Who am i? (None of your business )
So my name is Jaco, a 3x legend player (I know is not that much) that absolutely loves Grim Patron Im from spain, so sorry for my mistakes writing this guide
Wow, this deck just reached the frontpage! Thank you all guys, I really appreciate it, guide in coming! :D
Deck:
Since the nerf of Warsong Commander people has thought that patron warrior is dead, but I'm here to prove it's not, I got legend yesterday with this patron deck (no Warsong Commander nor Frothing Berserker)
It's a more control-ish version of the deck which runs cards like Grommash Hellscream and Dr. Boom
Legend proof:
¿How to play the deck?
I dont really have that much time right now, so I'll write a guide whenever I reach some likes in this deck :)
-10 likes: Mulligan guide
-50 likes: Deck guide
-100 likes: Video guide
Mulligan:
-Against combo druid: Since druid has a pretty bad way to deal with multiple patrons you wanna keep Fiery War Axe for a possible early Darnassus Aspirant, and you also want Death's Bite, Inner Rage and Grim Patron that way you can get 4 patrons at turn 5, which is usually a game winning play against druid.
-Against tempo mage: You want to always get a way to deal with an early Mana Wyrm so you probably want Fiery War Axe, you also want Acolyte of Pain and Armorsmith
Against face hunter: Fiery win axe, Unstable Ghoul and Armorsmith, you may also want to keep Slam to deal with Knife Juggler and Cruel Taskmaster to deal with Leper Gnome or Worgen Infiltrator
-Against handlock: You may want cards like Piloted Shredder, Death's Bite and Acolyte of Pain, you may probably want to keep Execute just if you are sure it's handlock, BUT DON'T EXECUTE THE FIRST THREAT HE PLAYS.
-Against secret paladin: You want Fiery War Axe or Slam, Unstable Ghoul or Whirlwind to deal with early aggresion
-Against warrior: You just want the same cards like against Druid with addition of Acolyte of Pain
Guide:
So here we go with a little guide on how to play the deck, as you know with the Warsong Commander nerf we wont be able to do 30+ dmg to face in one turn by charging Frothing Berserkers. So our main goal of the deck is to overwhelm your opponent with multiple patrons that it's impossible for him to deal with.
Early Game:
Pretty much like the old patron or control warrior, you just try to estabilize the board control with weapons and draw some cards. Depending on the match up you want to use your cards in one way or another, for example against face hunter is fine to Slam a knife juggler just to kill it, while against some other control matchup you may be wanting to use it as a card draw and Execute activator.
Mid Game:
Basically between turns 4 to 6 we want to get patrons on the board, Death's Bite turn 4, Grim Patron + Inner Rage turn 5, and just go face or a minion with the weapon to spawn 5 patrons and keep snowballing from that point. Patrons are basically your win condition, so try to play around AoE as much as you can afford.
You also want to keep dropping minions, since mid game is where this deck works better, you also have minions like Piloted Shredder if you cant combo patrons, its just up to you.
Late Game:
You just try to finish off the game with powerful cards like Dr. Boom and an enraged Grommash Hellscream and keep applying pressure with patrons.
Replacements:
Many of you have been asking about replacements, so there you go:
Harrison Jones: This card is actually pretty meta-dependant, so if you aren't facing that many weapon classes you may want to swap him with Loatheb or even a 2nd Sludge Belcher
Grommash Hellscream: Unfortunately there is no real replacement for grommash, he is a very powerful card with a unique effect, you may want to swap him with Ragnaros the Firelord but it will NEVER be the same, so my recommendation is you to craft it asap.
Emperor Thaurissan: While thaurissan is a card with a very powerful effect, its not really necessary as many of you have said on the comments, I just run it because I love the card and works great, but you can try swapping him with Sylvanas, it's up to you.
Thx so much for watching this deck, dont forget to spam "Heh, greetings" emote when playing the Grim Patron
This deck is insane! Climbed from rank 4000 to this, and still climbing! https://gyazo.com/843af5fa644ace39d4cba8ba5fe716f2
Congratulations!
I suggest cutting one Battle Rage ,1 Fiery War Axe, 1 Dread corsair and add in tougher minions.
This deck is absolutely amazing! I don't have Harrison so I use Loatheb, and it works really well. Thanks so much dude for this deck! :)
replacent harrison?
Loatheb
this deck is awesome, lost one and then won 4, got me better rank than i've ever had :)
dont have boom or harrison so playing with brawl and gorehowl instead, working great as replacment's.
Thanks a lot! We miss the cancer deck cause who doesn't like Patron warrior.
So this is basically a crap half-control half-midrange deck with gromash as a finisher. Seems very inconsistent to me, but like with anything else if you grind hard enough you can get legend with it, I give it a 3/10
I tried it.
Not the guy above but yeah whatevs.
I mean I know one has to be super positive about even the smelliest turds to get lots of +1's (cos they are important right?) but this deck loses to all the usual suspects such as secrets paladin and dragon priest.
Essentially its a nice quirky non meta deck that will get you to legend if you grind all month. Like many others out there. But the winrate that I get with it is something akin to 40% tops. (Whereas the winrate I get with a normal CW deck is in mid 60's to 70's)
If you have a winrate at 40% you will have a really hard time getting to legend, no matter how much you grind. Because you lose more than you win.
A valid point sir.
I am sure though with plenty of practice this would do the usual 51% winrate. Especially if the player is at all competent :) (I'm implying that I'm not naturally)
I was actually wrong about my earlier comment, the idea of the deck is great!
I honestly don't think you need to run dread corsair, slam or even thaurrisan. The main combo seems to be the turn five patron play so thaurissan just seems a bit irrelevant. I've been running defender of argus over the dread corsair and have been having fantastic results. I think slam is just outclassed by other warrior removal such as shield slam or cruel task. Great deck though, and I like the concept. Keep up the good work!
Well I can See one big problem with this deck. If your opponent have board control, He will not have a hard time dealing with the patrons. But they are effective to make the opponent to react on the board instead of dealing damage to the face. But If you are able to keep the board clean until the patrons are on the table, then it can be hard to deal with. It is more balanced than before, and is now more easy to deal with. But it have also become harder to play.
After Playing 10 Games with 6 win 4 loss, at rank 7 EU, I would say this: The deck require Practice, and skills I have yet to gain. You need to know when the time is for a push. You cant really play it as control, but should be played more like a midrange, But you cant always play it as midrange. This deck is more about knowing when to play it like this, and play it like that. Not all is able to change Tactics, in the middle of a game, but you kinda have to with this one. And therefore it needs a lot of practice, And is not friendly to Non Legend players.
Really effective deck, on a crazy winstreak through 14 to 6 on N/A...
Only change was - Harrison + Loatheb, haven't seen as many other Warriors compared to the start of the season.
"sorry for my mistakes writing this guide"
So you're saying writing this guide was a mistake? xP
Well i'm still running Frothings because its good against some matchups, specially druid.
Edit: Also just won game against control warrior with Frothings dealing 28 dmg.
Someone just used this exact deck against me, and the whole game I thought to myself:
"Why is Grim Patron in Control Warrior?"
Now I know what the hell is going on.
I don't know about 5 rank and better but where I'm at it's working rather well... gave it a try fully expecting to come back here explain the steps of grieving a loss, not the case, well done on the deck, I like it.
