeze? They cannot kill Dreadsteed, so you can just ping enemy face and heal. Combo? You have your own combo to counter and Loatheb
Reached first page on HearthPwn, thank you everyone for your great support :)

Click for video by ZalaeHS playing this deck (starting at 04:01:34). (thanks to his deckdoctoring I found weak spots in this deck and corrected them properly).
Click for video by P4wnyhof playing this deck (starting at 01:27:00). (he made small modification, replaced Sludge Belcher with Nexus-Champion Saraad).
Video by Khristophesaurus playing this deck from version 1.0 of deck, but still worth looking at (thank you very much for playing it, it really motivated me to continue working on this deck):
Changes
- 22.02.2016: Playing Legend with this deck
- 09.02.2016: Added possible Mal'Ganis replacement to Replacements section.
- 27.01.2016: Reworked the guide, removed Synergies section and added Card choices section.
- 21.01.2016: Added matchup with Raging Worgen Warrior to How to play section.
- 20.01.2016: Out: Piloted Shredder; In: Earthen Ring Farseer;
This allows for a lot better survivability in early game and also in Lord Jaraxxus mode. Added matchups with Secret and Anyfin Can Happen Paladin and Control and Freeze Priest. - 20.01.2016: Out: Dr. Boom, Emperor Thaurissan; In: Imp-losion, Loatheb;
A lot better against aggro and combo decks, also, with this cards, you can easily win against Secret Paladin.
How to play
Your game plan is to survive until mid-game, and then, in ideal conditions, spawn 4-5 Dreadsteed with Baron Rivendare combo. And then, continue with clearing the board and playing your big threats, like Mal'Ganis, Sylvanas Windrunner + Power Overwhelming or Shadowflame combo, to steal and clear and then stall. When playing against control decks, drop the Lord Jaraxxus as early as possible, and be sure enemy cannot combo you next turn. Then start spawning Infernal and enemy will just burn all their removals in trying to stabilize. The ultimate finisher in this deck is 5 or 6 x Dreadsteed + Mal'Ganis combo, what does in total 15-18 damage in one turn for 9 mana (yes, I am not counting the cost of Dreadsteed here, because they are just infinite value).

Try to control the board early. It is your best bet to win. This deck is doing so good against SP . I have around 90% win rate against them from like 15 - 20 games. Try to mulligan for Zombie Chow, Demonwrath, Imp Gang Boss, Hellfire. If you will be able to get Dreadsteed from Voidcaller very early, you are going to have probably easy win, because Dreadsteed is super awesome at triggering paladin secrets and you have enough removals to deal with their big minions. Also, have Acidic Swamp Ooze ready for Tirion Fordring.
Anyfin
Even
Anyfin paladins mostly do not run any silences, and they run a lot of board control, so try to get as much Dreadsteed combo value as you can and hopefully finish them with Mal'Ganis. Mulligan for all your combo pieces, so Dreadsteed, Baron Rivendare, Sacrificial Pact. Also, best strategy against anyfins is to pressure them, so also consider mulliganing for some early game, like Imp Gang Boss. Also, do not be afraid of SMOrcing, most of anyfin board control consists of cards that will kill both sides of board.
Priest
Control
Favoured
This is a bit tricky matchup, because they have Cabal Shadow Priest, what is supper annoying for Dreadsteed decks. So, never play naked Dreadsteed when Priest can cabal it. Try to get atleast 4 or 5 of them in one turn, then it is basically win for you. Mulligan for Darkbomb for Northshire Cleric and Ironbeak Owl for Velen's Chosen and other priest things. Your win condition is Lord Jaraxxus
Freeze
Extremely Unfavoured
This is really tricky to win. Try to mulligan for Darkbomb and Zombie Chow to prevent him drawing with Northshire Cleric and for Imp Gang Boss to put some early game pressure. Then try to make as much Dreadsteed as you can and try to finish him with Mal'Ganis before Prophet Velen + Mind Blast combo. Lord Jaraxxus from Voidcaller is good use of him here, and also for healing, but if you play him to pressure enemy like in control matchup, you will 99% die.

Same strategy as with Freeze Priest. Mulligan for Darkbomb to deny him draws from Acolyte of Pain, maybe even using Ironbeak Owl on it is worth it. Then try to get together as many combo pieces as you can and finish him before Raging Worgen combo. Also, putting pressure early is okay, he is running only few removals that can really hurt you. Some worsen warriors are running Grim Patron also, so have your Hellfire ready for it.
Card choices
- Sacrificial Pact: This card is really horrible. But in other decks. In this deck it is 0 mana 5 heal that costs us nothing, because we will use it on Dreadsteed. Also, it is one of our combo pieces with Baron Rivendare and Dreadsteed on board. Also, sometimes secures free win against other Warlocks (kill enemy in Lord Jaraxxus mode, kill enemy Mal'Ganis for free and so on).
- Mortal Coil: Great card in overall. Can be used to duplicate Dreadsteed with Baron Rivendare, finish enemy minions or kill Leper Gnomes and cycle itself.
- Power Overwhelming: Awesome synergy with Dreadsteed that allows us to do really valuable trades, or just to finish enemy. Or trigger Sylvanas Windrunner. Or, when in struggle, to duplicate Dreadsteed.
- Darkbomb: Great card, kills Tunnel Troggs and Northshire Clerics.
- Dark Peddler: 1 mana Warlock cards are awesome and there is high chance you will get them. Also, we need 2 drops.
- Demonwrath: We need something to replace second Hellfire, so we have this. It can deal with enemy board pretty well, sometimes useless against zoo.
- Imp Gang Boss: Probably the strongest 3 drop. Awesome against aggro, can trade really well, synergy with Defender of Argus and we need more things to lead us to lategame.
- Hellfire: We almost negate the negative effects of this card, because we have Reno Jackson and Dreadsteeds. Great board clear.
- Imp-losion: This card is absolutely awesome. Can deal with enemy aggro, can deal with Piloted Shredder. Also, great synergy with Mal'Ganis if we do not have enough Dreadsteeds on board already.
- Shadowflame: Another awesome board clear in this deck. Synergy with Sylvanas Windrunner and Power Overwhelming.
- Dreadsteed: We built this deck around this card. It have insane value, is unkillable and wins control games. With Mal'Ganis, it can deal 15 damage in one turn, if you have enough Dreadsteeds on board.
- Voidcaller: The only value way of summoning dreadsteed. Also, it's pretty nice to surprise your opponent with an early Mal'ganis, or punishing an aggro by forcing Jaraxxus to hit the board and then taunting it up.
- Siphon Soul: Can deal with Ysera, Tirion Fordring and heals you. Awesome big removal.
- Twisting Nether: Kills everything. Except Dreadsteeds. No need to say more about this card.
- Lord Jaraxxus: Good heal and another win condition in control matchups. Infernal also have good synergy with Shadowflame. Also, AWESOME synergy with Sacrificial Pact. You can kill yourself and then restore 5 health (sarcasm).
- Mal'Ganis: Turtle is awesome. It buffs demons and you are immortal. Combo piece with Dreadsteed for big amounts of damage in one turn.
- Zombie Chow: Great against aggro and midrange to buy the needed time for getting into the late game.
- Acidic Swamp Ooze: A lot better than Harrison Jones, because we have enough card draw from Life Tap.
- Ironbeak Owl: To get rid of buffed things from Paladin, enemy Sylvanas Windrunner, Nerubian Eggs, Twilight Drakes and so on. Basically, to remove things that can really annoy you. Also, to get rid of Dreadsteed that enemy priest stolen from you.
- Big Game Hunter: Standard large removal for Dr. Boom, enemy Mal'Ganis, Thaddius, Ragnaros the Firelord and so on.
- Earthen Ring Farseer: Extra healing always helps, and 3/3 for 3 mana is also pretty good stats. Also, Farseer is optimal healing even when in Lord Jaraxxus mode, where you are in stage where every point of HP is crucial.
- Baron Rivendare: Our only Dreadsteed combo enabler. Also, good synergy with Defender of Argus when playing against aggro. Can be also used with Sylvanas Windrunner for double steal.
- Defender of Argus: Extra defense always helps. Great synergy with Dreadsteed for free 2 2/2 taunts.
- Antique Healbot: Our main healing source before or after Reno Jackson, because possible 29 HP heal isn't enoguh.
- Loatheb: Awesome stats for 5 drop, and helps us to win against combo and freeze decks in some cases or to protect our board.
- Sludge Belcher: Another big "heal" in this deck. Sometimes it can heal us for even more than Antique Healbot and it can also protect our board.
- Reno Jackson: Thanks to Reno, Life Tap is super awesome. We can draw to our combo pieces more easily, comeback from almost being destroyed by Huntards or Face shamans to enemy concede. Also, great to win fatique war.
- Sylvanas Windrunner: She is maybe too slow, but we have sticky Dreadsteeds anyway and in this deck she have great synergy with Baron Rivendare, Shadowflame and Power Overwhelming.
- Molten Giant: Most of the time, we will end up being at low HP, and Molten is one of our comeback mechanism. With Shadowflame or Reno Jackson, this card is absolutely insane.
Replacements
- Lord Jaraxxus: It is hard to replace him, but you can try Alexstrasza, what can lead you to more healing for yourself, or surprise lethal with Mal'Ganis + 5 Dreadsteed followup combo.
- Loatheb: Along with some other card, you can replace it with Feugen/Stalagg combo. No need to say more, we have Baron Rivendare. Also, you can replace it with Abusive Sergeant. Do this if you are facing a lot more aggro than combo or freeze decks.
- Sylvanas Windrunner: Mind Control Tech. Not awesome replacement, but sometimes it can perform really well.
- Molten Giant: You can replace it with Kel'Thuzad. If Baron Rivendare isn't enough to pull off the Dreadsteed combo. Also, can be usefull with Sylvanas and at lategame in general. 6/8 minion that resumes your entire board is not very easy to beat. Also, you can replace Molten Giant with any other giant, in this deck, all of them can work (except Clockwork Giant). Or even Anima Golem, what works really well in Dreadsteed decks.
- Voidcaller: Sense Demons. Good replacement, because Voidcaller works in this deck only in very specific cases, and Sense Demons can secure the Reno value.
- Sludge Belcher: Emperor Thaurissan. This can help you sometimes, playing Lord Jaraxxus and spawning Infernal in one turn is awesome. Also, you can consider Nexus-Champion Saraad. Why? Sometimes it can be good. I personally prefer Belcher, but P4wnyhof was playing this deck with Saraad as replacement for Belcher, so I don't know, maybe it can work?
- Mal'Ganis: Arch-Thief Rafaam. This card is a bit slow, but if you really miss Mal'Ganis, the 11/11 Dreadsteed with Lantern of Power is also really great and with Dreadsteed deck, you have almost guaranteed that you will have something on board to buff with the Lantern.
Is this deck still viable in Wild Mode?
Ok... Maybe you should replace Molten Giant with something else, because it has just been nerfed and is pretty unusable. And you should consider adding some Whispers of the Old Gods cards, if you think they can make this deck better than it is.
I would craft golden Lord Jaraxxus and golden Mal'Ganis if this deck is still viable, so anyone let me know! :P Ahahahaha
i can see the potential of the deck but i still struggle a little playing it...i think i lose matches i'm not supposed to...do you mind if i add you and watch some game :)?
Are you playing Renosteed at all this season? I wonder if you've many any card replacements.
I also wanted to ask if you think [card]N'Zoth the Corruptor[/card] will be a good addition to this deck for the Wild format. N'Zoth will bring back a Dreadsteed for each time it died, so he could be a fail safe if you don't get enough value out of Rivendare. He also brings back Voidcaller, Belcher, Sylvanas, etc.
Dreadsteed X 2. Reno Jackson. Has nobody actually played Reno to heal yet on this deck?
"If your deck contains no more than 1 of any card, fully heal your hero."
Am I missing something?
Kirke
Thank you for clarifying, I've been doing it wrong since the beginning. I'ma give it a try!
also its 2 of whats in your DECK so if you have 1 dread in HAND and 1 in DECK reno is still activated :D
I love this deck, but it is most definitely not favored against Druids. I have never beaten a Force of Nature Druid with this deck. Not once.
I don't know. No matter what I try, they always seem to be able to keep something on the board and turn 9 is game over.
I'm running Dr. Boom instead of Molten Giant. I feel like with having so many different sources of healing and such efficient minions your health with be often high which makes Molten Giant quite awkward and sometimes a dead card. Of course in doing this i cant do the Molten Giant + Shadowflame combo but i think the trade off is worth it as i can play Dr. Boom every game i draw him. IMO Dr. Boom is just more consistent. They don't call him Dr. Balanced for nothing ;) But otherwise nice deck! its performance surprised me. so far 13 wins and 6 losses at rank 6. i'm omw to legend :D
What rank did you take this deck to?
I was always a big fan of Dreadsteed Warlock and this deck seems really fun. Just one question: do you think Anima Golem could find a place in this deck? I use him in my standard dreadlock but i'm not sure if he'll be good here too..
Hello mate,i'm a big fan of Reno*Lock decks and yours looks insane and i will try it for sure but before i try it can you explain me why are you using Twisting Nether and not Hellfire instead.?
Omg thats epic cause i thote that the Dreadsteed won't return.Epic.
i don't see why jaraxxus in this deck.
is he just here to heal?
Got a very similar deck (you can check it in my deck-list) created 2 months ago... Reno Jackson undoubtedly fits in the Dreadsteed decks!
Is this change viable and better then Piloted Shredder? Nice to have on curve a T3 3/3 that heals for 3 if there's early action. It helps to stall the game and can be game deciding.
At least we have the possibility to Combo Baron RIvendare with PIloted Shredder for even more value. I'm a huge Fan of this card but see the benefits of Earthen Ring Farseer.
