Holy Wraith: An Anti-Meta Priest Experiment

The Wraith

"It's a Wraith, man! A Ghost!!"

The death of Undertaker left a funny hole for Aggro Mech decks to slide in to the meta, like Mech Mage, and Zoo seems to still be alive. What's needed is a control deck that can push down scrubs and keep the board going. Along those lines, I humbly present the Holy Wraith priest.

LOL this deck sucks

True. It's weak in a lot of areas. It's particularly weak against Control Priest playing the meta deck, as it gets eaten alive by Cabal Shadow Priest, Injured Blademaster and friends. That said, it counters Zoo, Control Warrior, Aggro Mage and a few others reasonably well by pushing to the late game, and it holds its own against Ramp Druid.

What's The Big Idea?

This deck has two unfair mechanics: one is Mana Wraith plus Velen's Chosen  and Stonesplinter Trogg, to push your opponent into the late game, where Priest has a natural advantage, and cards like Mind Control, Piloted Sky Golem and Kel'Thuzad await. The other is cheap removal: Kezan Mystic and Spellbreaker frustrate the common Hunter, Mage and Druid mechanics and come with a nice body, Stampeding Kodo works to counter lingering Zoo animals.

Meanwhile, Zombie Chow is there because it's OP, Shadow Boxer and Baron Geddon replace the needy Wild Pyromancer, and we slot in  Thoughtsteal and Jeeves for the card draw (replacing Northshire Cleric). Vol'jin and Shadow Madness are there for midgame turnarounds.

Playstyle

You play this deck like Control Priest - take control of the board early, and keep it with your heals and AoE removal. You must play a little faster in the midgame (because you lack Northshire Cleric to keep board control later on, but you have friends to help.

Try to get Mana Wraith buffed with Velen's Chosen with a Stonesplinter Trogg or (better) a Zombie Chow out. This gives you tremendous early-to-mid game leverage that you can maintain with your Lesser Heal. Try hard to push him to the late game behind the mana curve using Mana Wraith..

Use Sludge Belcher as usual, to maintain midgame control. Play Vol'jin to turn around a lost board.

Weird deck, and there are better options but I like it. I feel like there's some tweaking to be done, but I've managed quite a few surprise wins with this deck. Try it out!
