Since 2014 I've been trying to make an effective control hunter, and I made some pretty decent control-oriented decks that I got golden hunter with. I always really liked hunter, and my playstyle is pretty controlish. I went nuts when Gahz'rilla came out, and knew he had potential. I can't even count how many times I won because the enemy left him alive on the board.
Even without him this deck works. Here are some choices I made:
- Why no Kill Command?
I don't think there is any space for it, and you don't have that many beasts. I find Arcane Shot better because it can combo with Wild Pyromancer and destroy aggro and zoo decks.
Wild Pyromancer + Hunter's Mark combo is devastating because it can kill big minions such as Dr. Boom and deal damage to all the others, making this useful in lots of situations and in all kinds of matches. Synergizes as well with Acolyte of Pain, and of course, Gahz'rilla.
- Why Bloodmage Thalnos?
Better Loot Hoarder, which has spell power for Arcane Shot and Quick Shot.
- Why Kezan Mystic?
I used Explosive Trap, but I found out that Kezan Mystic makes you instantly win against Freeze Mage and annihilate our hated brothers, Face Hunters. Explosive Trap proved itself ineffective in many situations due to the enemy be playing around it.
Mulligan
Mulligan hard for 1,2 drops in aggro matchups, and if you already have it, keep 3 drops. Against hunters and mages always keep Kezan Mystic.
In other matches, mulligan for 1,2,3 drops. If you already have a 2 or 3 drop, you can keep 4 drops.

I hope you guys like it, and any question about replacement of cards, comment.
EDIT: This deck is better against control, but you can do anti-aggro approaches:
x2 Zombie Chow instead of x2 Animal Companion
x2 Sen'jin Shieldmasta instead of x2 Piloted Shredder
Does this deck still working in the current meta?
I'm working on a new version.
make it plz, i've tested so many things to make a viable deck, i might need some help
Still good?
I had to make a few substitutions (didn't have Thalnos, Sylv or Rags) but it's still running great! Love it!
Been Tinkering around with Control Hunter ever Since steamwheedle was released in GvG. I have some different card choices but all dependent on where you currently stand on the ladder. here is my build at the moment
Glad to see other out there trying to break the mold when it come to playing the hunter class. Keep up the good work !
The only deck i want to play! THANKS!
I'm about to craft one of the 2 legendarys i'm missing for this. Which one would you say hold more value. Bloodmage or Syvanas?
2x Mad Scientist
Thats the thing, BGH cant kill your gahz or Dr. Boom anymore. It's always better to play Dr. Boom first when you can.
Can someone tell me if these are acceptable changes for cards I don't have
x2 Savannah Highmane - Cairne Bloodhoof and Sky Golem
x1 Wild Pyromancer - x1 Explosive Trap
x2 teamwheedle Sniper - Mad Scientist and BGH ( I just looked through the posts and that's what i saw recommended)
x1 Bloodmage Thalnos - loot hoarder like other post said
Loot Hoarder and +1 Azure Drake
Love this deck! It has been working really well for me around rank 6-9. I win the majority of my games. I've added in Gahz'rilla in place of Sylvanas because I think it's such a cool card but I haven't ended up using it all that often.
Not sure I understand what you're saying... Gahz'rilla is already the central card of the deck, so how could you have added him in place of Sylvanas? You can only have one Gahz...
Ahh sorry! I misread the deck. I didn't see Gahz because I was looking under neutral minions and I was super confused. My bad.
I had the same problem so I tech'd in a BGH. The reason being that I often like using my Hunter's Mark on medium value targets for tempo reasons and sometimes get stuck with an enemy still having a big hitter.
Mad Scientist is probably the best option.
King Krush works better in a midrange Hunter, one which would run Tracking and maybe even Call Pet. Unless you have ways to reliably cycle through your deck to find him, he's not that good.
I don't have Sylvanas but have most other cards, what would be the best replacement?
+1 Azure Drake
