This deck has now reached/received it's last, final changes and has now reached Legend rank and beyond. I want to personally thank everyone who helped with all the amazing feedback, videos and live streaming.
Thank you.
This deck is the most fun and enjoyable experience I've had in Hearthstone since pre-nerf changes in beta. This deck has everything a person wants that's looking for a efficient deck that can reach legend and above but most importantly, to have fun while doing so.
The RNG always mixes the deck up and you'll never know what type of game you'll have next time you play and yet it stays efficient even if so.
- Mulligan: Deck is mainly tempo so keep any early board control card or early board presence cards. Same applies for any type of match-up. [Mana Wyrm, Frostbolt, Unstable Portal, Mad Scientist, Sorcerer's Apprentice and even Flamewaker if you have coin]
- Combos: There are several combos within the deck. [Mana Wyrm + Spell, Rhonin + Archamge Antonidas and any type of Spell Damage,Flamewaker + Any spell, Effigy with any board presence and much more]
- Lategame: Rhonin combined with Archmage Antonidas should be a secure cycle for power and reach, for those control match-ups. Effigy with high cost drops combines extremely well. Nexus-Champion Saraad can win games alone if left un-checked.
- Cards to switch for meta Tech: If needed to swap/remove some cards for a different meta.[ Counterspell, Piloted Shredder and/or Polymorph. Polymorph is an excellent counter vs Secret decks and about every other high threat minion in the game of course so I would suggest, if needed, to remove it last. A cuple of tech changes could be i.e Replacing Counterspell with a Duplicate and replace any number of Piloted Shredders for Sludge Belcher or Antique Healbot. Low mana curve tech works as well, Flamecannon as an example. Some additional substitutes for Piloted Shredders are both Water Elemental and Mechanical Yeti. Those are both excellent cards and should be considered on equal footing as Shredders. It's more about your personal taste and playstyle.]
- Replacement: If your missing something like i.e Rhonin, look above and fill that slot with a tech card of your choice or something to fill the decks combination slot. And if you're brave enough or want to add a bit more "flare" to the RNG "fun" aspect, Spellslinger. Keep in mind, replacing to many cards makes it a different deck. Arcane Blast can be replaced by either Flamecannon or another Arance Missiles There is nothing wrong with running two Arcane Blasts if you prefer those over above suggestions.
NEW
- LoE: Since some questions and further interests has appeared I just want to make this clear. This deck is beyond a month old and as you know, a month is hearthstone is a lifetime in meta changes. The deck still does fairly well on ladder but I've done some minor changes to the current version I'm playing personally. I will list the bellow but I wont change it in the list, because of the decks age there is no reason to do so. Once again it reached legend ranks with these adjustments.
- 2 Fireball / +2 Forgotten Torch
- 2 Azure Drake / +2 Ethereal Conjurer
Good Luck and Have Fun!
((If you have any questions post bellow and I'll do my best to answer them, be sure to read through the comment section before you do and see if your question has already been answer through another comment, thank you.))
Krisofesarus was kind enough to do a deck spotlight for this deck, check it out bellow and be sure to leave him a follow as well(this video plays the 1.0 version, the deck is in final version 1.1 as of now). :)
Subbed Ronin for maly and arcane blast for missiles. having tons of fun. oh an nexus for emperor (helps with antonidas and maly combos.)
I'm considering sylvanas for emperor though, might give more value.
Love this deck. Replaced Rhonin with Ragnaros. Thanks for making it.
I run mine a little different but its literally the same kind of deck/concept and most cards are the same. Just wanted to say it was 50/50 for me with it around ranks 10-5 i messed with it occasionally, but once i got into legend using something else then switched back to this because its so fun i went on an undefeated streak with it and still am. So if anyones struggling with it like i was but LOVES how fun the deck can be then maybe just try switching it up until you get to a rank where this is going to work more with the meta and then play it! I had to change decks like 4 times between ranks 10 to legend over meta, and this and a hunter deck i play went from like me getting stomped at rank 10 to undefeated with them in legend.
Anyways yea if your stuck thats my advice, because this deck is awesome and if you have to switch definitely give it another try at higher ranks when the meta shifts again.
Hello ExpertgamerHB!
Thanks, that was an enjoyable read and glad we share the same love for Nexus-Champion Saraad. I'm glad to see that the deck turned out to be such a flexible deck for tech choices and so on. Those are some cool tech choices and I'll be sure to try em' out in the future once I get time.
Glad you enjoy it and I wish you luck on the ladder ExpergamerHB!
I took your suggestion except:
-1 Mirror Image
+1 Mechanical Yeti.
It synergizes with Archmage Antonidas and typically trades better than the Azure Drake would. Good suggestions though. I think two Azure Drake, Sorcerer's Apprentice and Piloted Shredder are too much and they're not great board control minions due to low health.
Hi RedhellGG
I don't think Bloodmage Thalnos has a place in the deck, but what I get from your message is that you really like to play with him in your decks. You're looking for a suitable card to replace and want to know what's good to replace for it if so(?), I would say replace 1 Azure Drake if you want to run Thalons.
Good Luck RedHell! I hope that helped you.
Not sure if this was answered within the 100+ comments, but why don't we have Mirror Entity in this deck?
Hi Bankshots21!
Mirror Entity is a viable tech choice by trading it out for Counterspell. However I settled down with Counterspell to play around the more popular decks on the ladder and usually gives instant value, were Mirror Entity can mess you up or strait out lose you the game. By all means though, if you feel more comfy playing MI do so. :)
Good luck Bankshots.
I've tried other mages but none work as well for me and are as fun as this one. Excellent deck. Maybe I can hit legend with it too =D
Hey Bibikis,
I just wanted to thank you for the deck. This is my first month/season ever on Hearthstone and I've been focusing exclusively on Mage. I had a similar deck but frankly it wasn't as FUN. Folks may argue that other decks are better (and they could even be correct) but I think fun is important also so when I found it, I decided to give it a try. I'm up to rank 11 at the moment (goal is to get to 10 or better by end of month).
The only change I recently made (and am evaluating) is swapping a Mirror Image in for one of the Arcane spells because I was hitting a lot of aggro decks which killed my early game. I found that it let me buff the Mana Wyrm early while protecting it from an aggro warrior or hunter. Sometimes could do the Wyrm on turn 1 and then Sorcerer's Apprentice + Coin+ Mirror Image + FrostBolt (if needed to clear a minion) on turn 2. Then I am sitting there with reduced spells and a Wyrm with 4 attack who is protected from the opponent's weapon... pretty much a killer start. Thougts? Obviously I am describing an ideal scenario but it also serves the purpose of a late game spell to trigger Archmage and sometimes those extra Taunts can really mess us the counter plan as well if they only have a big minion on the board and not spells...
---
In the vein of FUN, I had the following end game happen which was awesomely fun (thanks to the RNG of getting a non-mage legendary) - obviously helped that he misplayed (especially in hindsight):
Playing against a control deck who has full 30 HP and a couple of high powered minions up and I have a dead board... we are up to 10 mana... I have Rhonin and Archmage Antonidas in my hand.
I play: (8) Rhonin and (2) Mad Scientist
He uses minions to kill Mad Scientist -> Effigy becomes active
He kills Rhonin...
I get the three Arcane Missles...
AND then Effigy gives me "Prophet Velen" - Double the damage of your spells. LOL.
Goes to my turn. I draw Sorcerer's Apprentice! Lol.
Ok.
Play (2) Sorcerer's Apprentice and Archmage Antonidas. Now I have three (0) Arcane Missiles cost spells which wipe out his minions - and each one gives me a fireball spell that is now worth (12). LOL.
He kills off Archmage Antonidas minions but I am sitting with with three (3) costs fireballs which do 36 damage for the win...
Hi Mittelhauser!
That's a great read, it's exactly what I was aiming for while making the deck. Fun moments that are also powerful enough to advance you further into the game.
Glad you like it Mittel and I hope you get more awesome games like that. :)
Hi there,
I was using quite a similar deck with Nexus which I agree is a really powerful and fun card to play.
But I had lots of problems with aggro decks, so I don't see how using Rhonin, which I don't have, could help, as it is even slower.
What are your stats against aggro decks (Hunter, Paladin, Warlock) ? You are not even using Mirror Images, which I found very useful to stop initial threats and protect your early minions from weapons
I love this kind of deck, so I'm just trying to find viable ways to play it in the current meta.
Thanks for sharing your deck
Hi Xxuss!
I unfortunately don't have my 100% playthrough statistics with the deck, but I do fairly well against any type of aggro. You have to play and mulligan for you early drops if you suspect it's an aggro deck you're up against. It's the same for all the games almost always though, I mentioned what to do in the mulligan notes above. I hope they'll help. If you don't like or have Rhonin, tech it for something you feel comfortable playing.
Good luck Xxuss!
im also running maly an doing well with him but i just crafted him couple days ago havent really found a deck to fit him in cept for maybe freeze
Is it worth crafting rolling?
Hi LiquidDragon!
Those are all viable tech choices as them seam to suit your play style very well.
Glad you like it and thanks for the feed back. Good luck Liquid.
I feel like this is leaning way more torwards control, than tempo. So cards like mana wyrm, sorc apprentice and flamewaker feel out of place.
Replacing wyrms for chows, flamewakers for spellslingers and sorc apprentices for potentially flame cannons would probably be better. Gonna try it.
It didn't work better.
But I do feel like the deck is a bit slow in the current meta. I was able to hit rank 3 with it, but as soon as I did I lost from 3 and 1 star to 5 and 0 stars. and now stuck at 5.
Would you rec'd crafting Nexus-Champion Saraad? I'm running Emperor Thaurissan in that slot right now instead. I opened a golden Aviana in a pack, but it's too hard to set up/live long enough have her work consistently, so I'm thinking about dusting her.
Thanks again.
Yes, Aviana is a trash card right now. I'm sure in the next upcoming expansions, she will be more useful but paying 9 mana for a 5/5 isn't worth it to make your minions only cost 1. Now maybe if you got lucky and your starting hand had 2 Wild Growth and Nourish which would put you at 9 mana on turn 5 then yes, but as of now, it's just isn't worth that much RGJesus.. Disenchant her! lol
As far as Crafting Nexus-Champion Saraad, this deck doesn't rely to heavy on it. Whether you draw it or you don't, it's not going to affect the game that much unless you got bad ass spells. Emperor Thaurissan is a viable replacement because at least you know it is a guaranteed -1 cost to your minions. So I wouldn't recommend crafting it unless you really really want to..
UPDATE!! Nexus-Champion Saraad is by far the most OP card ever and I recommend you craft it immediately. This card is insane, I had my doubts and boy was I wrong. It literally adds so much to the synergy of the deck. I've gotta Unleash the Hounds, Force of Nature, Explosive Trap, Divine Spirit, and even a Pyroblast, all which won me the game. I was so naive and forgot how powerful specific class spells were. There is literally no spell I got that I couldn't use and didn't give me an advantage in some way. CRAFT HIM!
Sounds good. And I can add him to my Dragon Shaman & Inspire Warrior and maybe even some others.
Thanks!
