A different dragon priest deck, wich includes my favorite card Malygos !
Here some guide and game play videos for all of you, that will try this deck.
Mulligan:
Twilight Whelp, Northshire Cleric, Wyrmrest Agent, Power Word: Shield
Strategy
This deck is pretty lose to the standart dragon priest deck. You playing it as a dragon priest, but the biggest advantage for you is the element of surprise. Nobody expects that the priest will have some burst dmg, especially when playing with dragons. That's why very often your enemy will be getting on low health (especially those with weapons) and you will get the chance to finish him/her with Malygos + some agressive spell combo. To do this you must use your Emperor Thaurissan very, very wisely ! Also you must control the board, play some tempo minions and slowly, but surely get your opponent down to low health and than finish him with Malygos. Very often you will win without the dragon, but with 10 dmg with 2 x card]Mind Blast[/card] and some minions is a powerful chance to close the game.
When to Emperor Thaurissan ?
Aways use Emperor Thaurissan when you got Malygos in hand, or at two of the following cards: Mind Blast or Holy Smite. My advice is vs control and when possible keep your coin in hand, if have good mana curve. The Dream is Malygos, Mind Blast, Mind Blast in hand, but that's a rare case. Usually, you will use Emperor Thaurissan is Malygos + Mind Blast.
There is aways a possibility to just do not draw well and be blown... Well that's happens with all the control/combo decks, so playing/muligan right will increase your chance to win!
Cards subs:
I wanna clarify - I do not like replacements. But for those, who are missing 1 or max 2 non essential cards, I give some opportunities.
Chillmaw - this is a great way to deal with aggro decks and patron warriors. Well, if you do not have this card, just put some another dragon, the best options is Chromaggus
Alexstrasza - she is used mostly to to bring your opponent on 15, than use the Malygos combo. In some cases Alexstrasza will save your life. For me it's very important card and the deck will be not the same. Anyway use some other big dragon instead of her, also Dr. Boom, Ragnaros the Firelord.
Sylvanas Windrunner - hard to replace, because she saves boards very often. Anyway you can use Loatheb instead of her.
Twilight Guardian - best option is Twilight Drake, but not so good overall for the deck
Blackwing Corruptor - best is Sludge Belcher, but you lose the 3 dmg effect.
Malygos - Prophet Velen, but it is not a dragon :(
Irreplaceable: Emperor Thaurissan, Azure Drake,
Final thoughts
This deck is fun to play, capable of laddering and most important - you play with Malygos. The gameplay is close to the TGT dragon priest, but you have to play it very careful, because one little mistake will cost you the game (like wrong Emperor, mulligan, etc). Thanks for everyone that spent his time reading this and for those who will try it - GOOD LUCK !
Game Play video (season 21)
I like this deck, after playing around with it though it has 1 glaring problem for me, it's heavy in combos with to few activators in my opinion. The lack of Lightbomb for clutch board clears at endgame is sad but manageable anyhow. Personally I think it would be a solid choice to swap out SW:P because this deck handles early game fairly well if the RNG isn't taking a huge dump on you, and also a Dark Cultist to make room for Chromaggus(Another activator/removal bait + nice way to draw a double Mindblast, SW:D, etc.) and a Lightbomb to help out in the late game if needed. I just think Chromaggus buys you another turn to put together Lethal if needed at the very least.
I did however swap in 2 Silence because troubles on the ladder, found it to be super helpful to have that and still maintain tempo with it costing 0, I rarely find it as a dead card in hand where in other decks I find myself making the hard choice of Silence a scary minion or trying to gain board control.....priest I love you for not making me have to make those hard decisions.
Yea no problem, I mostly put the Silence in strictly because of Control Warrior so their armor wouldn't get to out of control to handle.
Any way to fit a Lightbomb? In case you lost the board hard while waiting for the Malygos and the combo cards
Edit: I'll try it at home just to change a little bit from the usual Dragon Priest and for the surprise effect in ranked. Thanks!
Wow thanks for the post and nice guide as well! I found this deck from your post on liquidhearth. I really like Dragon Priest but I always felt like I'd get to the end and lacked a quick finisher. Usually ended up having to just wait for Ysera to give me something good to finish the game, and sometimes I'd just outright die trying to finish off the opponent. I'm gonna give this deck a try, looks like its a good one.
