Hey guys and welcome to this deck guide! I personally love playing Priest since I started due to his position as an "underdog". Since the release of The Grand Tournament this changed drastically with the introduction of Dragon Priest! Don't understand me wrong I really like Dragon Priest, I laddered with it a lot and even wrote a guide about it, but I am really sad that the normal control priest I played before disappeared almost completely!
So today I am going to present you a deck by Zetalot (know Priest Player) which he used to ladder in legend and also achieved #1 Legend in his stream with this deck!
This deck is a standard control priest like it was used before TGT, spiced up with some additions from TGT, which makes this deck extremely fun to play and ladder with!
WARNING
This deck is not a easy pickup deck! You really need time to get used to play it correctly, but if you do it is really fun and rewarding to play! I would recommend watching Zetalots stream because he does a great job explaining every turn! And of course practise, practise, practise... and dont give up after losing your first few games!
Have Fun!
This deck tries to handle the early aggressions of Face Hunter or Secret Paladin with cards like Northshire Cleric, Zombie Chow and Wild Pyromancer!
Then you have Injured Blademaster combined with Circle of Healing (or Light of the Naruu/Flash Heal) to gain tempo in control matchups. In those matchups you can also use Thoughtsteal as a card draw! A Holy Championon turn 4 you can start pressuring the enemy and forcing out removals!
For the board clear you have the Auchenai Soulpriest + Circle of Healing combo, Holy Nova and a Lightbomb! You can also use Wild Pyromancer with one of your many cheap spells to wipe smaller boards!
Auchenai Soulpriest is really important in this deck, because it gives you so much burst if combined with your hero power, Light of the Naruu and even Zombie Chow.
In the late game you have two Cabal Shadow Priest (combo well with your Shrinkmeister to steal Yseras :D) , Justicar Trueheart to gain more survivability in the late game and also game extra burst with Auchenai Soulpriest. Sylvanas Windrunner is used to steal enemy minions (is a Mindcontrol with Shadow Word: Death) and in the absolute late game you have Confessor Paletress and Ysera!
To remove threatening enemy minions you have Voi'jin and one Shadow Word: Death.
Aggro
Aggainst Face Hunter, but exspecially aggainst Paladin, Northshire Cleric does give you a huge advantage, because you can draw alot while Paladin can't deal with it until turn 3-4. In other matchups keep Northshire Cleric, but only play it along with Power Word: Shield.
Zombie Chow is your second and maybe the best answer to all types of aggressive decks! You should always keep it!
Next on the list is Wild Pyromancer which can clear aggressive boards easily if you have some cheap spells in your hand.
If you are aggainst Zoo or Mech Mage, Auchenai Soulpriest combined with Circle of Healing can be kept in your hand too, exspecially if you have the coin.
Control
Aggainst Paladin keep Northshire Cleric because you can draw alot while Paladin can't deal with it until turn 3-4. In other matchups keep Northshire Cleric, but only play it along with Power Word: Shield.
You also want to keep Injured Blademaster with Circle of Healing to put so much pressure on your opponent!
You can also keep Holy Champion!
Holy Champion: This card is really effective in this deck, but you can easily replace Thoughtsteal if you are facing too much control decks!
Vol'jin: This card is really important in this deck but you could use Shadow Word: Death instead
Zetalot did swap those two cards very often! Confessor Paletress is really interesting and underrated! I know many people think it is too inconsistent (also Zetalot replaces it sometimes) but I really love this card: You are putting a 5/4 on the board and the enemy HAS to deal with it (or he probably loses) AND a big legendary the enemy also HAS to deal with! So your opponnent often has only a way to deal with one and not with both this card is so great and can easily win you the game! Ysera has a much slower way to win you the game, but is most of the time more consistent, but she can also screw you up really hard by giving you a Laughing Sister vs an aggro deck!
Overall Confessor Paletress is better in aggressive matchups because you heal yourself and you put more pressure immediately on your opponnent while Ysera is better in control matchups! If you dont have any of those you may try any other late game legendarys! Maybe Chromaggus?
The mighty 3 mana slot! Zetalot uses this often as the teck slot! You can use Deathloard to stop aggressive decks, Acolyte of Pain for a more consistent card draw or Thoughtsteal if you are up aggainst many control decks!
Dr. Boom: This card is op! The only reason not to use it is because this deck dodges Big Game Hunter completely so if you want to include it you should probably use some more Big Game Hunter targets.
Harrison Jones/Acidic Swamp Ooze: I think Acidic Swamp Ooze is better in this deck because it simply adds a minion to you early game, so you can add one if you face too many weapon classes!
Justicar Trueheart: This is a great card to survive the late game or burst with Auchenai Soulpriest! It can be replaced with a Flash Heal for the same reasons!
15.09 Hey! We made it to the front page of Hearthpwn! Thanks for the support!
If you like it give +1 and write a comment!
If you find any grammar or spelling mistakes you can keep them, but please correct me if I make a mistake in the text! I haven't seen all of Zetalots livestreams and I am not the best player so there might be some... ;D
SW:Death is the closest you'll get. They each have their goods and bads. SW:Death is usually used to remove big minions. Voljin is used to remove troublesome minions. They aren't exactly the same, but often times big minions are troublesome minions...
Is vol'jin a girl?
No
I'm loving this deck. It's so easy to get Lightwardens and Holy Champions buffed up fast. Good card draw too.
I understand the want to be different, but so far I've been running the list and am finding it pretty sub par compared to Dragon Priest. At least in the matchups I've been facing. Including vs. Dragon Priest, which is a big surprise considering some of the removal that is there. I tend not to survive long enough to even make it to a Paletress play. I've watched his stream to see how he pilots the deck but it seems like I'm facing far more agro then he is. And I'm just not keeping up unless the draws are just right.
no dragons = no priest
Priest is so hard to play though. Dragon makes it simple for people, so I'm glad dragons are giving priest a boost because after Undertaker nerf, Priest has seen like zero play.
Zetalot said, only two people climb with priest: "the second is me on another account" -2015
Maybe its a stupid question.. ^^ but what could be a good replacement for confessor paletress? Guess sylvanas should be fine. I dont wanna wanna craft the new legendary now cause i'm not sure if its worth it. Greetings from germany. :)
I think Zetalot tries to dodge BGH, so I'm not sure Ragnarnos is so great, but decks have been cutting BGH...
I am using Sneed's Old Shredder, though the second shrinkmaster might have more early/mid game utility.
he is playing with the updated decklist now on his twitch.
Thoughtsteal is falling out of favor since the general idea is that one would rather draw cards that are already in your deck. For example, would a combo-heavy warrior deck like patron give two tosses about drawing random warlock spells? Not so much. If you figure that an Acolyte will draw an average of 1.5 cards (and leave a body), then it can actually work out well.
Plus, I have thoughtstolen poison and blade flurry at least twice. Not cool.
To add to this, Acolyte also has synergies with PW:Shield and healing things for Northshire Cleric, Lightwarden and Holy Champion, so a body is better.
I was watching him stream this deck a couple hours ago and cut the ooze and 1 lightbomb for 2 acolyte of pain.
at 3:41:23 you see him make the change.

Added 2nd lightbomb and acidic swamp ooze, needs update ;) ty for posting though
any ideas on what the mulligans should look like?
