Deck Overview:
Dragon Priest really popped off after the Blackwing Adventure but this deck got kind off forgotten when the Old Gods spread their madness around. Now it's back stronger than ever :) I'm happy to show you my new version of Dragon Priest!
Key cards & Controversies:
You always want to play on curve, that's the key of this deck. As long as you keep board control you're on the winning side. This deck has a few comeback cards like Chillmaw but I wouldn't count on those too much. Keep your minions alive and trade efficient.
Mulligan Strategy:
Twilight Whelp is the best one drop for sure! It's like Zombie Chow without deathrattle! Against aggro it trades 2 for 1 or eats away a spell.
Other cards you might want to get are: Blackwing Technician, Northshire Cleric, Power Word: Shield, Wyrmrest Agent for the synergy.
Major Revisions:
nothing changed yet

Not true, this deck is currently blowing in between ranks 20 - 11 then it starts to pound the opponents. All depends on the meta
Really cool deck I enjoyed making a gameplay video of it :P ! Thanks for the guide! Chrommagus value :Kreygasm:
With my experience the deck is pretty solid, the only major losses I've had have been to mill decks. Mainly Rogue mill.
There isn't enough early game, anyone have any ideas how to fix that? It's difficult because the dragons are great, but without early game the dragon cards lose tempo...
Most games, even when I mulligan hard. I'll get a twilight drake but then everything else is 4-5 mana and i'm straight out of luck. Especially if they use an early removal on the whelp.
I change 9 card for the original deck
I add:
2x Dark Cultist
2x Cabal Shadow Priest
1x Shadow Madness
1x Azure Drake
1x Lightbomb
1x Shadow Word: Death
1x Dr. Boom
You literally just made it a control deck instead of a dragon deck.
Im not sure about that, i think its more midrange cause the mana curve, but you can be truth. The dragons are slow and seems this deck works better as control deck. The two mana drops or the current deck are terrible, you almost never playing this on turn 2.
I also keeps the dragons, i only drop faerie and one dragonskin.
Yeah well, all the times you dont have a dragon in your hand on turn 3 mana for Blackwing Tech, you are very likely dead.
Again, hope you are having fun with it, would love to play a Priest Dragon deck, but this just aint working.
fun deck. I had to replace Sylvanas & Ysera b/c i don't have them, so I used Emperor and Nefarian. They both are the same mana slot as their the original choices. Emperor works well because this deck has a lot of card draw and cards you want to hold.
One thing, I'm considering replacing hungry dragon with an additional buff. often times I don't want to play my dragon kin because i've already used a buff on a cheaper minion to gain tempo, and this deck only has 4. Also, the extra hungry dragon enemy minion ends up being a pain quite a bit.
I tried 40 - 50 games with this deck, I did a few changes, currently I'm stuck at level 15 (the best I have ever achieved was level 5).
The main issue is to survive against all these aggro decks (demon zoo, huntard and pally) with a bad opening hand it is impossible to come back in the game (War control is not that dramatic because of the amount of armour we can stack up in the middle / late game).
It doesn't make sense to run one Shadow Word: Death and one Big Game Hunter when you could just run 2 Shadow Word: Death. It does the same thing but better
The question is in witch meta you test the deck? whats your rank? whats your server? This is the problem of hearthpwn the builders dont show enought info, and when you try it doesnt work at all.
And this is that happen to this deck, at highter ranks on EU this deck dont work, for a tempo deck you need always play over mana curve since the beginning, This deck dont have a good mana curve and most of time you dont play nothing until turn 3 o 4 and sometime you dont be able to play over tempo cause you dont have the control of the board.
I've been wanting to try a priest dragon deck ever since I heard about BRM. I've played priest ever since release, and seeing as how priest is not doing well in the past few seasons, I was hoping BRM would give us a boost. I saw that this deck was the highest rated dragon priest deck, so I thought I would give it a try. Here are my results and thoughts after 15 ranked games.
Rank 19
G1: Lost: Mech Mage (I was demolished here)
G2: Won: Handlock (beat them bad)
G3: Lost: Deathrattle Hunter
G4: Won: Freeze Mage
G5: Won: Paladin
G6: Won: Paladin
Rank 18 (win streak)
G7: Lost: Shaman
G8: Lost: Tempo Priest
G9: Lost: Dragon Priest (had 1 misplay and BAD luck RNG with hungry dragon)
G10: Lost: Warlock Zoo (got beat bad)
Rank 19
G11: Won: Demonlock
G12: Lost: Dragonlock
G13: Won: F2P MidRange Hunter (they misplayed pretty badly, I may have lost had they played better)
G14: Lost: Face Hunter
G15: Lost: Paladin
Wins: 6 - Losses: 9
So, not very happy with the results here. I question the inclusion of Faerie Dragon (good dragon synergy, no priest synergy), Big Game Hunter (often just sitting in my hand), but I wouldn't blame their inclusion on the poor winning percentage. BGH Was very handy in stomping out the handlock. I had a number of times where I felt that Lightbomb would have given me the board clear I needed. I may tweak a few things and try again sometime. Not complaining about this deck specifically, but I'm not extremely optimistic about any dragon priest deck doing particularly well in the current meta.
Thanks for putting this deck together, I will post my findings if I try again with this or a tweaked version.
My results were about 50/50 no matter how much I play it. So by that logic it is an average deck. It did look very good and I tried my own Dragon Priest with similar results.
i do the same thing, i think it's a good choice and both are 9 mana cards
Really fun deck - and it works!
However I switched out Ysera with Emperor Thaurissan and Big Game Hunter with another Faerie Dragon
And this works better for me in ranked :)
Awesome deck.Having lots of fun with it.
Wow i did the same like uraweirdo said and changed bgh too.
- 1 Chromaggus - 1 Hungry Dragon - 2 Blackwing Technician - 1 Big Game Hunter
+ 1 Dr. Boom + 1 Lightbomb + 2 Dark Cultist + 1 Shadow Word: Death
Especially Lightbomb saved my a** so many times against different classes if you are not able to clear the board or to get boardcontrol. (pretty the same ^^). And you are able to kill thaurissan or other 5-attack minons with Shadow Word: Death. (but without a minion of course)
Did -1 Big Game Hunter, -1 Hungry Dragon, -1 Thoughtsteal
+1 Shadow Word: Death, +1 Lightbomb, +1 Wild Pyromancer
