*RECENT CHANGES* Added OOZE + Harrison. Solidifies the Patron matchup, and helps with hunters & paladins. Removed one SW:D for mass dispel, which I feel has too much power in this deck to remove. Added Mind Control back in with the previous changes as it's good against almost all matchups that arent super aggro.
Hey everyone! This is the deck I used to get to and maintain top 100 legend. I'm constantly adjusting this deck for the meta, and have found it EXCELS at tournaments. This deck is good against almost every class, and has a 100% win ratio against most control decks (Seriously, it's not even funny).
Basic strategy
Try and use as LITTLE as you can card wise each turn. You will likely be behind in health for a while and stabilize, similar to control. An early shadowform will win you games, this does not exlude aggro matchups. You have two healbots, two holy novas, two holy fires that total 32 extra health + damage, do not be afraid of saving cards for BIG aoe turns. You are removing minions the entire game, not going face, not worrying about armor or health.
Against aggro: Mulligan for Sheep, Smite, Pain, Deathlord, Shadow madness, Healbot, ooze (depending on class)
Against control: Mulligan for Shadowform, thoughtsteal, Shadow Madness, and Death. (Keep voljin against Priests and druids)
Tough Decks: Combo Druid & freeze mage can give you problems, but are still very winnable given you draw well.
Key / unconventional card explanations:
Shrinkmeister: Consider running two of these. They combo with cabal, pain, shadow maddness really well.
Smite / Explosive Sheep/ doomsayer : Good to deal with pesky early minions or to combo with voljin if you don't have shadowform up. Against mages, a copied doomsayer or sheep can be devastating for his board.
Every card is a tech card, the point of this deck is to literally outlast your opponent and plays very similar to a control warrior with much more utility,
Harrison Jones & ooze: Absolutely destroys paladins / warriors, and can come in handy against hunters. Allows you to draw cards to stabilize.
Mind Control: Against certain matchups, this is crucial. Those being preist, paladin, warrior for obvious reason.
Mass Dispel: Near the end of the game, this can disable cards like boom, sylvanus, muster for battle combo, secretkeepers, and draw you a card. IF they have a large board, it combos with lightbomb very well.
Shadowform: 2 mana / 2 damage or if you get lucky, 2 mana / 3 damage that doesn't use cards. Combos so well with so many cards in your deck. Voljin / free removal. Holy Fire / 8 health giant killer. If a game goes long, it also puts on insane pressure. Don't forget, you can also Hero power, shadow from, hero power for double hero power insanity.
Lightbomb: Two of them are key in this deck, deals with handlock / paladins / warriors (grim and control) very well. Since the point of this deck is strictly to get value from killing minions, these really go a long way in winning you games.
Please up-vote and comment if you like the deck. I'd love to give a much more detailed guide if this gets more views. I'll be playing this a lot more on stream with walk through videos to come! http://www.twitch.tv/storchlol
Check out previous streams, as I've took first in a couple tourneys with this deck.
Hi St0rch -- will you be updating this deck with any TGT cards? Do you think it will remain viable? It's a lot of fun to play.
Other than the legendary, I don't see many priest cards fitting in this deck from the new set. However, with the meta slowing down I do think this deck could really shine, it just depends.
Which card would you take out for Palestress?
I took out Mind control for palestress for a while and it seemed to work pretty well, though mind control can be too good to replace so I ended up changing the deck quite a bit. I'll post an updated version.
Thanks for the follow-up, appreciated.
I'm not able to beat a single Combo Druid -- I know this is one of the tougher matchups for this deck. Can you describe your strategy for this? Am I typically trying to Shadowform as early as possible? I've been mulliganing as if I'm playing against control, but I'm not sure this is correct.
I've found this to be the most difficult deck to beat. With the new additions, rogue and patron seem to be fairly easy, but combo druid relies on the enemy not having board control, yet this deck has no board.
ALWAYS keep shadowform. I mulligan slow on this one, Lightbomb, mass dispel, deathlords (play deathlords early if you have any removal, druid has so many battlecry minions that typically it will turn out in your favor) If you can pull an ancient, the odds turn drastically in your favor. Save sw pain if you have shrinkmeister in your hand. Save your lightbombs for FULL boards. You will likely have to take a lot of damage right away in order to gain a lead at all via passing turns to set up for a big lighbomb, and then heal up quickly after.
But like you said, it's a difficult deck to beat, and you have to weigh out the meta because it does really well against most other decks if you play it right. Every deck has it's weakness, combo druid is definitely the weakness here.
THanks, I appreciate the response. I'm watching the video of you playing this deck (on your Twitch) -- it is helpful.
made face hunter suck sweet dick :-)
I think this deck is great! Still early playing for me, but 6-1 so far, and having a lot of fun with it. Love causing so much frustration to my opponents. Muaha. Muahahaha. Thank you, st0rch!!
I got beat down by st0rch playing this deck. I thought WTH was that? So I built it, so far 6-2. Alot of fun to play.
Deck is fun to play, but despite the claim of 100% win rate against grim patron warrior I'm now 0-3 against patron warriors.
I have found that the biggest mistake against patron is playing Deathlord and sludge belcher at the wrong time. It gives more minions to buff Frothing Berzerker.
Hi! I always thought that priest is the most fun class in hearthstone, and since I didn't want to join the evil ranks of aggro decks, I was looking for an unique deck that could really stand its own against aggro decks as well as other decks.
I've been trying this deck in the asian server and I think it definitely has potential. It's not an easy deck to use, and I've been getting just above 50% wins, but once I get more used to the deck and reduce my mistakes i'm sure it can do better. I've tried Prophet Velen and Mind Blast like the comment below, but even though velen is really good in this deck, I felt that explosive sheep makes aggro matchups better. Velen makes your hand a bit klunky, and is more useful when you already have control of the game, which is not the case of this deck. The deck could also really benefit from Ysera or chromaggus, but there aren't really space for them...I guess...
The worst matchups are probably combo decks because this deck has absolutely no way of applying pressure, and the opponent can take all their time and deck to set up ideal combos. I was doing well against an oil rogue, and then I took a 25 damage combo to the face...early zoo decks can also be a problem if their damage builds up too fast for you to manage, but still, I love how this deck manages surprisingly well against aggro decks.
Even though you said that it destroys warrior, I could use some tips against warrior decks. It seems that you have to play in a different way compared to aggro matchups, and you can't really wear down their armor. I lost my latest warrior matchup by playing deathlord too early and popping a kel'thuzad for him...which I know is a bad move and you should not play deathlord against warrior without hard removal in your hands, but still I could use some help :)
Again, thanks for the wonderful deck! I really enjoy imagining the look on my opponent's face when I shadowform into dark Anduin since nobody really uses it :)
Hi! Thank you for the comment.
Combo decks can be nasty, freeze mage and druid specifically. I don't honestly have an issue with rogues, all you want to do is try to clear his board each turn if possible, keeping harrison for a buffed weapon and your taunts for when you cant clear.
With warriors, do not even worry about the armor, do not worry about establishing a board presence (IE deathlord). You are playing REACTIVELY, meaning you deal with his minions as he plays them. The low cost ones shouldnt even worry you, as shadow madness, shadow presence, pain can basically deal with these. Shadowform is great to mulligan here, so is thoughtsteal.
Deathlord should not be played against a warrior UNTIL you have a lightbomb or a death in hand and around turn 6, at which point it really doesn't matter what he draws. You have more removal than he does cards, more healing than he does damage, and more damage with shadowform than all the armor in the world + fatigue. The last step is to save your healbots until he either uses alextraza, or gets you to a point where he might kill you. Keep playing! There is a small learning curve but once you get it down you'll love it.
Thanks for the reply! My plays are getting better, and also leading to more wins...The rogue combo was southsea deckhand + double oil + blade furry and he sapped my sludge belcher, so there was nothing I could really do, but I guess that doesn't happen very often :)
sorry to bother you again, but after playing a bit more, I couldn't really find the answer with patron warrior mainly because they just emperor thaurissan and even though I remove it right away, I can't deal with warsong commander + 2 frothing berserkers or something like that...because after a couple of turns they know they can play to their pace and save their combos.
Face hunters are also difficult because they deal damage before you can react, and I found that early shadowform is not the answer to face hunters. If they get nice draws they usually deal more damage than I can handle, and AOE doen't really help...I guess you just hope that the damage is bearable while you are clearing.
Last of all, what about Acidic Swamp Ooze instead of Harrison Jones ? I really like Indiana Ford, but since it makes you draw more cards and a bit klunky, I thought that Swamp Ooze might help clear weapons better than Han solo, although in most cases I did find the opponent drawing much more cards than me.
Patron is tough if he knows what hes doing. I actually put deathlords out to try and pull an early tharusan or hellscream or any of his combo pieces to kill it. Combo decks are this decks main weakness TBH, still winnable unless he just stockpiles. Early shadowform here.
For face hunters, I actually find them quite easy. Aim for healbots and deathlords shadow word pains and smite in your hand, and no actually, do not shadowform here :). Kezan teched here instead of mass dispel is helpful., and you might get low, but you are able to get yourself back up most of the time, similar to control warriors in this matchup. You also have the two belchers to back you up later on. Playing a doomsayer on turn two to delay the game is also worth it.
I actually value the card draw from harrison. Especially versus hunters and control warriors. You arent really trying to fatigue him or anything, your hero power and cards will outvalue his eventually. Ooze could be teched against hunters though.
I understand most cards in deck except for Explosive Sheep when you could run 2 Doomsayer instead (especially when you already have 2 Holy Nova. Any reason for this??
The main reason, is that doomsayer can be dealt with much easier. Explosive sheep is a surefire 2 aoe if it doesn't get silenced (a problem the deathlord also faces). It also gives another way to deal with deathrattles / spiders and is straight up better against certain classes (shamans / hunters), and can be popped on your turn if neccessary.
It can be played against a full board for a guaranteed clear with other spells (lightbomb / holy nova / any of your removal), where as doomsayer would fail against a full board. (Playing this against a big zoo board w/eggs to make sure they are popped for an incoming lightbomb). It can also be placed early if you know you have a holy nova coming up as another way to clear a board a doomsayer would otherwise fail.
To be honest, it just adds more versatility to have one of each. Doomsayer in my experience fails more than it doesn't, and unless you get it out extremely early (turn 2/3) is a completely dead card as it's very easy to deal with considering this deck doesn't establish a board presence and has no way to freeze minions. Just my two cents, you can definitely try it and see how it works for you! It's not absurd either way.
