Deck Overview:
Dragon Priest really popped off after the Blackwing Adventure but this deck got kind off forgotten when the Old Gods spread their madness around. Now it's back stronger than ever :) I'm happy to show you my new version of Dragon Priest!
Key cards & Controversies:
You always want to play on curve, that's the key of this deck. As long as you keep board control you're on the winning side. This deck has a few comeback cards like Chillmaw but I wouldn't count on those too much. Keep your minions alive and trade efficient.
Mulligan Strategy:
Twilight Whelp is the best one drop for sure! It's like Zombie Chow without deathrattle! Against aggro it trades 2 for 1 or eats away a spell.
Other cards you might want to get are: Blackwing Technician, Northshire Cleric, Power Word: Shield, Wyrmrest Agent for the synergy.
Major Revisions:
nothing changed yet

Thanks for all the suggestions you made. I really appreciate it!
Should I remove something to add Voljin?
I'm a big fan of Vol'jin, but for this deck, I found him hardly useful since you usually need to immediately finish off the minion you traded health with a combo like Holy Smite. You can't use Holy Nova nor Blackwing Corruptor in this case, if anything I'd recommend a second Lightbomb
This deck crush tempo and freeze mages. Also really nice deck overall.
As others have pointed out, deck is too slow. Besides messing around with dragons there is no reason to play this over the Chinese Lightbomb Priest deck.
So far am 1-5 with it. With losses Dragon Paladin, Face Hunter, Mill Druid, Oil Rogue, and Mid-range Paladin.
Why BGH instead of 2nd sw:d ?? i dont understand this ... sw:d can help in more situations :O
But when u can kill 5attack minions or just 7 attack minion, u dont rly care if u let 4/2 body behind, if u cant kill that Emperor when u need it etc.
7 mana and 3 mana is huge difference and u cant rely on having damaged minion when u need to, so your example is totaly unrelated. We can agree to disagree, but i dont think BGH fits in priest, if u dont run it as "3rd sw:d".
I really like your deck, but I change a little bit because I don't have some cards such as BGH and Ysera the reason I like because this deck have low mana curve than pally dragon and have some late game stuff as I try I win both hunter (turn1 Twilight Whelp turn2 coin Blackwing Technician) and control warrior easily.
I agree with your idea about Faerie Dragon have more dragon is great and it doesn't die to a lot of things
Thanks for the deck :)
trash deck
too random
Why do people play dragon paladin? This deck is exactly what I was looking for when I wanted a dragon deck.
A) Its not slow with Turn 1 Priestess/Welp then PWS or Velens. (Mulligan for these beauties)
B) SO much tempo. Spell power holy nova, corrupter, Sorcerer + PWS/ Velens, Velens in general, amazing card
C) Late game, you win against most matchups. Mind control, ysera, hard removal, sylvanas and buffed minions.
Against cancer it seems to do pretty well for me as long as I have something to play by turn 2 as we have nice recovery with holy nova, our heals and a buffed sludge belcher (at 5/9 its pretty much a ancient of war). Against control we are a bit weaker as this deck is most definitely midrange and we rely on board heavily so if we get cleared we cry as legendary after legendary is painful. But funnily enough this deck has a 100% win rate against dragon pali out of my 6 games with them. Their deck is just too slow and we have very powerful removal (lightbomb and MC).
I was doubtful at first about Faerie Dragon but it feels so natural. T1 welp/priestess, T2 dragon. Forces the opponent to trade and give you some nice tempo because now you have 2 annoying things to deal with by turn 2. It also helps with the consistency of the deck, lowering the curve and giving us more dragons.
Also Sylvanas Windrunner is MVP. Don't play her on an empty board, play her when your opponent has some stuff. If she gets silenced, that' one silence away from your buffed minions if they haven't already used it. Most common scenario is that they either ignore her and go face or suicide everything into her, forcing bad trades. Also, if they ignore her you can play Lightbomb to kill all the weenies and steal the big guy.
The modifications I have made are:
-1 Chromaggus +1 Dr. Boom cos he's balanced as hell and Chromaggus doesn't impact the board instantly. This is pretty much a midrange deck, not a control deck with powerful late game although the late game is still strong.
-1 Hungry Dragon +1 Lightbomb. Personal preference, hungry dragon is bad without a board and Lightbomb Name is perfect against "everyone get in here" and other control decks like handlock. Lightbomb also works amazingly well against Zoo as their minions often have more than 2HP. Also Lightbomb gets buffed by spellpower so it can actually kill most boards.
-2 Blackwing Technician +2 Dark Cultist. So many times its turn 3 and no dragon. Also late game the body isn't that great while Dark Cultist's deathrattle is still powerful late game as well as early, +3 Health is not a joke. Cultist forces the opponent to kill your other stuff while Technician just sits there.
Unfortunately, this deck suffers the same problems that all dragon decks so far do: they're slower than molasses, and although dragon cards usually have great stats, they don't have an immediate (positive) impact on the board, which is FAR more important. You can get away with it when it's only one or two huge cards (like KT), but not when they make up 2/3 of your deck.
I honestly wonder if there's anything that Blizz can even do to shake the dominance of aggro in this game, short of a total overhaul. It just doesn't seem like the format/ruleset lends itself to control, except in the case of classes with ridiculous amounts of removal and health gain like warrior and freeze mage.
I could not agree more. I'm trying to make this deck work and it looks ok on paper but in practice it just plain and simple does not work. I've lost more than I've won with this deck and to quite a few different decks and it's all been completely related to tempo and zero board presence because the deck is just too slow.
You never put Faerie Dragon in priest decks. Ever.
Your horrible deck is what's annoying.
Didn't realize faerie dragon wasn't a beast.
>Faerie Dragon
>not a dragon
I... uh... what?
Faerie Dragon isn't a dragon. It is just faerie! ^.~
This deck really takes it to Hunter. I had some decent success with it and i think its a great tempo deck.
Actually, this deck is so slow I lose to every face hunter.
This idea behind the deck is good but it does not work in practice :/
Well, this season I'll main Priest and see as far as I can go with it. I don like the control ones, and already felt in love with Dragon Priest. I'm running something like that. I replaced the Big Game Hunter for another Shadow Word: Death; Ironbeak Owl for Silence; I dont like Hungry Dragon at all, so Im running one more Faerie Dragon; I also play one more Azure Drake and replaced Chromaggus for Dr. Boom cause you know, its damn broken and most of the time I cant combo him with Power Word: Shield.
It's been working really well for me until now (Rank 12) and went in some crazy wins streaks. Lets see...
**Also, I'll put this kind of deck in more like a Midrange Priest, cause you need to be agressive and this deck provides that.
