I've seen a few face warriors on the ladder and in the posts and thought I would dabble. So far it has let me go 15-3 on ranked (Levels 9-7) after doing some testing in casual. Unfortunately not very streaky in those 15-3 record...
Here's what I've seen so far:
COMBOS
- Raging Worgen, Inner Rage and Charge hits for 16 on turn 6
- late game(ish): Molten Giant with Charge does 10, a very unexpected 10.
- old news: Amani Berserker with Cruel Taskmaster orInner Rage does 7 dmg
- weapons with pump: I run only 2 pumps for the weapons, (1 Upgrade and 1 Captain Greenskin). This allows your weapons (even the good ol Fiery War Axe) to keep on hitting, allowing you to get way more value out of them, and the captain comes with a decent body, I find he never is a dead card unless you are really pulling straws late game. In a real pinch, upgrade can be used to get a weapon, but I've only done it once against a pally to clear some troops.
- Weapons with Dread Corsair: this has been a real all star tempo swing for me. Dropping a weapon (either Fiery War Axe, or Death's Bite) along with a free or 1 mana 3/3 taunt is tough to get around. Often your weapon can wipe anything on the board (if necessary), leaving your opponent with nothing and facing a creature as well. This early pressure lets you start smashing face while your opponent is one step behind.
Card Explanations: (non Combo)
- Heroic Strike - with or without a weapon this is 4 dmg to the face, and can be used early on if you have to play the board control game (which this can do, not super efficiently, but doable)
- Acolyte of Pain - One source of card draw. you have to play him only if you will get minimum 2 draws out of him (which is quite easy with 6 cards able to ping him.
- Mortal Strike - only good value at late game, but have used it many times to finish off around taunts
- Ironbreak Owl and Black Knight - self explanatory, but I usually reserve the owls for sludge and black knight for anything bigger without the deathrattle
PLUS - The deck is not vulnerable to AoE as you never really fill the board with more than 2 minions (they often get taken out, but after they've gained value for you), and very few are running weapon removal (and if they are, they only run one).
MINUS - (1)The obvious downfall to the deck is the lack of card draw (except AOP)... and it's an honest problem with the deck, however the burst potential is much higher than that of hunter and in the meta right now, it is not expected whatsoever from warrior class. (2)The other thing is taunts... Really the annoying ones are richard simmons mech annoyotron and sludge as they usually require 2 pieces of value. However, not much else is being run, so with 3 ways to remove annoying taunts, I've found it hasn't been a huge issue. Defender of argus is starting to make a bit of a comeback in my meta atm, but still usually not combined with the other taunts, so 3 taunt removals should be ok.
Please test, and any comments would be welcome! Happy face SMASHING!
This is, so far, the only aggro War deck that has worked for me. Kudos.
I only changed the Heroic Strike, Cpt Green and an Amani for a Rampage, Juggernaut and Leeroy respectively. They fit my idea of the deck a bit better.
Good stuff!
Cheers!
I don't have a Leeroy, but think he fits nicely.
What's your main Rampage target?
I like the juggernaut... a bit more boom/bust than greenskin (he normally only adds 4-6 dmg through weapons, but does have board presence). I'm curious to know how often the mine would factor in and if the math works in favour of it or greenskin... The other thing I would counter with is that ideally you want to hit the 6 mana raging combo at turn 6, rather than dropping Juggernaut.
Let me know if the mines actually blow or not!
Tbh, Jugger is there because I don't have Greenskin. I think Greenskin is the superior choice. Juggernaut doesn't fit in Aggro.
Main Rampage target is Acolyte for the extra card draw, but Worgen is also great as a finisher.
Deck's strength is its diverse options for dealing with different scenarios, an area which is typically Aggro War's weakness, imo. This deck's weak point is card draw, however. It has plenty of damage and potential... just needs the cards in hand.
Card draw is for sure the issue... a self admitted one in the original description.
I've been tinkering with the idea of jeeves... but he doesn't have the aggro attack that fits, or maybe a copy of battle rage (potential for 3-4 cards, but probably most often 1-2 with the way your board often clears)
Thanks for the feedback
Had a nice little run with it this morning... a few win streaks that go interrupted again, similar to be before.
Most matchups were against face hunters, and i usually outface them! which is so extra sweet.
I've had trouble against Wall druids (the ones that run 4-7 drop taunts), just tooooo many taunts, but havn't seen too many of them.
I'm finding that the games I'm losing, I'm one turn away form lethal or I have them down to 2 life and they just manage to get out of it with healbots or massive armor pumps against control warrior. But for the most part, the games are pretty consistent and I'm not finding any of the cards dead in my hand thus far
