Here is the deck, i used to reach rank 1 legend this season.
If this gets +50, i'll post matchup details and a guide.
I'll post matchup details and guide in couple hours.
It was designed to be a midrange combo deck, that can race against aggro decks and outfast control ones. It's good against other combo decks, since you get your combos faster, that your opponents. Try to remember that, while playing and always ask yourself, how can you lose the match and how can you win the match.
Cards, that i feel to explaine:
Emperor - DON'T, just don't play this card in rogue, if you are not stupid.
Sabotage
A cheap combination of assasinate and ooze, that requires combo activation.
Q: What match-ups does it improve?
A: It's great vs Patron (on the second Death Bite). It's awesone against Handlock, if you sabotage their's first drage or giant - you are 90% likely to win. I have never lost to handlock after sabotaging first giant. It's also ok vs hunter, shamans and paladins. It's also good against druids after you get tempo advantage. Sometimes it can be used against stealthed minion (shade, Antonidas, etc.).
You have to understand, that this card CAN be match-deciding, and that's why i put it in.
Dr.Boom
There are to reasons, i don't play it:
1. I don't want to give opponent bgh value.
2. This card cad win you a match if ONLY you are in a SMALL disadvantage. If you are in lead, you can win without it, if you are behind on the board against face hunter, dr.boom won't help you.
You can play it, if you face a lot of control warriors or if you feel a need of another turn before you get your sprint.
Edwin:
A typical winmore card. Edwin will never win you a match, except of freezemage or a mirror. It will catch opponent's owls, bghs, executes etc. Piloted Shredder is much better for me.
Shredder:
Your bred and butter against pretty much all the classes. Deals ton of damage, not easy to remove.
If you play Coin - Shredder into second one, you are a favourite against a freeze mage.
Violet Teacher
A great card, but weak against patrons. Nothing new to be said.
Mathch-ups / mulligans:
Mage, Warlock, Shaman: BACKSTAB, SI:7. Do NOT keep any other card unless you have backstab and SI:7. One can try keeping deadly poinson and flurry, but it's too risky for me.
Paladin, Hunter: Fan, Backstap, SI:7. If you are sure, it's not a face hunter, you can mulligan Fan.
Warrior: Shredder. If you have one and a coin, get second.
Druid: Shredder, Teacher, Prep, Sap.
Play this as fast, as you can! Oil turn 5 MIGHT be great. Prep Sap is your midgame winning combo.
Priest: You can't lose, but try to get your shredders before turn 8.
Handlock: If you are sure, you are playing against a handlock, get your shredders, sabotage. Keep backstab-eviscerate combo. THE MAIN RULE HERE is: NEVER SAP FIRST GIANT OR DRAKE. Never do that, it's an insta loss.
If i forgot something, ask me in the comment section. And please forgive my rusty english.
What would be a good replacement for Thalnos while I'm saving up dust? Any ideas?
Kobold Geomancer is probably your best bet. I use Bloodmage Thalnos most often right before I want to play Blade Flurry, and occasionally to get the extra damage out of Backstab or Eviscerate. The card draw that comes with Thalnos is a bonus, a really strong bonus, but it's the spell damage that is necessary.
How about buccaneer instead of the southsea deckhand?
better question is there anywhere buccaneer could fit into this deck?
that's why I edited to ask if there was anywhere bucc could fit into this deck and make a positive influence.
Some people run (or used to) Goblin Auto-Barber, and if you were running that I'd say that buccaneer is a definite upgrade. If you don't feel that you are being taxed for health maybe switch out the Antique Healbot or Earthen Ring Farseer for buccaneer.
I think I might swap out the earthen actually, thats a good idea
Definetly fuck Sabotage. Bloodmage is such a good card, in more decks. Not even every Rogue deck run sabotage. You can run it situationally in some decks.
In this deck I replace x1 Violet Teacher with x1 Arcane Nullifier X-21 and x1 Sabotage with x1 Iron Sensei
Rationale:
Vilolet Teacher is very good, but doesn't compare to Nullifier for these reasons:
1. Nullifier acts as OK midgame if necessary, and awesome late game if saved to combo with sensei. This deck lacks late game, so it is good to have a good late game combo. The "untargetted by spells" actually plays a big part, for the second reason.
2. This deck relies on board control. Therefore, Nullifier has a good chance of staying on board as a 4/7 for a really long time.
3. Taunt is good in Rogue. It just is.
4. This deck draws a lot, making combos better.
Iron Sensei is better than Sabotage (or any other card you may choose to cut for being not so good) for some reasons
1. It combos with arcane nullifier, buffing it to a 4/7 that can't be targeted by spells.
2. In most cases Rogue has the tools without x1 minion killer because of its heavy reliance on board clear, so there is room for the combo.
3. Sensei works for many cards if you don't get the ideal of Nullifier, like Antique Healbot and Piloted Shredder
What does author think about Loatheb? Pretty much every oil rogue plays it. Should it have a place in the deck in your opinion?
What about dr boom and emperor guys
Maybe I play a slightly more defensive (and heavier) build with 1xSludge Belcher, 1x Loatheb and 1xAssassinate (aggro meta), but Emperor Thaurissan fits in pretty well; after playing it for 4 months consequently, I could say that after turn 6, if you draw him, the game change totally; it permits you (almost if your hand is full) to play in a single round 1xAssassin's Blade, 1xTinker's Sharpsword Oil xx Deadly Poison and xxEviscerate/Sap at 7th turn. Won tons of game thanks to him, now he's stable in the deck.
Obviously IMHO.
Assasinate in aggro meta sucks
umm why don't you use emperor thaurissan in oil rogue? ive actually tried it and it worked out ok
i cant beat combo druids ;x
Now that TGT is out, are there cards that can be added to this deck?
I'm considering Beneath the Grounds as a replacement for Violet Teacher.
Actually, this deck works better against aggro for me, so if meta slows down it might be uderperforming.
I got BTG (Beneath the Grounds) from a pack, an Rogue Epic... and I've played Oil Rokue in the past. The card just looks so good, powerful, it's just slow type? It costs 3 mana and is slow to play, nothing happens immediately pretty much. But I thought about prep+play this card.... it's 12/12 of stats spread across 3 bodies. provided that you reach the very end of a game that is not very common. Also can be 2x4/4 spiders, or one. Even just one 4/4 is great for 3 mana. But 2-3 is so good.
Idk.... it sounds a little slowish. but with preparation free play and stuff it's good. I consider it replacing my !SECOND! Violet Techa.
Got a question.
I don't have dust for 1 more preparation, is there anything for me to replace it with while I save up for another one? Thx.
I strongly advice not to play constructed untill you have all the cards you need
Play Arena, Learn the Game!
Ok thanks guys! 265 dust, 135 dust left till last prep :)
I'll stick to playing handlock and midranged shaman till then.
