I just hit legend with 84% the highest win rate/fastest climb yet. Climbed in one day proofs below. When Reno first came out I made a freeze mage and went 12/11 with it, problem was there were more warriors and Kazan Mystics to tech against Paladin/Hunter/Mage. A week later I revised it a little and tried it out today and climbed to legend fast and fun. Today went 26-5 to legend largest win rate I've had yet at any rank!
Here is a small guide:
Mulligan: Fairly simple. Mulligan for card draw and mad scientist always. Against hunter keep ice barrier. Against warrior keep Thaurissian and Antonidas, only because you almost always lose and the only wins are when you get Antonidas to go off hard.
General Tips:
- Don't coin out your 2-drop on turn one even if you have 2 two mana drops. Exception is face hunter.
- Freeze mage can use their nukes to clean board to slow down their damage early, but once Alexstraza is drawn start planning to lethal.
- Use Deck Tracker, it makes Reno way easier to use, as well as planning lethal and even customizing a deck. Don't be a tryhard just use it!
- Can't fatigue other decks, too much cycle.
- One large difference to this freeze is only playing one Ice lance, and playing Pyroblast. Obviously playing one offs is better for Reno, but I've always found Ice Lance to be situational in the past and one is fine.
- Reno - Just replaces the Healbot tech. Generally doesn't become available till you have a 12 card deck or less. Can be rarely played on tempo as a 4/6. This is really the best deck for Reno without building a deck full of one-offs.
- Freeze mage is one of the most fun decks to play, and worst to play against as they freeze you or play ice barriers and you slowly watch yourself die. Add in Reno and drink their tears!
- Happy to hear your experiences and your feedback or questions!
Matchup notes:
Priest: Easy win usually because they can't pressure you enough, just play around Cabal Shadow Priest don't let them take your loot hoarder/mad scientist.
Rogue: Oil rogue has burst and is a problem, but the current mid range using the raptors is generally too slow to pressure you.
Warrior: Obviously worst match up, my only wins are when I get 4+ fireballs from Antonidas. I only faced 2 on my climb and won one. Warrior is weak to paladin both secret and mid range so there isn't too much of it. This is another mulligan exception where you keep Antonidas and Thaurissian. Can usually concede when they play Justicar though.
Warlock: Handlock is a good match up, can usually burst them out. Reno handlock is worse obviously if they draw reno but not horrible. Won every game against zoo and Peddler zoo is popular right now.
Druid: Aggro druid is somewhat common and probably the worst match up right now.I had a positive record against it but small sample size, plus they're face scrubs.
Mage: I only faced one other freeze mage on my climb and burned his Reno through overdraw, typically face tempo Flamewaker mage which this wrecks. They generally either play 1-2 Mirror Entity, and 1 counter spell and playing doomsayer into their copy makes it ez.
EDIT: So if you're not sure how Reno works in this deck let me explain because there are multiple duplicates. First because mad scientist is generally mulliganed for and hopefully drawn, it draws out the secrets so there are very rarely duplicates of that let. That leaves generally Frostbolt, doomsayer, arcane intellect, frost nova, blizzard, and maybe mad scientist. Still multiple duplicates, but not that many. Reno doesn't active till 12 or less cards, and generally isn't played till 6 or less cards so obviously there likely won't be duplicates. This deck controls and cycles well so it goes late and Reno works. He doesn't always save you, but so many of my Druid or Rogue or freeze mirror wins or others are because of him, just another out to draw.
There is a new counter to this deck, Warlock Reno. With healbot, Reno, and Jaraxxus its often too much heal to overcome. I've tryed saving Alexstraza for after Reno but then jaraxxus just heals again. If this deck becomes prominent I'd try and include another ice lance for larger burst.
Okay retard, let me teach you a few things about Hearthstone.
1. Your English is horrifying. So I did my best to comprehend you.
2. Reno is introduced as a perfect balance to the game. When the game was full of aggro Druids, face Hunters and secret Paladins, it was not that fun. This game is meant to be a trading/tempo/try-different-things-to-have-fun game. Playing Reno forces you to have less or no duplicates of cards, which means they are generally fun decks to play. I don't know about you but I figured most people didn't like 3-minute games.
3. Reno does heal for quite a bit most of the time, but he doesn't do much if you are falling behind or going to fall behind on board. I've seen Warriors with 50+ armor and still lose the game.
4. As mentioned before, Reno decks runs little to none duplicates, which means the opponent will worry less about a card once you played it when he's sure you are playing a Reno deck, and it gives the opponent a slight edge.
5. If you are on the clock with a face Hunter, well good luck finding Reno because you are not even half way through the deck on turn seven. Even if you mulligan exclusively for Reno, it's still almost a 50% chance to get him before turn 7.
6. You'll never see him being nerfed. Blizzard only nerfs things that do too much damage which is unfair and not fun to play against, commonly high attack charging minions that can add up to 30 damage in one turn.
7. You are all wrong in the last part. A) Freeze Mage is not OP, its average win rate is slightly under 50%. B) Demonlocks don't run Reno, they need a lot of two copies of specific cards to work. Reno Warlocks don't even run Voidcaller mostly because it's too hard to get the synergy working. C) Mid-range decks also need quite a bit of 2 of the same cards to get the synergies to work so they can tempo out their opponent, from turn 3 to turn 7 most of the time. Reno decks' win condition is to build up defense, clear the opponent's board, and outlast your opponent. So I wouldn't call a Reno deck mid-range, because it's an attrition deck.
If you'd really like to play Freeze Mage, he definitely is. If you really want to play Reno Freeze, then he's pretty much a must in order to avoid unnecessary duplicates.
He's also useful in a handful of other decks; he's just very versatile, but not on the level of Dr. Boom or other must-have legendaries.
I currently have no bloodmage thalnos do you think its a big problem or can I just swap him with a fireball or maybe another ice lance?
Swapping thalnos for an ice lance would work, or you could swap him for another loot hoarder for cycle.
**WARNING** if you are running 2x Forgotten Torch and using a deck tracker IT DOESN'T TELL YOU ABOUT HAVING 2x Roaring Torch AND Reno Jackson WON'T WORK (cost me the game, and I was on a streak)
K lets get some things straight.
Reason I posted 84% when deck tracker doesnt say that. I previously used this deck in a poorer meta, shelved it, and brought it out when it was 11-12. Then when I climbed to legend with 84% win rate to a 38-17 record, which was a 26-5 which is 84%. Even if i was lying about 11-12 start it would still be 70%.
Reason 2 blizzards and no explosive sheep. The freeze from blizzard is important against many decks, sheep works better against some more aggressive decks.
This deck is a week old, and the meta has changed significantly. Particularly Reno Warlock and all the aggressive shamans. At the time I posted it I was obviously having much more success against the people climbing to legend at that time, plus people play fast decks when climbing early in the season.
Lastly I don't give a damn about people calling fake decktracker stats or something, why would I even bother to take the time to do that I'm too lazy. I hit the meta right and queued into good match ups and posted the results with a small guide. I'm not a streamer trying to get fame or something, and I won't give out my battletag for proof because I don't want random friend adds.
I've since moved on from this deck, use this deck as a base or something hope it helps.
1) these decktracker stats can be changed
2) there are no proof of this deck having a 84% winrate
3) even though i dont think a human being can go this low, there is no proof of you actually hitting legend this season
4) incosistencies between stats and title with the lack of battletag makes me feel like you're just making these up.
Just for the lolz XD
ty you made my day
I consistently run into issues playing Reno in this deck. There is always some card that I can't fish out and in that situation Alexstrasza generally won't heal enough to save me. So I just get roasted with no other heal.
Been running it nicely. Sometimes Reno doesn't work, but he's only one card, I've been viewing it as an alternate win condition. Normally this just plays as a typical freeze mage with higher upside.
i play reno in handlock and i only have 5 cards that duplicate, and there are so many times i have reno in hand and cant play him simply cuz i havent drawn 1 or 2 cards from the deck.... and bear in mind that this is handlock we are talking abot that has draws for days. So when i see decks like this which includes reno, the 1st thing i look at is the number of duplicates and compare with the number of draw power and quite honestly, i dont see him having enuff draw power to match A. Having Reno in hand whilst having drawn/thinned the cards or B. Thinning the cards in the 1st place. Arcane intellect and those 3 1 of draws just dont cut it.
on a second note i guess ur stats prove otherwise. 74.4%
The reason why this deck doesn't usually work is because you don't draw to the bottom fast enough. You get Reno then you still have a duplicate on the bottom of the deck that takes it out - so I recommend trying to replace all the doubles, possibly with more healing / blocking.
You can drop the 2nd Iceblock and Arcane Intellect for other cards, stuff like Antique Heabot and Duplicate work well enough, I also dislike the 2nd Blizzard over an Explosive Sheep as it's straight up unnecessary.
How much did you pay for wintrading?
lolz +1
love the deck, i use a different version though using malygos and no torch or cone of the cold. once you get emperor to tick your lances and 1 frostbolt just 1 time its game over. either 36 or 28 damage. i run duplicate as well and if you can dup either archmage, emperor, or doomsayer your opponent is forced to change all strategies....
Not really no other battlecries, Reno is the big heal.
Any replacements for bloodmage thalnos?
is playing 1 ice block enough? i am thinking of switching it for vaporize to catch ppl off guard..
Often need the second ice block to pull off alexstraza into nukes, although it could work Reno sometimes acts as another ice block. Not sure if vaporize is the secret you're looking for, with mad scientist pulling it out randomly, and the paladins it'll often kill weak creatures.. I could honsetly see spellbenders working right now though.
So, this deck inspired me to take the Try Hard to the max level.
I ended up writing a HearthStone-Deck-Tracker Plugin:: https://github.com/jdonohoo/RenoTime
Plugin is in a very very very raw rough draft form, but it works.
