This is an easy deck to beat Drakkisath with, relying on the poor AI of the boss. When you have Kel'Thuzad and a Taunt minion out, Drakkisath will NOT attack the taunt minion for any reason. Drakkisath will still use Kidnappers and Flamestrikes on Taunt minions, so be sure to get more than 1 Taunt minion out quickly! Keeping Kel alive is the priority, as well as defeating Drakkisath before he uses Twisting Nether.
However, Drakkisath has a few ways to kill Kel'Thuzad, so the goal of this deck is to get Kel'Thuzad out and keep Kel stealthed to protect him. Use your other minions to hit face and win while Drakkisath does nothing.
Beware, this deck is very dependent on Drakkisath's first turn. Ideally you will play Kel on the first turn, but if Drakkisath immediately destroys him, it's game over. Simply restart and try again. Once you get Kel stealthed with Master of Disguise, Drakkisath cannot use his "destroy a minion - gain 10 armor" spell on Kel. You have to still be wary of double Flamestrike and Twisting Nether.
To limit the risk of Flamestrike, swapping in a couple Earthen Ring Farseers might be a good idea to heal Kel after a single Flamestrike. There is no way to avoid Twisting Nether with this deck. You just have to get lucky and hope Drakkisath doesn't draw it. One thing I've noticed and a couple other people have mentioned - if Drakkisath has a board full of his own minions, he won't use Twisting Nether (or use it much less often).
Be careful when using Conceal. Use if BEFORE attacking with your Taunt minions so they lose Stealth on Drakkisath's turn.
Also, you can replace many of the cards in this deck. Sylvanas gives an insane amount of value, but once you get a stealthed Kel + Taunt, you don't *need* anything else to win. So use your good legends if you have them, but Kel and the stealth cards are the only essentials in this deck. Alexstrasza is very useful if you have her.
Here is a video of the deck in action, courtesy of Matt_Sparks.
Changelog:
Swapped Loatheb for a Core Hound after being notified that Loatheb's Battlecry has no effect. Drakkisath's hero power overrides it. All cards cost 1, and not a thing can change that.
Paladin is way better for this. Secrets + kel = Kel Never dies.
Plus if you clone him = GG (faceless)
killed him on 4th attempt... got KT in starting hand without him destroying it on 1st turn.. Thanks!!!
maaaaan OMG more than an hour trying but at last... one of the most annoying bosses
After ~30 tries i finally beat him, i added Gang Up for Kel'Thuzad because i lost multiple times because of his double Flamestrike. Once you have the KT + Taunt setup try to Gang Up KT for a backup strategy.
first 3 games he attacked my taunt every time? blizz fixed bug?
Thanks a lot!!!! 4th try with this deck..
Worked first try. I started with Kel'Thuzad in my hand. Only change I made was to sub out a War Golem for Dr. Boom.
First try, worked like a charm. T1 Boulderfist T2 Kel T3 Master of Disguise T4 Lord of Arena T5 Sunwalker and it just spiraled out from there.
Antique Healbot works if you need more time to draw a taunt or Kel
Tip: try to bait out the immediate kill card with something before Kel'Thuzad
Thank you! Finally beat this annoying guy
Well I won on 3rd try but not by any of the intended strategy of this deck. I played Sneed's Old Shredder (subbed card) on turn 1. It died on turn 3 and popped out a Mal'Ganis. I stealthed it with Master of Disguise so my hero remained immune. I just kept clicking end turn until he died of fatigue damage. LOL.
Fake, he has Twisting Nether...
He burned them from drawing too much after he filled his board.
u are the RNG king, then... I still thing it's almost impossible that coincidence...
Very rare indeed. He had a full board too, so I don't think he would have used a Twisting Nether regardless, too much self damage. I don't think the AI is smart enough when it comes to that.
30 tries. finally down. damn, never had such difficulties fighting a hero
This was a fun deck to play, thanks for sharing it! Used it for my Heroic Boss video series, I hope you like it!
Great video, thanks for posting it!
1st try with Kel'tuzad, sunwalker and Alextraza in starting hand.
Great deck thx.
this week has been insanely easy, thanks for the easy win!
Took me a while but worked!
