Hey guys!
So, since the release of the new expension, I was really struggling to climb the ladder with all the big control decks like dragon priest, control Warrior etc. Knowing that I dont have a lot of the new cards, I decided to build a budget deck that could get me fast wins.
And what's best for that than face Hunter ! :D Here is my version of the deck, with some really cool new cards! Currently on a 10 win streak arround rank 7 so I'm pretty happy with the results so far!
I'll try to write a guide if I get 30+ like. Meanwhile, leave me your comments, suggestions, questions ... :) Enjoy!
Thank you all for the upvotes ! Since huntard doesn't really need a guide (remember: Trade? No. Face? Yes!), I'll put here my answers for common questions and my stats with the deck.
- Why Argent Horserider over Wolfrider ?
I just dont think the one extra damage on Wolfrider is worth it. Sometimes the divine shield allows you to attack face twice instead of one or forces the opponent to use more ressources to kill it.
- Do you miss Arcane Golem in the deck since that card is such a good finisher ?
I'm not a big fan of the card. Unless you topdeck it to finish the game, it's only going to ramp the opponent and help him to clear your board. I'd rather have more little sticky minions that can face a couple of times!
UPDATES
- Replaced the Hunter's Mark for another Kill Command since we already have 2 Owls.
- Replaced the 2 Brave Archer for 2 Argent Squire. Less situational and great combo with Lance Carrier!
- Replaced the Bear Trap for a Flare due to the insane amount of secret Pally on the ladder!
Thank you to Khristophesaurus for this gameplay video!
10 out 15 won thus far had to replace quick shot with glaivezooka due to no brm. glaivezooka falls in place decent due to the 2 damge and +1 minion buff.
I thus far have not had any luck using this version of face Hunter this young season. Maybe I've just gotten bad draws/luck so far, but I am 0-6 out the gate: at 18-19 rank I've lost in order to: warrior control, secret pally, warrior control, ramp/combo druid, totem shaman, warrior control.
the only game I maybe had a chance to win had a made one different move was the pally. The warrior and druid draws weren't even close. I expect to lose to warrior; trueheart is just a beast there. But I tend to think some of those games might have been won by subbing brave archer for the argent squire, and maybe one glave for something (kill command maybe, had a number of times I was without the beast to get that bonus) and several games where a third weapon draw could have helped.
I'll keep trying this version a bit longer where I'm at just to see how much I move back towards a winning mean.
So...much...taunt. Feels like every deck I play has some sort of buffed taunt by turn 4 preventing me from finishing them off and even with 3 removals I still never seem to have them when I need them. Probably just a run of bad luck but that's how TGT has been for me no matter the class it seems.
I have had better results, and significantly more fun, with beast hunter...try it, its fun
Started playing some games with a midrange almost tempo hunter and have had some really nice results. Kind of my own deck based off the #1 midrange hunter deck with different tech cards for what I seem to be facing a lot. But the core is solid and it has good curve. And with more control and clear to get pesky taunts out of the way.
I think you should keep 1 Hunter`s mark because it still can remove strong minions.
Playing a slightly different version than this and am moving right down the ladder. With the paladin games I've had I don't feel like Flare is even really necessary. Lance Carrier with either of the divine shield cards is sweet!
I have played Hunter last season and I would say that this is really a pretty bad deck for the current meta as the hunter deck relies on a steady trickle damage model to be effective. This means taunts, healing spells and armoring up are all bad news. The performance of the deck will take a spike after turn 6 if you do not reduce your opponent's health to less than 10, It is most likely you will top deck by then. Despite this, the mana distribution of this deck makes its performance very consistent. You will always have something to play for after turn 1, at least.
My build is rather different from this and yeah, I agree with the argent horse-rider addition because you want to keep as much damage sources on the board to accumulate that trickle damage. That is why the haunted creeper and argent squire are important in this deck.
Here is my take:
Priest - We are looking at the likes of new cards like Twilight Guardian and WyrmRest Agent at turn 4 and turn 2 for dragon priest. I haven't play anyone NOT using these cards this season. So unless your opponent is a complete moron, your experience will be like throwing eggs against a wall.
Warrior - You will lose most of the time against this even in the last season. Justicar Trueheart just make it harder with the +4 Armor ability. Since most of your summons have a attack power of less than 3, Grim Patron is going to cause a lot of pain if people are still playing it. Again, armor up is really your nightmare here as it negates your trickle damage.
Mage - Very good against mages. If your opponent uses Ice Block, place a Explosive Trap, reduce the mage to 2 or 1 health and wait for it to blow up. Secrets don't get triggered on their own turns. Flare works well.
Paladin - The current meta focuses on the Mysterious Challenger where tons of secrets are played. This only happen around turn 6. Other than that, the whole deck is packed with secrets and a couple of secret keepers. Do as much as you can before turn 6 and it should not be a problem. However, there is another Paladin meta which focus on the long haul. Those decks are packed with taunts like Sludge Bleecher, Tirion Fordring. Those are the problems. Again, a reliable draw of that Ironbeak Owl can solve all your problems.
Warlock - Always mulligan for a Ironbeak Owl for this opponent (you will need 2 to be safe) Keep facing and play the Ironbeak Owl to provide that last blow. Should be a easy win.
Hunter - 50-50. Depends on the draw.
Rogue - Should be straightforward. Try to finish it before turn 7.The rogue's kill zone is around turn 7.
Shaman - It should be straightforward as well. There are times where you need to remove some of the minions that can cause a lot more damage than you do.
WoW, you won on rank 17! SO LEGEND, SO AWESOME xD
I miss when everyone played face hunter and I got up to rank 5 with a troll healing paladin deck. I'm like the only one who likes it when it's just a face meta!
There is nothing Grand about Face hunter. Unless Cancer is something to be proud of all of a sudden?
Would it be ok too put in 2 x Leper Gnome instead of 2 x Argent Squire
What? There's already 2 Leper Gnome lol
Lol Sorry I'm a idiot and just read the list wrong :/
This deck has absolutely no reach! If you haven't won (or mostly won) by turn 5 you are toast.
ptdgames, you just have to remember the golden rule:
If the face plays taunt, me still go face!
what rank did u guys reached with this deck? atm max rank is 14 for me
Kolento lost on stream today against this version! :) He played Warrior control at rank 7!
As a fairly new player to hearthstone and newcomer all together to the hunter class, what classes pose the most trouble? I am reading control warrior, any others? Also should I just insta concede these matchups, or are they winnable? Thanks.
Big control decks like Handlock and Dragon Priest are really tough matchups. It IS possible to win if you get a little lucky but I'd say you will probably lose at least 4 games out of 5 against those. :/
