Hi all!! I am Uroshmeister and i present to you the ultimate dragon mage.
It is really strong in the current meta, pretty much there is no bad matchup. Your goal is to use dragon combo cards to gain control and once you get it, its pretty much easy to win.
First of all, let me tell you this. I am playing hearthstone since the beta came out, and i guess when you play a game for a while it gets boring. I felt the same a couple months back. Same decks every day, same cards, same gameplay or no gameplay (huntards) and so i got bored of the game. And then a week ago, i saw Brian Kibbler playing this deck. At first sight i saw it has the pottential, but when i started playing it...WOW! The whole joy of playing this game came back again. I cannot explain how fun this deck can be, even when i'm losing i'm like: "ok, it was fun at least". I felt so good that i needed to share this deck. I made a profile on hearthpwn just for it. I had to...
Card review:
Zombie chow- Since this deck doesnt run mana wyrms for an obviuous reason, we need some kind of an early body to trade against aggro decks, and zombie chow is the best imo. Late game it can be a dead card but it doesnt need to be, the reason is that the point of this deck is not bursting your opponent down but controling the board, so even 5 health restoration isnt that bad if it leaves you with board control.
Mad scientist-we have secrets, sooo....also good for trading with aggro
Frostbolt- it can be used to kill early game minions, or to help deal with bigger targets late game. Almost never use it for face, except when you feel that you really need to stop that grim warrior combo or in other rare occasions (also for lethal, don't forget! :) ).
Counterspell- I find this secret really op, imo it's better than duplicate just because it can really mess up your opponents plan. Only time when its wasted is when the opponent has the coin or spare parts so try to play around them.
Ice barrier- 16 extra hp is huge, specially against huntards and zoo. Feel free to activate it anytime, cause there is no bad moment for activating it.
Arcane intellect- Besides azure drakes we need some kind of a card draw for those rare situations when you miss a dragon in your hand...it happens. Really.
Big game hunter- everyone runs Dr.Dre at least...
Blackwing technician- 3-5 body for 3 mana is ridiculous, even when you play it as 2-4 its fine.
Polymorph- good for dealing with thaurissan, belchers,or any other big threat.
Kezan Mystic- A lot of decks run them too, so when they steal it from you, just take it back. MINE! :)
Twilight Drake- It's a dragon, obviously, and it can be played as a really big body. Of course this isn't magelock and you dont skip till turn 4 to drop it, but even if its, 4-5,4-6 it's a good body, Sure, it can be silenced but it really paid of a lot of times, as a dragon in your hand for combos, or just not being silenced.
Antique healbot- since there are so much burst decks now, it feels like every control deck needs to run at least one .
Azure drake- dragon, card draw, spellpower...seems worthy.
Blackwing corruptor- 3 dmg battlecry is so good. Kills small minions or helps trade with big ones. Also 5-4 body is not bad.
Sludge belcher- this is your only taunt in this deck and what gives you more control than taunt?
Sylvannas- its value is op, avoid playing it on clear board and dont hesitate to use frostbolts or blackwings on her if it steals you big targets.
Dr. boom- no need to say anything, really...
Flamestrike- Wins you the game if played correctly. Clearing the enemy board while leaving you with few strong minions is pretty much game over for the enemy...
Nefarian- it's battlecry can be game winning (sacrifical pact etc.). Try baiting out big game and other removals before playing it.
Ysera- This card...I think that this card surviving few turns is a nightmare every hearthstone player fears of. Also always bait removals before playing it. Even if it gets silenced, no problem, 4-12 is enough to finnish the work.
Pretty much there is no need to take every match up, one by one. You always go for the board, no matter what you're playing aggainst (Huntard or Handlock ). There will be a lot of long matches, but don't be scared, you're outcontrolling almost every control decks out there: warriors, druids, priests...doesn;t matter, just stick to your gameplay and play smart. There will be bad days when you dont draw a dragon in first 10 or more turns ( it happened, really) but most of the time it;s all about using your advantages the best way. Just get to know the deck first, feel it's power and enjoy the game, cause that's what the game is all about, right? Of course not! It's about winning and bm- ing your opponent and making them ragequit! Cheers and enjoy the deck! :)
This deck can overcontrol every control deck and has nice survivability against aggro. I play with [card]Emperor Thaurissan[/card] instead of [card]Zombie Chow[/card], cause [card]Blackwing Technician[/card]s do their job well.
Mades some changes because i want to dodge BGHs.
- Faerie Dragon (we already have 2 x Technican, Chow and 2 x Scientiest), - Blackwing Corruptor (1 is enough imo and we have so many 5 drops already) - Dr. Boom (BGH) - Nefarian (BGH) - Fire Ball (explanation later)
+ Duplicate +Ice Barrier + Toshley + Archmage Antonidas + Chromaggus
I'm 10 : 1 with these changes, Duplicate + Toshley + Archmage is pretty much gg. 3 Facehunters just left after i duplicated Technican and stole their secret.
You just dominate early to midgame and lategame is secured by Archmage, Chromaggus and Ysera. The Icebarries and Healbot make sure that you get there.
A very fun deck to say the least. Games takes a long time though so be prepared for it, this is not Aggro Dragon!
I did swapped out Nefarian for Chromaggus. First because people expect you're running him so they might not BGH your Dr Boom. Second because i was very uncomfortable with two 9 mana minions in the same deck and was more looking to apply pressure every step of the way even if there are many turns where you don't play the curve at 100%.
I think both are very nice though at it's most likely a matter of personal taste. I also gave a try at Hungry Dragon instead of Twilight Drake because in fast games the Twilight was too small to be a real threat. However Twilight with Duplicate on board is very good so i believe it's 55% / 45% for Hungry Dragon. The consistency of the 6 life is amazing and the 1 extra attack is the real deal breaker from Twilight because it trades so much better. Also, late game you can get rid of the 1 mana minion you're giving to your opponent and there's no downside to drawing into him.
Now this deck is very nice for Casual or low ranking play (maybe even at Legendary) but you will have troubles getting over Rank 5 with this (not saying it's impossible, just saying it's very unlikely) because when facing your regular Zoo / Face Hunter / Tempo Mage they will go too fast for you. Also Patron isn't a great friend of this deck, adding two fireballs for the finishing burst will help though. Handlock will be challenging too but i had a nice couple of victories against them (3/5).
So overall, try this deck, it's a fun one to play with (so good to do something else than freezing the board or praying to the RNG gods with Flamewaker on the board!!) but don't expect to take the Ladder by storm with it ;)
I've done well with the deck, but it is slow going. I'm 37 wins and 30 losses over 67 games (55%). I've been trouncing warrior (7-0) and tempo/mech mages (12-6). I'm slightly positive vs. hunter (6-5), which is always a good thing. Paladin is a problem because of their small minions and weapons (2-5) and druid is a problem because they just play the big & slow game better than anyone (2-6).
I am playing a Drakonid Crusher in place of [card]Sylvanas Windrunner[/card] (didn't have her). That could be a big deal, as Sylvanas is pretty game changing. Drakonid is another activator for the four Blackwing cards and a big closer. I've considered running Chromaggus instead for 2 more mana. I notice that you swapped a Duplicate in for one of the Polymorphs, since I built the deck. I may give that a try.
Well...not really an easy climb for me... I was rank 10 now I'm 13... I found this deck really slow and poor to play, especially against aggros and warriors
This deck is definitely giving some wins but I've played a few games against the Shaman and Pally using Kel'Thuzzad and have no answer. Any advice?
Polymorph?
i did change [card]Blackwing Corruptor[/card] with Fireball
and Ice Barrier with Fireball, Zombie Chow with Mirror Entity
fireball very important for long game
Not really, you have plenty of lategame with this deck.
Blackwing Corruptor is better than Fireball because it not only deals damage but also adds a rather large body on the board, so in most cases it can easily trade 1-for-2 with its Battlcry. Fireball can AT MOST (with the exception of combs [fireball into Abomination, etc.]) go 1-for-1. If you are worried about late game face damage then either way corruptor allows you to potentially kill a minion and still go face with i next turn. I dont see how it can possibly be seen that fireball is better than it in a DRAGON deck, and if you are worried about late game with a deck like this then I think ou are doing it wrong.
Played a few games with this deck. SUPER FUN! Always nice to try something new. Thanks a bunch!
This deck is just bad against the aggro meta, like other comments have mentioned.
This is a great deck against agro and mid except grim. Congratz.
What do you do against handlock or it is a automatic defeat?
It is a hard match up but certainly not automatic defeat. Dont hesitate to trade with his giants. Frostbolts, blackwing corruptors help trading with them. Also bgh and poly. Just play around shadowflame and try to keep him above 15 health if you dont have an answer to moltens.
i cant win vs zoo locks
should i keep flamestrike vs warlocks in the mulligan hand or too risky cause of its cost?
No, mulligan for chow, faerie and blackwing techs. Trade until you have board control and from there it should be fine.
i really love this deck, and ithank you so much for posting it. i actually don't have ysera or sylvanas. so i put put in 2 ice blocks instead, and i think it really helps because of the extra turn to live
The dragon master AWAKENS BITCHES
I think maybe replacing one twilight drake with one hungry dragon or something? twilight drake sometimes feels a little week when you are behind and when u drew it with an almost empty hand
(puts 7 dragons in a mage deck)
"HEY GUYS I MADE A DRAGON DECK!" SEE? I'M ORIGINAL!
