Hey guys Brooklyn here and I`m back to bring you the amazing Dragon Sage Deck! With a really nice Winrate of 72,9% and the simple fact that includes Dragons, you should definitly check it out and leave a 1+!
In deep thankfulness i want to mention here MarineKingHS who helped me alot with the final developing and testing in Legend Ranks! Visit me on twitch.tv/brookandlyn.
Concept
This deck is designed to win by establishing board control from early to mid-game and overwhelm your opponent with your high-value Minions. If you get dragged to the very late-game you have Cards like Ysera and Archmage Antonidas to finish the game. Depending on what you are facing there can be minor changes in the Decklist which will be explained in the Spoilers below but keep in mind, this is the standard Decklist on which Tech Cards are build around after.
- Season 16 - Dragon Sage - Instructional part 01 (Big Deck playa, overview)
- Season 16 - Dragon Sage - Instructional part 02 (vs Ramp Druid)
- Season 16 - Dragon Sage - Instructional part 03 (vs Demonlock)
- Season 16 - Dragon Sage - Instructional part 04 (vs Aggro Hunter)
- Season 16 - Dragon Sage - Instructional part 05 (vs Mech Shaman)
- Season 16 - Dragon Sage - Instructional part 06 (vs Mech Mage)
- Season 16 - Dragon Sage - Instructional part 07 (vs Midrange Hunter)
- Season 16 - Dragon Sage - Instructional part 08 (vs Tempo Mage)
- Season 16 - Dragon Sage - Instructional part 09 (vs Patron Warrior)
Legend Rank and Winrate
Mulligan Guide
You want always want to mulligan for 2x Mana Wyrm, 1x Zombie Chow, 1x Frostbolt, 2x Unstable Portal, 1x Nat Pagle, 1x Flamewaker and be agressive.
In addition, here are some mulligans you want to keep vs specific class:
- Against Mage and Hunter, you want to keep Kezan Mystic if you have included him, but always Acidic Swamp Ooze vs Hunter.
- Against Zoo you want to keep 1x Mind Control Tech.
- Against Paladin keep Flamewaker and/or Mind Control Tech.
- Against Rogue keep Acidic Swamp Ooze, Harrison Jones
- Against Handlock keep Big Game Hunter or Polymorph.
- Against Warrior keep Acidic Swamp Ooze, Flamestrike (if Patron), Harrison Jones.
Card explanations and replacements
- Unstable Portal - Raynad about UP : "A Card which in 90% of the cases instantly wins you the game". Sounds OK i guess and even if its 50% instant win, i`ll take it. Besides that it has Synergy with Archmage Antonidas and Flamewaker.
- Acidic Swamp Ooze - So since I dont run any Water Elementals and Harrison Jones shines best in control Matchups, but I already have quite good draw Mechanics, I prefer Ooze while facing more Hunter. If not, i would suggest Harrison Jones, because his body is stronger and you dont need to be that quick against every other Weapon Class.
- Echo of Medivh - Since this Deck heavily targets Board Control it is the ideal refiller for your Hand! Also it hase nice Synergy with Flamewaker, Mind Control Tech and Mana Wyrm.
- Nat Pagle - Oh that guy is back! He is not just a quite nice draw Engine, even if he ends up dying and being just a 2 Mana Shieldbearer, he absorbed 4 Damage for you and maybe even removals. Yes he can be replaced (Arcane Intellect, Bloodmage Thalnos) but you cannot go fishing then.
- Mind Control Tech - A 3/3 for 3 Mana isnt that good of course but he is the silent Star of this Deck. Nice Synergy with Hungry Dragon, dealing best with Zoo and Paladin and even Dr. Boom for example, makes him overall a pretty solid choice for the Deck. Remember, even if your Opponent doenst play more than 3 Minions all the time you are doing fine because of Hungry Dragon and the fact that Mage does very well against a small number of Minions!
- Toshley - Just a Boss. He deals with every common 5 and 6 Mana Drop, has the incredible Synergy with Flamewaker and Archmage Antonidas, isnt that vulnerable to silence and for the best Part, he kills Emperor Thaurissan. If you are missing him, use Sylvanas Windrunner and Sneed's Old Shredder or Dr. Boom for Archmage Antonidas.
- Fireball - Offers great reach and viable removal so it is a solid choice to include 1x of it. 2x is often a bit too much, especially when you are running also Big Game Hunter.
- Flamewaker - He took the place for Blackwing Technician. Not because they are particular stronger alone, but they have much better Synergy with the current List, are general stronger against Aggro Decks and if comboed, also against Control. A Echo of Medivh on Flamewaker against Control leads sometimes in a instant concede, but if you cant activate them with spells, they are weaker compared to Blackwing Technician. This is why they are both viable.
- Defender of Argus - This card provides great Synergy with your high Value Minions and Mind Control Tech. For me, I often switch between running 2x Sludge Belcher and no Argus or 1x of each. Replace him for Kezan Mystic, if you are running into a lof of Secret heavy Decks.
- Blackwing Corruptor - Fire Elemental for everyone! Sign me in! Absolutly a no-brainer in a Dragon Deck.
Anti aggro Guide!
As many people said they are having problems with aggro Matchups, I decided to go over the List again and considered what Points where actually good criticism and which where simply bullshit. Finally, I made some changes around the Deck which you hopefully find usefull.
These changes where made to acces a better early game and through this Board Control. In addition to that here are Cards I could also recommend for a better Aggro Matchup.
Feel free to add second those Cards for Kezan Mystic, if you dont need her. If this doesn`t suits you, iam maybe overasked here and you have to find your own Card, but in case the changes are still not enough for you, i advice you to stop playing this deck because it is likeley that you are not skilled enough.
If you want to improve, I have also some quick rules for you to to have a better stand in those Matchups.
- Mulligan always agressive and toss everything which doenst make this specific Matchup better
- If it is unlikely your Opponent will play more than 3 Creatures on turn 3/4, play your Mind Control Tech on Turn 3
- Clearing the Board with Spells is often better than putting in presence for yourself because if you can trade in your favour, it is likely that you can drag the game out and by doing that your chance of winning will increase dramatically
- Never keep a Dragon in Hand, even if you have Blackwing Technician
- If you have established Board Control with 2 or more Minions, consider playing Echo of Medivh
- Mulligan for Nat Pagle if you have him but never for Arcane Intellect
- Archmage Antonidas is absolutely great against Hunter
- Playing vs every aggro Deck, trading is a fine option, but vs Hunter dont trade, unless it is absolutely super tempting and at minimum almost perfect. Otherwise chose to go face!

Nice deck mate!! love it
Thank you so much!
See no reason to run Hungry Dragon on any deck it's purely a win more card that doesn't do much it's a +1/+1 yeti that gives your opponent more than a 1/1 most of the time soexcept having the dragon tag it's pretty lame in my opinion, just compare him to Pit Lord most of the time the 1 mana cost minion you give your opponent is gonna cause you more trouble than 5 damage to the face if you plan to combo at turn 7 with mind control tech.. then it's not really a 4 drop..
would like to know your insight on him please
Quick answer to sum all up, have you tried Twilight Drake? Its shit. If you want to try it, go on. In like 7 out of 10 Games Hungry Dragon is better.
Can combo with the dual mindcontrol tech's this deck is suppose to run.
So you are using a terrible card just cause it's a 4 mana cost dragon.. well that's the main flaw of dragon decks the actual dragons are terrible just use shredder I gurantee it's better and more consinstant if you beed to use hero power or a minion on board or even a spell to clear the minion just play dragonkin sorcerer cause he has more value at least.
or shredder.
the mind control synergy? it's a turn 7 play not a turn 4 then a 5/6 body at turn7 isn't that good. how often you manage to pull that combo though? I played hungry dragon most of the tine it did more harm than benefit.
hope the next dragons we will se will be actually good like azure drake at least.. we need a good 4 drop dragon but I doubt it will come out in the next 2 expansions since there are 2 4 drop drakes in BRM :/
Really enjoying this deck. I love it when a dragon deck actually works (since dragons didn't seem to take off like mechs did), and I love it when some unorthodox cards are successfully used in competitive decks.
My question lies with Mind Control Tech. Should you be greedy with playing it against aggro?
Depends. If the chance is small for you to get the Battlecry value at the next turn, play him on turn 3 for Board presence. I added a quick anti Aggro Guide and it may be worth taking a look into it.
As many have said, this deck is fun to play and the idea is new and different. It's not the same-old-same-old.
However, be prepared to lose matches purely to RNG (the deck isn't very stable). Your ability to win/lose depends HEAVILY upon your draws. You get a good draw, you'll have a pretty good game. You don't draw exactly what you need when you need it-- there's no coming back.
My advice would be to stay away from this deck if you want to rank up. Just because someone says it's a "legendary" deck doesn't mean that it will get you there. Not everyone has the time to play the needed 600 games in a season required for RNG to even out, and allow a deck like this to climb. Sorry... you get an A for being different, but a D+ for performance. And a negative mark for recommending people climb with this.
I feel similar to you. I have tried for another two days and same as previously, you either get yourself the best situation ever or the worst ever. There is rarely an in-between situation, where your decision/skill matters. When I get the upper hand there is absolutely no way to lose. There is also minimum chance to regain lost board control. But then, I kind of understand now why Nat Pagle is used. I have been using Bloodmage Thalnos all the time and that extra one card draw does not help much. You need to always have alot of cards in your hands to compensate when RNGesus is on the other side, it's the only way this deck can get you through those kind of situations. Still it feels sad because you are depending on more RNG to compensate for bad RNG.
So you are very correct when you say it "depends HEAVILY upon your draws". Still trying more this deck, it's quite a fun deck. Depends, I might really craft a Nat Pagle for this deck,
As much as i tried to understand your Point, I just cant do it. It appears as complete nonsense for me to say "Prepare to lose Matches to purely RNG" in a Card game. The Point on losing when you dont draw the exact Cards you need and having no coming back Options from that on is besides all that not even true and shows for me just, that you dont know how to play a Magedeck. Iam sorry, i dont want to offend you and others but this is just too likely than this deck beeing just bad with a outstanding performance which got tested by several good Players.
Dont get me wrong, I`m not just here to disagree with you, i made my thoughts about it and therefore i changed the List for a better aggro Matchup for you all and made on top of that a quick Guide about it.
My answer to Victory28 does also count for you. In addition to that, have you ever tried Arcane Intellect? It is a pretty worthy sub for Nat Pagle.
I am not a very good Mage player but I want to know exactly how good do you need to be to know how to use this deck? I suppose it won't be Legend right, coz then it will be funny :0
I am only a rank 9 player with so am I actually using the wrong deck at the wrong time? I had quite a lot of success with Firestorm deck, will that be more suitable for me?
I do actually, have been ranking up in the past few days using exclusive this deck only. Just at a rather slow pace at around 1 rank per 2-3 days.
I have to tend to agree with the above post. The deck is innovative and fun to play, but not very competitive on the ladder. I took a minor variation of the deck from rank 20-14 then with rng and bad matchup a back to 17. In close to 30 games I have only a 40% win rate vs a 70% with a mech Mage deck I built. Zoo seems to give me the most trouble currently when playing this deck.
i didn't give this deck a + or minus due to its innovation and I love the concept of dragons decks... Sadly blizzard f'ed up black rock and their claim of revolutionary new meta fell way short making dragons a neat gimmick at best. Kudos on the dragon sage deck idea and keep inspiring because this game is about innovation, creation and fun.
Take a look at the New added Guide, it should solve your problems. There is absolutly no way Aggro Matchups will remain on a negative winrate after some adjustments.
Please take a look at the Guide, aswell into the new added anti Aggro one!
You can reach Top100 Legend with it, if thats competitive enough for you. You wont improve your early game without killing the rest of this deck since it does not use Mad Scientist or Secrets. If you have proper Ideas of improving the early game seriously by maintaining the decks concept and Dragon core, feel free to let me know!
reach 100 legend? bull more like play it once you're in legend ranks. trying to climb the ladder with this deck is a total waste of time
You can reach Top100 Legend with a lot of decks. The thing is, those others will do it much faster. It's understandable to be proud of a deck you created, but that's no reason to sound condescending to those who don't agree that's it's an amazing deck. Play nice.
