Introduction
HI all, my name is lee shi tian.
If you play magic the gathering, you might have heard my name. If not, may be just google my name up, I try not to explain too much here XD. Hope my resume in mtg put up a stronger background for this deck.
Long story short, after a heartbreaking finish in Pro Tour last weekend, I took some time to grind golds (yes I didn’t pay a lot playing HS) for BRM. So I got enough gold and solve blackrock depth and get the new cards, I started trying to brew decks around the new cards.
And this is the deck I built in the Sunday morning and I hit legend (from rank 11 or 12) in Tuesday Morning.
This deck is fully built around the combo between Grim Patron and Warsong Commander.
Deck Idea
If you never tried the combo, this is how it works:
Say your opponent control an annoying Haunted Creeper, with 8 mana, you cast Warsong Commander and Grim Patron.
Your Grim Patron will get charge, attack into creeper, you get a new patron so does your opponent get two 1/1.
Your new patrons will get charge as well thanks to commander, so you can attack again and get another new patron and repeat it for the other 1/1.
You basically get to kill each minion opponent control with 2 powers or less and and get a 3/x at the end of the turn
And this is normally enough for the game.
Sometimes your opponent might not have all the small minions (yes I am talking Druid), at this point, your deck has full set of self triggering spells, namely Inner Rage, Whirlwind and Death’s Bite.
Getting 4-6 Patron in a single turn will easily caught your opponent off guard unless they got an AOE for 3.
Also decks with larger minions normally being less aggressive and you get hell lots of time setting up the whole combo.
Card choice
Some cards might have multi functions
Combo Piece
Warsong Commander, Grim Patron, Frothing Berserker
Frothing Berserker is for decks with AOE and health (yeah I am saying Priest)
You do need another threat plus set up a one turn kill.
Enabler
Inner Rage, Whirlwind,Unstable Ghoul, Cruel Taskmaster, Slam, Death’s Bite
Very obvious , they all deal 1 damage which makes your Grim Patron survive to get another one.
Cantrips
Slam, Bloodmage Thalnos, Loot Hoarder, Acolyte of Pain, Shield Block, Gnomish Inventor
Well it’s a combo deck, all the cantrips that did something are worth playing.
Also they can interrupt your opponent’s early game to distract them playing around the combos.
Removals
Execute,Fiery War Axe, and all the enablers
Fiery War Axe shines against aggro and always are the best 2 drop.
Execute are for fatties.
All the enablers are amazing against hyper aggressive deck as well.
Random one of: Emperor Thaurissan
Maths of the deck is very complicated, this card makes the maths easier to mess up for both you and your opponent…...
Alright the real reason playing Thaurissan is due to your hand size is always full thanks to all the cantrips
Casting him with 6 cards in hand means his casting cost is free.
How to Lose with this deck
Instead of matchup analysis, I would like to talk about how you lose to each deck.
Zoo
Normally its fine, but there is time that you simply can’t catch up with their minions and they get you with Doomguard as the old fashion
Good news is you are not afraid of the new addition, Imp Gang Boss.
Combo Druid
You cant get out multiple Grim Patron early enough.
When you use the turn to set up to get multiple 3/x, you die to the combo next turn.
Hunter
More or less like Zoo, yet they don’t have Imp Gang Boss.
Those small AOE are really good in this match up. Preserve your life total and you will win in the end. They need really good mix of draw to burn you out.
Control Warrior
Brawl away all your Patron.
Priest
Lightbomb and Soulpriest/ Circle of healing, basically they will always have the AOE for you, this is why we need Frothing Berserker for OTK.
Rogue
They have even more AOE, weapon are so good against them as an efficient damage output. Don’t let them to have a free turn to Preparation into splint.
The game basically over at that point.
Shaman
Same as priest, but their Lightning Storm without spell power risks them a lot. Remember to kill all the spell power minion before you commit.
Mage
They can burn you out with Fireball and Forstbolt, preserve your life total early.
BTW chuggachugga is super annoying, 100% more annoying then annoy-o-tron.

Summary
Let me know your feeling for the deck.
I found it quite easy in the ladder consider how fast I hit legend.
I wish this version of Grim Patron combo can become one of the top tier deck.
Another reason may be due to the list is an unknown and people are not familiar with how broken the deck can do.
Time will tell.
Signing off
This deck will not survive late game. You will die of fatigue and have no big finishers.
against deck with AOE, you cannot afford to waste any of the commander
so far i dont have much issue for the problem you raised
dont afraid of doing nth and pass the turn with commander and Frothing Berserker in hand
cast it only at the turn you can kill your opponent is the game plan needed to be bear in mind
you can always wait for the big turn
You're right. Maybe it was extreme to say it "will not" survive. You can get into a little trouble though, when you have very few cards remaining and the opponent is throwing out legendaries. Sometimes it's hard for me to save the combo for turn 8 or 9 when I'm less than 20 health at turn 4 or 5 (ramp druid, face hunter, paladin with blessing of kings), but I'm learning. I've won 3 games with this deck where I had 1 health left :)
What do you mulligan for? Do you hold on to combo pieces?
the deck actually works like a control decks in early turns against all the aggro decks
you basically want to have Fiery War Axe in any match up
mage and warlock could have a wild range of deck type, yet you more likely lose to aggro where they overwhelm you
so simply mulligan for all the removals and Loot Hoarder
never keep shield block
it is the worst turn 3 play you can have
you want removal instead of shield block against aggro
it only matter when you take over the board where left your opp need to ignore the board and go for the face
at that time shield block shines at messing up their plans
druid is a very special match up that they dont have AOE for multiple Grim Patron
so aggressively mulligan for Grim Patron
your weapon are not that great as in other match up
against paladin, warrior and priest, where most likely they are slow and without burst, you are the combo side
you will want to mulligan for cantrips
get through turn 9 or even 10 to set up a otk with commander and double Frothing Berserker
the turn you cast your commander should deal at least 10+ damage
or you will easily run out of win condition
it is the matter of game plan
Hi, I Stan Lee.
My favorite grim deck :)
I don't have [card]Bloodmage Thalnos[/card] it's possible to substituite? thanks
Sheild block or novice engineer could work
simply sub it with a cantrip
So bloodmage serves primarily as a cantrip, but could grom be a better substitute?
sometimes bloodmages works well with Whirlwind
grommash is another win condition worth consider, but i think cutting 2nd Frothing Berserker is better approach as cutting too much cantrip will make the deck flow slower
so far i am satisfy with the number of card drawing in the current build
