Hello,
If you want more deck using non convential cards, consider leaving me a follow :) Thanks!
This is the very weird deck (read uncommon) I used to get to legend early on EU server, march 2015.
It is not the only deck I used obviously, but it is the one I mainly used from rank 8 to legend itself.
Proof of legend:
This deck uses only 3 secrets, and one Kirin Tor, so it might look like a more midrangy/controle oriented deck, but the whole point is the secrets.
People are terrified of mirror entity, and will do their best to give you their zombie chow against it .
So, I decided to not run it, and have 2 duplicates for my own minions instead, as well as a very unexpected secret that was a real MvP for me: Spellbender (hence the deck name).
You will ruin any spare part strategy with it, catch a fireball or a sheep, catch a wrath. I like it better than counterspell in this deck, because a lot of spell do not "target minions" so don't prock the spellbender. The european meta is full of druids, so once they noticed it was not mirror entity, and not duplicate, the next assumption is counterspell.
So they will innervate, or coin if possible for the other classes, and that would be it. Once they notice the coin/innervate/non targeting spell didnt get counter, they will play normally.
It is so nice to get a +1 attack spare part on your new minion, that will help annoy the shit out of everyone :D
For the rest of the deck, I tried to build it against the meta: mind control tech works wonder vs paladin/mech mage, Kezan mystic is seen more and more often, and I can use it to take my secret back ^^. This barely happens but the idea was funny to me.
For the rest, the deck has a very strong late game, I did not include antonidas simply because I never felt I needed those extra fireballs, the deck wins easily without them.
I did include Toshley, for the very strong stats it has, and also because I value those extra spare parts, the more I play with them, the more I feel they can change a game.
MULLIGANS:
vs aggro:
You want to be able to hold them off early, so aim for mana wyrm, frostbolt, mad scientist and flamewaker.
I would also consider keeping 1 water elemental if you have one of the cheaper card I just mentionned, and the Kezan.
Vs aggro, just clear the board, they will run out of stuff, and you won't since your cards have a really high value.
vs midrange and control:
You don't really need mind control tech here, same goes for Kezan. You want to have a water elemental vs rogue/ warrior, but always keep mad scientist, mana wyrm and unstable portal if you can. You won't face a lot of early pressure vs control, so you can safely do the portal and hopefully adapt your strategy with what you get, that card is trully broken.
Again, control the board, you have strong minions, good removals. Do not waste the sheep on a sludge belcher unless you have to!
vs rogue, try to save your sludges for said moment to avoid the burst.
let me know if you have questions/ remarks. I unfortunately use no program to track my stats what so ever, so I don't have any numbers to give you. But I can say this: I have a full time job, do not play at my job, and manage to get legend in 7 days using this deck and my paladin most of the time, so it is possible, and not THAT time consuming :)
Added Emperor Broken to the deck for Harisson, I feel like I can't go for too many tech cards, and in a meta where face hunter rises, I rather take explosive than the bow away!
gl on ladder!
Bender > Futurama
Awesome xD
I have been playing this deck rank 15-11 and I cannot tell you the amount of times I have had both secrets, someone triggers the spellbender, kills it and I end up with two of the things
this deck hasnt any card draw its big problem
It actually never bothered me!
Arcane intellect.
I went from rank 17, all the way back to rank 19, and then picked-up momentum to get to rank 16. Fun deck!
glad you liked it! People still don't expect it :)
no never, but could be a good addition :)
any replacements for toshley ?
I rly love him, but u can add harrison back instead yes. Emperor is rly OP, so you need him ^^
u could lose sylvanas if you wanted, but then u have to rely on the fireballs to control even more :p
Thanks for the input :)
Gonna give it a shot m8 )
This deck is cute. The idea of using spellbender to catch the enemy off guard is certainly different. I've been playing with this deck today, but unfortunately spellbender ended up just being a pretty bad card. It sat there doing nothing in so many matches of mine including pally, huntard, mid hunter, Mech Mage, Mech Sham, Zoolock, Handlock, Druid, Shaman and the list goes on. There was so many times where I wished spellbender was simply a counterspell or an iceblock or anything else. That spellbender lost me quite a few games, then I switched back to my typical mage deck and started winning again. I'm not saying this deck is bad, but I am saying it's a bit too much "tech" for me. So many situational things are happening with this deck and when luck isnt on your side it can easily all fall apart.
Thanks for the feedback, I am sad it didn't work as good as you would expect :(
this deck fits my play style a lot, I will do some videos in legend with it. Recorded only 2 games so far (mech mage and some kind of handlock) and post those here for the people interested in watching them!
Shadowstep? Leeroy?? WHAT YEAR IS IT!?!?
that's what I was thinking, made me laugh anyway!
i think like a lot of decks, on the surface this is fun, and that's all well and good, but loatheb would be a much better card than toshley, and after you start making all these kinds of changes, the deck just becomes salty control mage
I disagree, in the sense that I would just never change my MvP for loatheb in this list :). I checked salty control mage out again, and to me it is just not the same deck.
It is like saying handlock with malganis is not effective, better remplace for giants for more demons, and then it just becomes demonlock ;)
some cards are similar of course, but that's becomes we don't have enough choices to remplace some staple cards. Not because we mimic other decks :)
I have everything but Toshley. Is there a good replacement for him? Thanks!
