I originally created this deck when TGT was released, but stopped playing it until recently. After picking it up again, I realized just how good it really is. I removed the previous matchup guide and card descriptions because they are outdated. If you have any questions about the matchups, please feel free to ask in the comments. Also, due note my stats because this deck may not fit the meta you are facing. Over 38 games with this deck, I didn't queue into a single Hunter.
Stats & Legend Proof:
Is the Twilight Drake really worth it? I don't see the deck ever get that much of a big hand, especially of you're innervating out big stuff in the early game. Maybe a Volcanic Drake instead to drop after Swipe?
It was more about just being another 4-drop dragon to fill out the curve. The deck only runs six, and I just didn't find any better options. I'd tried higher costed ones, but they weren't as useful. Basically just Twilight Guardian #3. Maybe there'll be better options after the expansion.
Traded out the technicians, thalnos, starfall, twilight drake and one corruptor for Chromaggus, 1 nourish, 1 raven idol, 1 ancient of war and 2 wild growths.
Tried to take a more "ramp" approach to the deck, Been mildly succesful with it.
Edit: took out 1 wild growth, added thalnos, seems very valuable for the deck.
Hey, how has that worked for you? Raven Idol is a card I wanted to fit in, but just never got the chance. I think I tried running one Nourish before as well, and it was okay. Wild Growth is the one card I found to be pretty bad though, but that's from my experience. Technicians I could see replacing as even when you play them on curve, they aren't amazing. Good, but nothing crazy.
Glad to hear you added Thalnos back, he is indeed very strong in this deck.
Haven't played the deck for a while though as I'm just waiting for Standard to come out. How've your results been in the current meta?
Been playing it in ranks 15-13, I haven't been crazy succesful with it, managed to climb some ranks. Took out wild growth, raven idol and nourish since then, the deck's looking better without those. The additional win condition with Chromaggus seems to be working fine.
i dont have thalnos. can i put deathwing to replace?
You could give it a try if you'd like. I find card draw to be extremely necessary in the deck to ensure you don't get stuck with clunky spell or dragon-needers without the dragon hands. The spell power off Thalnos is also really good too. I'd suggest either Kobold Geomancer or maybe even a Gnomish Experimenter (I used to run one before).
Followed your link here. doesn't look bad at all. Although still concerned about early game. Anything not priest for dragon decks had issue with no strong 1 drop and the 2 drop tank plus corresponding buffs. Might take out loatheb starfall thalnos. Add maybe chillmaw? Druid of the claw? brann? Some cheaper tanks or clears?
Hey there, thanks for checking it out.
I know the deck looks like it lacks early game, but it strongly makes up for it with Keepers, Corrupters, and the amount of spells. You don't have to save Moonfires/Living Roots for combo pieces unless it's a slow matchup like Priest or Warrior. If you have the luxury to save them in other matchups, then by all means it's okay.
Innervate plays are disgusting with this deck, especially with Blackwing Corrupter. Where your early game curve lacks, Innervate 100% makes up for assuming you can draw it. If not, spells and efficient minions are your friend. There's plenty of draw power to the deck as well, so you often won't run out of steam.
Thalnos is great, Chillmaw was meh when I played him before, and just no space for DotC. I've considered trying Brann though. If you wanna give him a go, feel free to try. I wish Keepers counted as a battlecry haha.
Guys, can we seriously remove the Druid of the Claw given the agressiveness of the meta ?
I had to remove one innervate and one twilight drake to incluse these.
Your thoughts ?
Haven't played the deck much since the update, but I could see that working. However, I wouldn't recommend removing those cards. Innervates are super important, and the deck needs all the dragons in order to more consistently hold one. If I were to cut a card for Druid of the Claw, I'd drop Starfire for one.
Glad you like the deck. Ysera is great as well, though sometimes it's hard to have two 9-drop dragons. Perhaps it is indeed the right choice though. :)
Super fun deck! First game Malygos was my LAST card. Had a Moonfire and a Living Roots in my hand. Just enough damage to take down a heavily armored up Control Warrior.
I've played a little Malygos Druid in the past. I think Living Roots is a card that goes a long way toward making this deck viable. You can use a few of your direct damage cards to fend off minions and still have a few left over once Malygos drops to lay the smack down.
I also agree Twilight Drake is a good addition.
Kudos on the decks!
Hey there, thanks a lot for your feedback! As soon as I saw Living Roots, this was the deck I'd wanted to make. That one extra damage spell really does go a long way for this deck. While the combo isn't always your win condition, it is still there, and you aren't punished by running these cards either. Needing to use a Moonfire for tempo/removal is totally fine in most match ups, so you're rarely left with dead cards in your hand unless you have the Dragon Fan Club without any Dragons. :P
Played a bunch of games with the Twilight Drake addition. Very big improvement in consistency. Definitely would advise against dropping any of those 7 dragons from the list, as they are all very important.
Thanks! Definitely some room to experiment, but there are a lot of cards I'd consider core to the deck. Definitely don't play with the amount of dragons in it.
Pretty fun deck, I swapped out the twilight drake for Harrison in this meta.
I know that Gnomish is important card and you are happy to see it when u draw it. However, it might be beneficial to have one more dragon card that would automatically improve the likelihood of activating/improving 7 cards already in your deck. I am thinking of a twilight drake. Since this is not a regurgitate your cards kind of deck, I think it will frequently be played as a 4/5 or greater, which means it will have good value most of the time. Looking carefully at your entire deck list, gnomish inventor seems like the best choice to be substituted for the drake, which will hugely improve the overall value of a significant portion of the deck.
Hey there, that actually could be a great substitution to try out. I'll edit the deck list to include it, as I do agree having one more dragon could make a big difference. Twilight would indeed be fair, as the deck does sit on a lot of cards in hand usually.
Thanks for the suggestion; hope the deck works out well for ya!
Thanks for quick reply and I'm glad you think the idea has some merit. I will try out your deck with that change and see how it goes. Whether it works or not, I salute you for creative deck idea.
