Hello,
If you want more deck using non convential cards, consider leaving me a follow :) Thanks!
This is the very weird deck (read uncommon) I used to get to legend early on EU server, march 2015.
It is not the only deck I used obviously, but it is the one I mainly used from rank 8 to legend itself.
Proof of legend:
This deck uses only 3 secrets, and one Kirin Tor, so it might look like a more midrangy/controle oriented deck, but the whole point is the secrets.
People are terrified of mirror entity, and will do their best to give you their zombie chow against it .
So, I decided to not run it, and have 2 duplicates for my own minions instead, as well as a very unexpected secret that was a real MvP for me: Spellbender (hence the deck name).
You will ruin any spare part strategy with it, catch a fireball or a sheep, catch a wrath. I like it better than counterspell in this deck, because a lot of spell do not "target minions" so don't prock the spellbender. The european meta is full of druids, so once they noticed it was not mirror entity, and not duplicate, the next assumption is counterspell.
So they will innervate, or coin if possible for the other classes, and that would be it. Once they notice the coin/innervate/non targeting spell didnt get counter, they will play normally.
It is so nice to get a +1 attack spare part on your new minion, that will help annoy the shit out of everyone :D
For the rest of the deck, I tried to build it against the meta: mind control tech works wonder vs paladin/mech mage, Kezan mystic is seen more and more often, and I can use it to take my secret back ^^. This barely happens but the idea was funny to me.
For the rest, the deck has a very strong late game, I did not include antonidas simply because I never felt I needed those extra fireballs, the deck wins easily without them.
I did include Toshley, for the very strong stats it has, and also because I value those extra spare parts, the more I play with them, the more I feel they can change a game.
MULLIGANS:
vs aggro:
You want to be able to hold them off early, so aim for mana wyrm, frostbolt, mad scientist and flamewaker.
I would also consider keeping 1 water elemental if you have one of the cheaper card I just mentionned, and the Kezan.
Vs aggro, just clear the board, they will run out of stuff, and you won't since your cards have a really high value.
vs midrange and control:
You don't really need mind control tech here, same goes for Kezan. You want to have a water elemental vs rogue/ warrior, but always keep mad scientist, mana wyrm and unstable portal if you can. You won't face a lot of early pressure vs control, so you can safely do the portal and hopefully adapt your strategy with what you get, that card is trully broken.
Again, control the board, you have strong minions, good removals. Do not waste the sheep on a sludge belcher unless you have to!
vs rogue, try to save your sludges for said moment to avoid the burst.
let me know if you have questions/ remarks. I unfortunately use no program to track my stats what so ever, so I don't have any numbers to give you. But I can say this: I have a full time job, do not play at my job, and manage to get legend in 7 days using this deck and my paladin most of the time, so it is possible, and not THAT time consuming :)
Added Emperor Broken to the deck for Harisson, I feel like I can't go for too many tech cards, and in a meta where face hunter rises, I rather take explosive than the bow away!
gl on ladder!
Well, for me Toshley is one of the MvP of the deck, and his effect his unique.
You can try running Loatheb instead, but it is imo not as good.
Could you elaborate on why exactly? I can see the major stat advantage, but it does seem a bit slow fora turn 6 play (tad slower than sylvanas imo). I am enjoying this deck tho. What could be done to encorporate a bit more tempo, otherwise it is Salty's control (in terms of game pace).
okay :)
so first of all, sylvanas is also in the deck, so it is not like i chose Toshley over her, both are here!
The spare parts are imo wonderful when u play high value minions, like this deck does.
U can send back your mct, healbot, damaged belcher, silenced sylvanas etc back in your hand if needed.
You can swap attack of either Toshley himself or of the water ele for better trade/surprise little burst, or just "heal" a damaged creature to avoid execute, if u are ready to lower its stats for it. It is sometimes worth it, especially on belcher.
+attack/def are the worst, but can always help in some situation
Freeze a minion can definitely be MvP for a huge tempo gain, that's not new either.
giving taunt to one of your minion is really nice combo with duplicate, or just to protect something.
Stealth is actually also one I am not always a fan of in this deck, but can be really nice in some situations.
So overall, except for +attack+def, I am always fairly happy to get those spare parts, but I don't want to invest (read sacrifice) loads of deck slots to put things that would give me spare parts: mechanical yeti would help my opponent too, the 2/1 gnome doesn't fit in the deck at all, I do not have enough mechs to play technician.
So Toshley brings me a big body, so loads of trades and board control which is my goal, doesn't make me sacrifice sylvanas since I run both, and will give me 2 spare parts. Since I do not run Antonidas, people assume it is in, especially since Strifecro used to run a Toshley/antonidas mage, me getting spare parts usually make the opponent go more Yolo, because he thinks I am about to get free fireballs.
edit: the path of the game might be close to Salty's mage, I must admit I did not try his deck at all, but according to this website, our lists are more than 30% different, so that's enough to differenciate the decks in my opinion ^^
replace- sky golem. it think perfect
Awesome deck love the upcoming control mages. Im currently playing on EU ladder and got to rank 9, up to this point ive face mainly aggro but now those control decks are coming and so i switched one duplicate with an ice block (to save me from those wombo combos from druid warrior rogue etc), also i have implemented one echo of medivh and changed toshley with Alexstrasza (since i dont have toshley) and its great fun! Played a handlock just now and got myself 4 sylvanas and 2 rags due to echo and duplicate :D Also i replaced kirin tor mage with one illuminater, the combo with ice block gives you so much heal and survival compared to the small tempo advantage you get from Kirin. Thanks alot!
lots of changes! but if you feel comfortable with them good, let me know how it works out! I am on EU as well :)
Full golden shaman added me after coining before rockbitter to check for counterspell
I love when this happens ^^
he stole your grill tho Kappa Keepo
Interesting deck, as a fellow deck builder I'll show my support +1 :)
Thank you very much :) appreciated!
Deck looks great going to give it a try. Will keep you updated. Only card I do not have is rag. best option to replace ? Sneeds?
Well Sneeds could work, as it brings a lot of value. Or Antonidas, eventho I didn't need it, the psychological pressure brought by the card alone is great.
Let me know how it works out :)
"the psychological pressure brought by the card"
I really like this expression, since HS is having more-and-more of these pressures (for example: Dr. Boom, Muster for Battle + Quartermaster, Druid combo, oil Rogue etc.) and this brings so much fun to the game (especially if you are playing a deck that does not contain the expected cards, as your deck).
