Update:
Since the strategy of the deck works perfect for Kel'Thuzad i tried it with other minions. With some it works pretty fine others took me a lot of attempts. You can find those minions at the bottom of this text with a Video for proof. If you have ideas about other minions i should try, just leave me a comment. Note: Trying other minions i put some more expansive spells inside the deck, since it is not always so easy as it is with Kel'Thuzad.
If you like the idea of the deck, please give me +1 ;)
Requirements:
- Have "Gang Up" until turn 2
- Don't have Kel'Thuzad in your Hand
Strategy:
Kel'Thuzad is your only minion and will be summon on your opponents first turn. In round 2 use Gang Up with Kel'Thuzad and try to kill a minion. However, Kel'Thuzad must not die. On the next turn you will get another Kel'Thuzad. Try to kill as many minions as possible but don't lose both Kel'Thuzad. Next turn you get another one and so on. In the end your board is completely full with Kel Thuzads and you will win really soon. In the Mulligan search only for Gang Up and get rid of Kel'Thuzad if you get him. If you don't get Gang Up until turn 2 you can concede. So even if you have to start the game a few times, your fails won't take much time and in 15 minutes the Grim Guzzler is defeated ;)
Cards:
The rest of your cards have to be spells. Some spells make more sense than other ones. Fan of Knives is very good for the case that he summon the four minions with taunt. Blade Fury is good as well. I choose mainly cheap spells, to make the deck as cheap as possible. Especially if you try other legendaries it makes sence to use some of the more expansive spells like Preparation and Sabotage, but also for Kel'Thuzad those cards makes sence.
Threats:
- In some cases on his turn 2 he kills your first Kel'Thuzad with his remaining minions and the second one with Inner Rage and Execute. After that it is really hard to win. Preparation + Conceal on turn 2 after playing Gang Up prevent this. However, it is really unlikely that he can kill both.
If he kills your Kel'Thuzad on the first turn with Inner Rage + Coin and Execute there is nothing you can do. But this is unlikely, too. - On his turn 5 he often plays Brawl, which can leave you with an empty board. If you couldn't play a second Gang Up the game is over. However, your board should have more minions then his, so in most cases one Kel'Thuzad survives Brawl and summon the other ones again. Therefore it is necessary that he don't have the dwarf, which always wins Brawl. If he gets him on turn 5 you are just unlucky. Otherwise try to kill him as soon as possible.
- On turn 3 he plays sometimes the four 1/1 taunts, which prevents you from killing his minions. If he goes straight face he might kill you, before you can gain board control again. Fan of Knivesis an perfect answer. Blade Flurry is good as well and can be played on turn 3 with Preparation as well. If he gets a Stormwind Champion on the same turn, you have a serious problem ;)
You can see how it works in the following video:
You can use this strategy also with other minions. Not so successful, but fun anyway ;)
Malygos gets you ridiculous Spell Damage ;)
Ysera is a little harder, but it is working as well :D
With Sylvanas Windrunner this deck is quite successful as well
I won't suggest that, since the win rate is terrible, but Majordomo Executus is working, too :)
Ragnaros the Firelord was easy as well
Chromaggus is doing an amazing job. Won 3 out of 4 games when i got Gang Up until turn 2. In the video i ended up with having 14 Chromaggus and could have actually fatigue him :)
It is not a 1-minion deck, but you can't split Stalagg and Feugen ;
I just crafted Baron Geddon and could immediately include him in this list
Foe Reaper 4000 is super effective.
First Rogue legendary i got: Anub'arak
First non-legendary: Force-Tank MAX
Sneed's Old Shredder is not very consistent, but the RNG makes it one of the funniest.
Adding Baron Rivendare to support Sneed's Old Shredder makes it a 2-minion deck, but the games can be even crazier.
Deathwing the king of the Dragons :)
Mekgineer Thermaplugg was a really surprise how good he works and it is fun to play.
Illidan Stormrage is a harder one
Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound is a pretty easy one
Deathwing, Dragonlord is similar to Deathwing
Finally, Blood of The Ancient One can be played and you can reliable get to see the ancient one.
Faceless Behemoth is the second neutral that works. However, it is tough.
That's exactly how it should look like :D
Are you sure this was heroic? Got him first try after I drew gang up. His Brawl was just useless!
Yes, i am totally sure about it. You can check out the videos i made. He always summons two dudes for him :)
Once you met the requirements it is really easy with KT.
I meant that it was too easy to win and I doubt I was playing in Heroic.
Okay :)
I tried several 1-minion decks really often and i started probably more than 200 games. Don't getting it within 10 attempts is already really unlikely. You must have been really unlucky. Sorry about that.
I had a similar experience, I've had about 60 tries so far and the few times I managed to get gang up and Kel Thuzad out my board was either cleared by Brawl or he puts out a bunch of taunt dwarves and bursts me down before I can do anything. It's very frustrating but that is the nature of heroic bosses. If you could beat them in the first couple of hours it wouldn't be worth it.
I played this decks a lot of time just for fun and whenever i fulfilled the requirements i won in 90% of the cases. As i pointed out in my description there are some cases where you can loss even though you fulfill the requirements. However, lossing that often does really surprise me. This deck is actually more a gimmick deck, because it is more about the fun of beating him with just one minion, but i found it really efficient as well if you concede early enough whenever the requirements are not fulfilled. If the 1/1 taunts are a hugh problem for you i suggest to keep Fan of Knives in the beginning. Otherwise you can try my Druid deck. It doesn't have requirements, it is not an AI abuse deck and the winrate is high as well.
I found out why I keep losing the brawls, he has the brawler guy out who always wins. It seems you are on a clock to kill him before he draws that guy. I've gotten up to 5 Kel'Thuzads 3 times now and every time that guy comes up and he wipes me. I guess it just comes down to luck in the end. I will keep trying.
Edit: I just saw your Druid deck here http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/221492-brm-anti-grim-guzzler I will give that a go. Thanks for your help.
Deck is just hilarious. Kind of make me feel bad I didn't thought of this thing.
Don't worry. I got the idea quite late at the end of the first day after experimenting with several other decks before. Until then nobody else posted this idea, so i guess almost everyone didn't think about that immediately.
I couldn't upload more videos on the main page therefore i upload the video with the Foe Reaper 4000 here. It is a really easy win with him as well.
Won on my 5th try. There's a little bit of inconsistency in arriving at the desired board-state; not having Kel' in hand is easy enough, but having the Gang-Up ready to use on turn 2 can be hit or miss. Three of the losses were this board-state failure before he rolled me. The other loss was managing to almost win but lose a brawl that cleared my board, while at low HP.
Still with loads of people posting about first try victories it wouldn't surprise me if I was just on the low end of the bell-curve and the deck is actually super solid and consistent. Great work with the deck, thanks!
First game victory is actually not very likely, since the win rate is not that high. However, you can figure out really soon if you fulfill the requirements or not. Therefore if you concede early enough the boss is done in 10 minutes even though you need more than one attempt. So it is more about the fastness than the win rate. I guess it is on average one of the fastest decks, which don't abuse the AI. Apart from that i posted it mainly because it is a completely different approach than all other decks and for me it is totally fun to play it :)
Yeah man it's a cool deck idea! Neat that you tried it out with other Legendary cards as well, did any of them outperform KT or is he just the most solid choice? Also, seen some decks try it with Shaman due to the self-rez cards that class has, but I'd imagine inconsistencies would be even worse since you'd need a few and you'd miss out on the "Three Turns of KTs" Gangup grants.
I haven't tested the other legendaries so often to really say whether they are better or not. Really good legendaries are Sylvanas, Ragnaros and Foe Reaper (couldn't upload the video due to a limitation, but will put it in the comment section). But i guess that KT is probably the most effective one, since there are so few situations where you can lose once the requirements are fulfilled.
Hard to say. You can use Reincarnation or Ancestral Spirit to get your second KT, which is more likely to get than Gang Up, but you just stay with 2 KT's and if they both die in one turn it is over. Gang Up gives you more KT's and you will end up in a full board, if he can't kill them in the first 2 turns or is lucky with the Brawl. I guess the Gang Up version is better also because loses are fast.
What an amazing deck! really fun fight with it
I already finished Heroic BRM when I found this but I had to do it anyway because it looked hilarious. It was glorious :D
Yeah it's fun. I played it more than 10 time, before i started to try other legendaries :)
ahaha :D
so nice :)
1st time concede because kel was in my hand.
2nd try win xD
